To ban this man from my cafe?

Have NC as I've spoken to people in RL about this.

I promise I'm not the poo troll.

There's a man that's been coming in to my cafe every morning for a few weeks now.

He orders a coffee and sits doing work on his laptop at 8.30 when I open up.

Every FUCKING DAY he does a massive shit in the toilet and leaves a mess everywhere. It's utterly disgusting and I obviously have to deal with it. I'm normally there on my own as I don't get many customers at that time of day, but today a lovely woman was in with her baby and went to use the toilet after him.

She obviously didn't use it and I had to profusely apologise. He was the only other person there so it was obviously him. He could hear me talking to her and just sat there, not an ounce of embarrassment. I'm actually getting really anxious about this now and I don't know what to do. It's horrible. It's a horrible way to have to start my day, every day.

I want to ban him but I'm too "nice" and REALLY don't want the confrontation. It feels so awkward.

Help! I don't know what to do.

Well done op, at least you'll have a poo cleaning free day today Smile

Aprilmightbemynewname · 10/05/2018 12:42

No sure if it's been suggested but if you need to start a new thread can it be called poogate?

SickofThomasTheTank · 10/05/2018 12:44

Keep going with the out of order sign. After a couple of days, he'll get the message

RomeoBunny · 10/05/2018 12:45

Skid marking this thread shamelessly.

OP change the wifi password and give it to everyone but him. Also agree with the key pad lock for the toilet!

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 10/05/2018 12:47

Loads of people refuse to have brushes in their home toilets - how do they manage?

I use disposable gloves and a dish scourer. Do you provide those?

wormery · 10/05/2018 12:50

Good for you, it's a start and it means you are not bog cleaning all morning, let's hope he gets the message and poops before he leaves the house.

annebancroftbag · 10/05/2018 12:52

Jamie Vardy where do you store your dish scourer?

A loo brush is the way forward. I don’t get the fear of them. Even if you got a new one every week it’d be better than dealing with this!

PurpleStarInCashmereSky · 10/05/2018 13:14

Good. Try it for a few days and see how long it takes him to find a new cafe.

AuntFidgetWonkhamStrongNajork · 10/05/2018 13:16

Does he always sit at the same table? Take a photo of the manky loo next time, print it, laminate it - et voila! He has his own personalised place mat.

PasstheStarmix · 10/05/2018 13:19

Brushes are awful but very necessary I believe in public toilets.

PasstheStarmix · 10/05/2018 13:20

I find they are good for home too if changed regularly and used appropriately.

amusedbush · 10/05/2018 13:30

Didn't stay as long as usual.

Yeah, because he was touching cloth Grin

He must have taken his dirty business elsewhere. Bleugh.

M00nUnit · 10/05/2018 13:31

Toilet brushes are awful, I haven't had one in years. These are the way forward: Duck Fresh

He's out of order but here's no way I'd put my hand down a cafe loo to clean it! I was once at someone's house and they didn't have a loo brush so yes then I reluctantly put my arm in the loo to clean it. You're going to have to get a loo brush - get one with dark bristles so the poo is less obvious! I hate it when people don't rinse the loo brush through the flush or bang out the poo particles off. Yuk!

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 10/05/2018 13:45

A dish scourer?! Grin. Why would storing a shitty dish scourer be any more congenial than storing a toilet brush?

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 10/05/2018 13:49

I throw the dish scourer away afterwards, obvs. Due to lack of dish washer, I have no shortage of manky dish scourers on their last legs.

Crunchymum · 10/05/2018 13:50

You don't get many people in a cafe at 8.30am? Shock...

KerplunkChampion · 10/05/2018 13:52

I think you're right with the Out of Order sign. Most people don't come to your cafe in the morning mostly to use the toilet, they're on their way somewhere else. Hope it doesn't take too long to put him off. Or you could pointedly put the sign up whenever you see him come in.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 10/05/2018 14:01

Loads of people refuse to have brushes in their home toilets - how do they manage?

Well, I use bleach and leave it to sit, usually clears anything or I use the bleach first then the duck scrubbing thing. I wouldn’t put my hand in the toilet ata cafe, I’d then be touching taps etc and I couldn’t put other people at risk like that. Whereas when you wipe your arse after a shit you only use one hand and one hand can then be used for the tap.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 10/05/2018 14:02

If you aren’t actually going to provide something to clean with then can you really expect it to be cleaned? Why not be honest or ban him, what you’re doing just seems a bit petty really.

expatinscotland · 10/05/2018 14:07

You are running a business. This man may be costing your customers. Grow a spine and ban him. You need to stop being so wet.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 10/05/2018 14:11

How many hands does it take to clean the toilet, Quack??

OrangeJam · 10/05/2018 14:14

@Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar that's what I was wondering.

Half of you are telling me to get a grip and tell him he's banned and the other half are saying it's my fault for not providing a brush!

I honestly don't know what to think Gin

blinkowl · 10/05/2018 14:24

OrangeJam it's male entitlement.

IME some men who've never been asked to clean a toilet, don't even think about how toilets get clean. It's not their job, as far as they are concerned and they just don't care enough to even think about it - he may not even realise other people don't do this.

Not saying it's right - it's not. But prepare for him to be surprised if you mention it and incredulous that anyone has a problem with it.

I'd stick to putting "out of order" on the door for a while and switching the wi-fi off when you're not using it and seeing if that works.
