to find flip-flops at work vulgar?

With the recent bout of hot weather we have been enjoying, there has been a proliferation of my colleagues who have deemed it acceptable to wear revealing sandals and flip-flops to work. I work in a corporate environment and find this overt display of naked foot highly unprofessional, not to mention vulgar. Quite frankly seeing Tony's hairy toes makes me want to heave. AIBU to find this outrageous?

are there ANY employers who will tolerate sandals/flip-flops thereby ignoring the basics of Health & Safety in the workplace

I'm curious to know what realistically might happen to all those people's feet while they sit at their desks? In my 30 years of working I have yet to see anyone with a desk job experience any kind of foot injury caused by lack of closed toed shoes.

My employer allows sandals. I live in Florida. The only workplaces where sandals would be forbidden on health and safety reasons would be construction sites or places where people have to do a lot of heavy lifting.

If you want to talk about health and safety and footwear, I think spiked stilettos might be a lot more dangerous than sandals.

What SenecaFalls said.
I'm about 500 miles south of Miami Grin

Is the H&S stuff recent? I haven't worked for 6 years so maybe that's why it sounds odd to me.

PaulDacreRimsGeese · 16/05/2018 17:38

I've had a couple of employers within the past 6 years who wouldn't have and didn't give a shit. That's office based though, obviously if I were working in a foundary it'd be a bit of a worry.

I think "vulgar" is a bit much Grin

Honestly I can't imagine you're staring at people's feet all that much.

ppeatfruit · 17/05/2018 09:33

I'd make it unlawful for those dreadful baggy cargo shorts men seem to wear all summer… Me to Grin They don't know what they look like do they?

SenecaFalls · 17/05/2018 13:20

Cargo shorts, yes. My husband is retired so he's not wearing them to an office, but he has become enamored of a look I call "double cargo": cargo shorts and what is known around these parts as a fishing shirt, which has all manner of pockets to hold whatever it is you need to hold when you go fishing. Not a good look. He doesn't wear flip-flops though. Boat shoes all the way.

Grin vulgar?! Who says vulgar these days?! Yabu for thinking you’re in Downton Abbey.

MrsDilber · 17/05/2018 14:27

Sandals are ok. Flip flops are not.

Strangely enough, I wouldn't want to see a man in a suit and sandals though?
