People annoyed about my wedding

Me and my future DH have decided to get married this Summer but this has caused a few problems after telling our parents. We want a small registry office wedding with 5 friends each and no parents or family. My parents love the idea and are very supportive but future DH parents seem to think we should be having a a huge chavtastic wedding involving families and expensive hotels. Does anyone think we are being unreasonable? I've always seen expensive weddings as being very tacky and would rather not bother than have an expensive or pretentious day.

I had a registry office wedding. Best decision ever. I wouldn't have invited my parents tbh but then there wouldn't have been any guests at all! Confused
I say do what makes you happy and hope that they understand in time that it's not about them and you weren't asking their opinion.

DH & I had the smallest wedding possible - just me & him. It we went abroad & came back married. Parents knew what we were doing & were absolutely fine with it. I'm not sure if we'd invited 10 friends & not them they would of been though

I would be thrilled to be invited to a tiny wedding of one of my children and devastated if excluded. I hate the big wedding stuff, love small ones

I hope someone lets Harry and Meghan know how chavtastic they must be for inviting more than 10 guests and their parents! Grin
