AIBU to think that anyone who hears Laurel is playing a practical joke? It's definitely yanny!

I heard Yanny this morning and couldn’t understand how DH could hear Laurel at all. Then this evening I heard Laurel! I couldn’t hear yanny at all. It’s very strange :)

MyDobermanIsABeaut1 · 16/05/2018 23:22

DH hears laurel, I hear yanny. Both of us are English.

bumbleymummy · 16/05/2018 23:23

And actually, without knowing what word I was supposed to hear (DH just played it and asked what I thought it was) I thought it said yearly!

Dixiestampsagain · 16/05/2018 23:23

I can hear whichever I choose to...really!

VerbenaBorensis · 16/05/2018 23:24

Yanny all day long! Grin

Dixiestampsagain · 16/05/2018 23:36

I started off as Yanny, but I put my thumb over the speaker on my phone and everything changed!!

Ginnotginger · 16/05/2018 23:44

Yanny and only Yanny. Dh and dd both hear Laurel. Even listening on speakers all at the same time I heard Yanny whilst they heard Laurel

Tried again now I am hearing Laurel and dd is hearing Yanny.

Now I am hearing Yanny for the first few times then it morphs into Laurel. Dd is stuck hearing Yanny. This is weird, seriously weird.

LadyMisty · 16/05/2018 23:53

Dixie I'm the same.
At first it was only yanny, then it was Laurel, then back to yanny again.
Now I can hear both!!!

Btw, I found that when I was hearing yanny, if I put my phone speaker in my mouth, I could hear Laurel.

But now I can hear what I choose to hear.
I've killed my phone battery playing it over and over again today though BlushConfused

LadyMisty · 16/05/2018 23:55

Gammel those cat things drive me insane! If any of my neighbours bought one I'd move house.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 16/05/2018 23:57

I hear Yammy. I cannot hear anything else however much I listen. I'm late 40s if that makes any difference. However, DH (early 50s) and kids (12 and 14) only hear Yammy too. DD and DH listened to it without knowing the possibilities. None of us can work out how anyone can hear Laurel.

HateSummer · 17/05/2018 01:59

I tested my kids without telling them the words Yanny or laurel.
Dd(10) heard Yanny
Ds(6) heard Laurel
Dd(4) heard Laurel.

We’re all confused!

Eminybob · 17/05/2018 02:02

Dh and I could both here yanny, then he found a recording where it had been slowed down and then sped up. We could both hear laurel when it was slow, then it morphed into yanny as it got faster.
Then he played the original recording and I said, and there you go, back to yanny, and he said, no it’s laurel now!
Such a weird thing, they are such completely different words.

steff13 · 17/05/2018 02:34

I hear laurel. And the guy was actually saying laurel.

WilyMinx · 17/05/2018 02:44

Yanny on my laptop. Could sort of hear Laurel if I focused on the lowest pitch. On my mobile, it's just Laurel.

Jux · 17/05/2018 03:27

I'm old and half deaf and hear Yanny.

justanothernamechange94 · 17/05/2018 03:36

I hear Yanny when my volume is half way and Laurel when I turn it right up.

Freaked me out Grin

Fintress · 17/05/2018 06:10

Debate in this house too. Me - Yanny and grey trainers, husband - Laurel and pink trainers. We listened to a different clip that gave you the sound waves for Yanny vs Laurel at the end. Yanny was much higher pitched than Laurel which was quite low. He can't fathom why I hear Yanny and I'm like how the hell can you hear Laurel.

Eminybob · 17/05/2018 07:12

I just asked 3 year old ds and he said Jerry!

Fletchasaurus · 17/05/2018 07:14

Tried it again this morning, definitely Laurel and not a hint of Yanny!

memaymamo · 17/05/2018 08:19

I could only hear Yanny before. Today I put earphones in and heard pure Laurel. Took them out and can only hear Laurel. My mind is blown.

Nelly1727 · 17/05/2018 08:24

Laurel

MarshaBradyo · 17/05/2018 08:26

Yanny

It’s so weird when you listen with someone else and they hear the opposite

WhingyNinja · 17/05/2018 08:28

I can only hear Yanny in a nasal American accent, I can't work out how that can be close to Laurel!? So funny Grin

Snewname · 17/05/2018 08:29

Still no difference this morning. There is a conspiracy. Everyone in the world is out to trick me. It's the king wearing no clothes thing.

BuntyII · 17/05/2018 08:35

I can't pick Yanny up at all after 2 days
