How many do you have and what are the age gaps like? Would you want more and why?

I wanted 3.

I have 2.

I wouldn't have another if you paid me Grin

BPG20 · 17/05/2018 19:52

I always wanted 3 and DH wanted 4. Worked out great in theory as he already had a DS.

We struggled with infertility and adopted our DS a few months back. He is an absolute dream but we won't be having any more.

We got to spend half of DSS's childhood focussed entirely on him which was lovely and he is such a pleasant and lovely boy. We now have a DS who has the best of both worlds - our individual attention 50% of the time and having the best big brother ever around for the other 50%.

I have 4 - aged 7, 9, 11 and 13. It is much easier now they are older but when they were young it was bloody hard graft. 4 under 6 is no picnic 😂

I wanted to have four and luckily I have them. Often though - when looking at foreign holidays, cars and days out mostly - I wish I had only had two. Four can be very very pricey - uniforms and shoes nearly make me cry every year!

BlueJava · 17/05/2018 19:54

Was going to have 1, but has twins - both boys.

Maryann1975 · 17/05/2018 19:54

Yanbu in wanting four dc, but maybe decide if you want 4 when you have had 3 for a year or so, that’s how most people decide. I have three and there is not a chance I’d have another! It’s exhausting and it’s so different to having 2, which in comparison was easy! Trying to fit in homework, activities, social lives, 1-2-1 time with each of them and all the house work, cooking etc and a bit of a life for myself, I’ve found it doesn’t fit easily into a 24 hour day.

MadameJosephine · 17/05/2018 19:55

I always said I wanted 4 children until I had my first. I have 2 now, a 21 yo DS and a 5 yo DD and I’m happy with that (just as well really I’m far too old for any more)

HellenaHandbasket · 17/05/2018 19:56

We have 3. Nearly 8, 6 and 6 months.

21 months between #1 and #2, then 5.5 yrs to surprise #3.

We initially wanted 4. Then had 1 and thought 2 max. Then had #2 and that was that.

Then bonus baby 3 appeared despite the coil, and we couldn't be happier with him. Age gap makes things easier. I think we are done, but who knows.

Yogagirl123 · 17/05/2018 19:56

Wanted two, had two very close together. Hard work, but worth it. Two are expensive enough!

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 17/05/2018 19:56

I wanted 4. But i have one. It's fine and I am so lucky to have her.

A lot of people ruin their lives and their relationships over the quest for more children.

If it doesn't happen- it doesn't happen. What you want isn't always what you get - and that's just fine too.

Newmum102 · 17/05/2018 19:57

Ive always said no kids or 2. I grew up in a family of 10, it was mayhem. My poor mother was mental. I couldn’t stop at 1 though personally, I’d want my LO to have a sibling.

SensoryOverlord · 17/05/2018 19:58

We have 3 ds's, 10, 8 and 1.

If I could guarantee another boy, I'd like a fourth...we have a four bed house and it would mean a bedroom each for ds1 and 2 and then ds3 and 4 could share the biggest room.

But Sod's law it would be a girl...I just know it would...and that would be a nightmare. We'd either have to find a 5 bed house (which are rare even if we could afford it) or ds1 and 2 would have to share which would be unfair now they're used to having their own rooms.

So I think 3 it will have to stay.

Bohemond · 17/05/2018 19:58

Have as many as you like - as long as you don’t expect me to pay for them

formerbabe · 17/05/2018 19:59

How do parents of large families cope with exam stress, friendship issues, bullying, relationship issues, health issues?
I have one, and quite frankly I wouldn't have been able to deal with all that x 4. Not to mention the cost, the drudgery of extra washing, cooking, cleaning etc

I wonder the same thing too. I have 2 DC. I have done 4 loads of washing today Confused! I have been doing housework pretty much all day. I've listened to two lots of reading books. Got two lots of school bags ready for the morning. I've got to make dc2s packed lunch this evening. I've got activities plus an appointment for dc2 after school tomorrow. I'm shattered!

I hate it when an OP asks people to provide personal info whilst ignoring questions about themselves, no matter how innocent the topic.

morekidsthanhands · 17/05/2018 20:00

I'm thinking about this at the minute..
I have an 18 month old and when he was about 6 months old we began an application to foster our niece and nephew who are 2 and 4.
In an ideal world I would have liked 2 children and although I now have 3 I can't help but think about having another...

SaucyJack · 17/05/2018 20:00

I reckon 2 is the ideal number of kids.

I have 3.

Elementtree · 17/05/2018 20:00

That's a shame you say that Bohemond, I've just penned a begging letter Sad

ChiefSpoon · 17/05/2018 20:01

I have one, DS 7 months.

Money and health no issue - 5 or 6?

In reality probably only going to have 1 and so far having him has been the easiest most natural thing ever, and according to my family he's a high needs baby 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Anxiouschild · 17/05/2018 20:02

2 girls with a 2 year gap.

Totally and utterly done! Always wanted 2 and now they are here, I know it's the perfect number for me. We just couldn't cope with any more as we already feel rather stretched emotionally and financially, and very time-poor.

flapjackfairy · 17/05/2018 20:02

Mine are 28, 26, 18, 12 and 4 .

Ragwort · 17/05/2018 20:03

I have one - I find that emotionally challenging enough and can't imagine wanting to have had more than one or go through more than one childbirth or pregnancy. Far too late for me anyway as I have now gone through the menopause (thank goodness).

The recent thread about people from families of more than three siblings made very interesting reading ...............

hoopyloop2016 · 17/05/2018 20:03

We have 4 dds
9 years.3 years 4 years another under 1. (My eldest from a previous relationship)..

oblada · 17/05/2018 20:04

I have 3, 7-4-1 - love it. I am not sure about another one, DH wants a 4th but the practical side worries me (the car, the house...)... And I'd like to see the back of nursery fees at some point...

justanotheruser18 · 17/05/2018 20:04

Wanted 4. Had 1. Done.

DramaAlpaca · 17/05/2018 20:04

I have 3. Age gaps 16 months then 2 and a half years. I've enjoyed having three but a fourth would probably have broken me.
