To ban this man from my cafe?

Have NC as I've spoken to people in RL about this.

I promise I'm not the poo troll.

There's a man that's been coming in to my cafe every morning for a few weeks now.

He orders a coffee and sits doing work on his laptop at 8.30 when I open up.

Every FUCKING DAY he does a massive shit in the toilet and leaves a mess everywhere. It's utterly disgusting and I obviously have to deal with it. I'm normally there on my own as I don't get many customers at that time of day, but today a lovely woman was in with her baby and went to use the toilet after him.

She obviously didn't use it and I had to profusely apologise. He was the only other person there so it was obviously him. He could hear me talking to her and just sat there, not an ounce of embarrassment. I'm actually getting really anxious about this now and I don't know what to do. It's horrible. It's a horrible way to have to start my day, every day.

I want to ban him but I'm too "nice" and REALLY don't want the confrontation. It feels so awkward.

Help! I don't know what to do.

Ban him or keep putting the out of order sign up until he stops coming back.

expatinscotland · 10/05/2018 14:25

Think for yourself! He's foul, you don't want to clean up after him, he's not nice, he drinks one coffee and hangs round for hours, he leaves the toilet a state. Why put up with him? It's a private business. You can ban him and never have to think about him again. Job done.

okdok · 10/05/2018 14:25

Just put in a brush and cleaning liquid and a polite but clear sign, and give him 2 days. ATM, yabu.

category12 · 10/05/2018 14:59

What expat said.

category12 · 10/05/2018 15:00

You can't put out cleaning liquid in a cafe: chemicals need to be securely stored.

dementedpixie · 10/05/2018 15:03

looblade.com what about one of these? Wouldn't get clogged up like a conventional brush

Buxtonstill · 10/05/2018 15:54

Put the out of order sign up, until he gets the message and goes to another cafe.

PasstheStarmix · 10/05/2018 15:55

To be honest op this dirty individual sounds like he isn’t going to use the brush even if you did provide one. Out of order sign the way to go I think

PasstheStarmix · 10/05/2018 15:55

He can do this morning ‘log’ elsewhere 🤮

PasstheStarmix · 10/05/2018 15:56

his* rather

BossyPaws · 10/05/2018 16:02

I hate these men that seem to think they need to shit somewhere in order to mark a territory.

Lemonlady22 · 10/05/2018 16:03

some people are just dirty and lazy

PasstheStarmix · 10/05/2018 16:03

Exactly bossy and this man seems to have OP’s cafe marked as his prime morning dumping spot and part of his routine; how awful.

Huffinpuff · 10/05/2018 16:09

Aren't most cafes required by local authorities to provide toilet facilities? So the out of order sign would be a no-go.

I understand this varies from council to council, but in Notts for example,
"Where there are less than 25 seats and the physical dimensions are such that it would be impossible to house separate toilets for each sex, the minimum standard will be one unisex W.C, plus wash hand basin, to be accessible to all customers including disabled persons."

bellabasset · 10/05/2018 16:13

Lock the door and put up a Staff Only sign, and let customers use it at your discretion.

If he asks be truthful and say as you are preparing food having to break off to clean a toilet that a customer is so discourteous as to leave unusable isn't something you are prepared to continue doing.

wizzywig · 10/05/2018 16:15

Ive actually gotten excited that shitting man is back.

SamHeughansLeftEyebrow · 10/05/2018 16:17

No way on earth would I put my hand down a café loo and start cleaning it. I have no way of knowing, as a customer, when it was last cleaned etc. Even with a wad of paper (which risks blocking and flooding!). The thought of it makes me feel quite nauseous!

You do not need to be bleaching a loo brush daily, but you do need to provide one if you want people to clean their skids. Even if you choose not to have one at home.

Huffinpuff · 10/05/2018 16:20

Just looked it up. According to section 20 of the 1976 Local Government MIscellaneous Provisions Act, toilets have to be provided if food and drink is being sold for consumption on the premises.

Mof3K · 10/05/2018 16:22

This is an old thread again? I've read this before?

Jux · 10/05/2018 16:38

Out of order sign when he comes in, and turn it over as he leaves.

Luisa27 · 10/05/2018 16:39

😂😂😂

@OrangeJam - I definitely think the ‘out of order’ sign is the way forward.....please don’t put a toilet brush in there 🤢 - if I went in a cafe loo and there was a shitty loo brush in there, I’d never go back.
Let’s face it - he has one coffee, shits, and leave - you don’t want his ‘custom’ - not to mention the unpleasant environment he leaves for other customers- it’s just utterly repulsive

PasstheStarmix · 10/05/2018 16:40

In regards to the section 20 rule thing posted by pp. Would this apply if toilets just went out of order that morning and emergency plumber ‘on his way?’ and you recommend a cafe near yours with workable toilets?

Lethaldrizzle · 10/05/2018 16:43

Put a sign up

To ban this man from my cafe?
FluffyWhiteTowels · 10/05/2018 16:48

I would have been gagging and retching having to clean that. I feel for you OP. Why are some people so ignorant

OrangeJam · 10/05/2018 16:56

Yep I legally have to have toilet facilities, however, if they happen to be "broken" I can recommend public facilities nearby.

My cafe is spotless, I hate to think of people going in there after him or picking up a shitty loo brush but if that's what most people expect I should have then i can accept that.
