Jeez - trying not to get involved in royal wedding chaos - but this is such a no brainer! Surely her Mum should give her away? Or are they all racist misogynistic traditionalists?

OP posts:
SinisterBumFacedCat · 18/05/2018 17:03

Also I have the same birthday as Charles so I'm virtually a Royal already. And I live not far from Windsor! Expect to see a baffled middle woman in a Dorothy Perkins dress wobbling o high heels waiting I the wings at Windsor.

The80sweregreat · 18/05/2018 17:04

Sin - see you on the tv. Wear a mumsnet scarf

Passportto · 18/05/2018 17:07

I have assumed mum prefers not to do it. Not being used to pomp and ceremony and having the eyes of the world on her would scare the hell out of most people, I'd have thought.

I don't for a minute think anyone has insisted that Charles does it ahead of her mother.

SandyY2K · 18/05/2018 17:09

I fully agree with you OP. I find it rather ridiculous to have your future FIL give you away.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 18/05/2018 17:09

I'll do the mumsnet haircut too, and wear a mooncup, a la Beatrice.

The80sweregreat · 18/05/2018 17:24

Sinister - we will have to just imagine the mooncup ..
at least the weather is meant to be nice.

Yorkshirebetty · 18/05/2018 17:26

Maybe her mum is too shy or anxious, as someone above said. I think it's a pity that she has hardly any family there. That's what Harry meant when he said the Windsors were the family she never had.

Queenoftheblitz · 18/05/2018 17:30

Yes, get the big crown on Charlie quick before somebody mentions poor poor Diana and everybody hates him again.

Hee hee thanks for making me laugh! Grin

Xenia · 18/05/2018 17:31

It looks like she is walking most of the way herself and good for her for that - feminist that she is. Then Prince C just joins her for the last little bit.

TheDevilMadeMeDoIt · 18/05/2018 17:34

Because of the 'will he/won't he' around MM's father, this has had to be sorted very late. Her mum might have done it if she's had a couple of months to prepare and rehearse, but at the 11th hour you need someone who's used to it.

Queenoftheblitz · 18/05/2018 17:35

The Sun headline (but they wouldn't dare): CHARLES TAKES MEGHAN UP THE AISLE.

Topseyt · 18/05/2018 17:36

Who cares about tradition!?

She doesn't have a wide choice from her own family. I think it is a lovely gesture from Prince Charles, and absolutely appropriate if he, Meghan and Harry are happy with it. Good decision. She knows Prince Charles won't let her down. The same can't be said of her own family, such as they are.

They made a decision that's right for them. Who are we to question that considering we have no idea how they came to this decision?

PerfectlyDone · 18/05/2018 17:59

Queen Grin

WeWere0nABreak · 18/05/2018 18:04

Didn't the sun use that when Elton John got married??

WeWere0nABreak · 18/05/2018 18:05

Yep! Grin

TonTonMacoute · 18/05/2018 18:21

OP seems to assume that MM and her mum have been forced into this decision, but I’m sure that everyone has reached this solution together.

I’m beginning to feel a bit sorry for Meghan, her mum seems to be the only member of her family who she can rely on and who isn’t a bit of a liability!

speakout · 18/05/2018 18:22

Charles is not giving her away.

derxa · 18/05/2018 18:30

The Elton headline was very funny and I'm sure he would have thought so too. I remember him reminiscing about his time as chairman of Watford FC and saying the crowd would sing 'Elton takes it up the arse'
He told the story with much amusement.

user1471426142 · 18/05/2018 18:55

I just feel very sorry for her. She and her extended family have been under a huge amount of scrutiny. Makes you realise how well the Middleton’s did really. There were all the bitchy articles about Carole but really they haven’t stepped a foot wrong. I wonder if they had a lot more press/support from the Palace. I guess they had a lot more time to be prepared for what was to come.

Usernameunknown2 · 19/05/2018 06:44

Agreeing with DarthArts. Plus you can bet your arse if there was a hint of racism or misogyny the family members who are media hungry and pita will be all over it.

Luisa27 · 19/05/2018 06:55

Meghan released a statement yesterday afternoon saying she personally asked Charles to walk her down the aisle - and Charles was delighted to accept Smile

Snowphic · 19/05/2018 07:29

For those saying that her mother could be shy, are you saying that a mother can't put her shyness aside for her daughter?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 19/05/2018 08:13

I would imagine it maybe overwhelming for her mother

The worlds press, the pomp and ceremony, the stress and intrusion her family have been under and any little thing she may have done wrong certain areas of the press would sneer and patronised

This isn’t an ordinary wedding it’s a wedding that every little detail will be scrutinised
