To ban this man from my cafe?

Have NC as I've spoken to people in RL about this.

I promise I'm not the poo troll.

There's a man that's been coming in to my cafe every morning for a few weeks now.

He orders a coffee and sits doing work on his laptop at 8.30 when I open up.

Every FUCKING DAY he does a massive shit in the toilet and leaves a mess everywhere. It's utterly disgusting and I obviously have to deal with it. I'm normally there on my own as I don't get many customers at that time of day, but today a lovely woman was in with her baby and went to use the toilet after him.

She obviously didn't use it and I had to profusely apologise. He was the only other person there so it was obviously him. He could hear me talking to her and just sat there, not an ounce of embarrassment. I'm actually getting really anxious about this now and I don't know what to do. It's horrible. It's a horrible way to have to start my day, every day.

I want to ban him but I'm too "nice" and REALLY don't want the confrontation. It feels so awkward.

Help! I don't know what to do.

How do you propose he cleans the loo without a brush?

FASH84 · 10/05/2018 22:10

Shamelessly place marking, I need to know if he comes back tomorrow!

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 10/05/2018 22:14

I have to be honest, there's no way I'd reach into a loo with tissue to wipe marks away. I'd either bleach it to death at home which seems to go the trick and or use a toilet brush.

What do people do without brushes? Use rubber gloves and a cloth? I'd have to bin the cloth after immediately

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 10/05/2018 22:15

*do

AlexaAmbidextra · 11/05/2018 00:44

I simply cannot believe all these tortuous suggestions for dealing with this. Simply tell him that you no longer want his custom due to his anti-social behaviour.

Southernstars · 11/05/2018 01:46

Agree with the pp, it is anti social behaviour and he knows what he is doing. He is not going to clean up after himself if you put up posters or get a toilet brush, he doesn’t care. You need to tell him he is banned and why.

What is it with these filthy men who leave toilets in disgusting conditions, just the shitty stench and state of the toilet would make the next customer retch and think you don’t clean the toilet. You own a business and you should be strong enough to tell him not to come back otherwise your other customers will go elsewhere.

mathanxiety · 11/05/2018 03:42

It's not just the customers he is leaving the mess for.

The OP runs the cafe and this is the toilet she uses too. If she is obliged to clean a disgusting toilet after customers make it a toxic hazard she is putting her own hygiene precautions for food handling at risk.

It's one thing for a cafe owner to use a relatively clean loo herself and wash her hands thoroughly afterwards, spray the door handle and lock frequently throughout the day with lysol, etc., but having to clean a toilet befouled as described introduces a new level of risk for food handling. Fecal matter can get onto sleeves or other clothing and it can be spread around the bathroom and picked up unsuspectingly.

Lofari · 11/05/2018 04:57

Serve him his coffee and place a brand new loo brush down next to it and raise an eyebrow. Then walk away......

seven201 · 11/05/2018 08:30

Has he been in yet today? 💩

livefornaps · 11/05/2018 08:56

Can't you clean the brush as you flush the loo?

I need to know what happened this morning!!

PasstheStarmix · 11/05/2018 09:06

Op has this man come back in and what did you decide to do?

PasstheStarmix · 11/05/2018 09:09

Also Ikea have black toilet brushes with base and they’re really compact and discreet priced only about 50p. Well worth it and whole thing can be changed regularly.

PasstheStarmix · 11/05/2018 09:12

80*

userinterface34 · 11/05/2018 09:21

I’d give him one chance after there being a loo brush. After that I’d have to tell him! Grim.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 11/05/2018 09:26

Unfortunately, some individuals derive pleasure from females cleaning their defacation

THIS ^

I wouldn't have believed it, but there was a previous thread about a visiting workman leaving piss all over a woman's lavatory etc, and another poster gave a link to an internet page - it is a THING! People (men ) get a power kick from it. They think it's hilarious that someone else has to clean up their filth.

I would ban him. For the sake of what he spends on coffee - just refuse to serve him and tell him why. Unfortunately you will have to be prepared for an argument. Get a photo of him - and the post-poo lavatory - and tell him that he causes any trouble you will contact the police and let them deal with any threats.

Normally, I wouldn't suggest calling the police, but you are alone and vulnerable, and he is obviously a vile bully. Don't take any unnecessary risks.

Or you could pop your head round the loo door after his "visit" and tell him loudly to get his filthy arse back in there and clean up after himself - and never to leave the place like that again or you won't serve him. (If you wanted to escalate matters, you cold get some dog poo bags and rubber gloves, scrape his shit into a bag and dump it on his keyboard with an instruction to clean up after himself - but he could well get very aggressive, so have a friend (preferable male) with you if you do anything like this.)

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 11/05/2018 09:31

Jesus Hmm. There are some sick fuckers around... And they actually go on chat forums and snigger about it??

ShaniaTwainAndTheRubyKitKat · 11/05/2018 09:38

Ban the sick fucker. Hope he got the message yesterday and has avoided darkening your lav door today op Grin

CoraPirbright · 11/05/2018 09:40

Has he been back this morning OP? What happened?

CraftyNestUK · 11/05/2018 09:49

Please let us know how it went today. I’m thinking a few days of the “out of order” sign may be enough for him to move on to the next place to leave his daily dump.

TeisanLap · 11/05/2018 09:51

Wasn't there a very similar thread not to long ago. Coffee, massive shit ..yep rings a bell

Yes there was. I recognised it immediately.

VirginHoliday · 11/05/2018 10:47

I just came to echo what PPs have said. Provide a loo brush and a simple sign asking patrons to clean up after themselves. If he doesn't, speak to him. If he persists then politely explain that it is losing you business as customers are being put off by the terrible smell and mess. You can easily say that you have received complaints. It would be perfectly reasonable to ban him then.

Also, there is no way in hell I would ever consider putting my hand in a public toilet bowl to wipe it. Nope. No fucking way. I'd flush. Maybe flush again. After two attempts I'm afraid I would just have to leave it as waiting for the cistern to refill any more times would be ridiculous. I would however be okay with using a toilet brush. It's for wiping shit. It's never going to be a hygienic thing but it will do the job. Ikea sell them for 39p so they are cheap enough to replace once used enough times. (Just make sure you put them in the plastics for recycling).

In this world of people who hover and piss on the seat, do you really think they would put their hand inside a toilet bowl?

Rudgie47 · 11/05/2018 10:57

I think you need to provide a loo brush and a bottle of cheap bleach next to it. If you are not providing the basics then I'm not surprised hes not cleaning it. You can get bleach for less than 50p at places like Home Bargain, Aldi and Lidl.
Its a fact of life that people need to do a poo,but he does need to tidy up after himself.

Bummymum · 11/05/2018 11:15

No fucking WAY in hell would I put my hand in a public toilet!!!!!!!

I don't have a loo brush at I'm happy to don long gloves specifically for the toilet or use a disposable bleach pad on a long stick like the one up thread.

But in a public toilet you a being very unreasonable not having a brush.

Obviously he's a foul sod too.

Bummymum · 11/05/2018 11:16

Loo brush at home.

Bummymum · 11/05/2018 11:17

Really get the clorox sticks. The end pops off in to the bin when the click the button. I try not to use them too often as I try not to use bleach much anyway and hate waste but sometimes needs must!
