To wish the EU would throw us a bone so we can cancel Brexit

They don't want us to leave. We don't want to leave. So what could Macron'n'Merkel offer us so we can say "go on, we'll stay together for the sake of the kids".

OP posts:

Couldn’t agree with you more @TomRavenscroft

And I love the wasp analogy @Cider - poor thing

Smeddum · 08/05/2018 10:24

Why is it our fault that you can't live peaceably? You are putting blame in the wrong place

So you’re absolving the British government of any blame for the Troubles? Good grief I’ve heard it all now!

@Somerville explained it far more articulately than I.

As an aside, the Better Together campaign before the Indy ref made a huge deal of voting no meant guaranteed continued membership of the EU. Which is in large part why the Indy ref came back with a no vote. (Not the only reason obviously but a huge part of it nonetheless). Wonder if they knew then what we know now if it would have been the same result?

I wonder the same with brexit, if people knew there would be no deal, no benefits, and no hard border, would they still have voted to leave?

Luisa27 · 08/05/2018 10:27

@Smeddum - I doubt this very much. The whole situation is unbelievably grim.

whiskybysidedoor · 08/05/2018 10:30

What is terrifying is the complete media block out of what is currently going on in the EU (apart from brexit of course).

It’s as if we are being guided to having a particular opinion. Not that this is supported by any other mediums such as a forum for mums of course Wink

Luisa27 · 08/05/2018 10:32

.....or indeed some of us who actually spend time living in Europe Smile

MightyMucks · 08/05/2018 10:32

whisky, what do you mean is being blocked that is going on?

MightyMucks · 08/05/2018 10:34

I do love the irony that the IRA who fought for self government are now in favour of blocking the English from doing exactly that.

Smeddum · 08/05/2018 10:34

@Luisa27 I’m worried about what is to come. I think that world politics in general is very focused on division and intolerance which is really frightening.
The anti immigration stuff is awful, it makes the UK look like we’re all Neanderthal racists who hate everyone.

Smeddum · 08/05/2018 10:36

@MightyMucks what? We’re talking about a UK wide vote, what the hell does England have to do with it? NI and Scotland voted to remain, that doesn’t count.
The post Brexit power grab from Westminster to the devolved parliaments is fly and sneaky, but nothing we can do apparently.
No idea why you’re wittering about the IRA tbh.

Luisa27 · 08/05/2018 10:37

@Smeddum - I feel the same. It’s actually incredibly upsetting

Smeddum · 08/05/2018 10:37

@Luisa27 Sad it really is.

The Irish Border on twitter.

UserV · 08/05/2018 10:43

'We don't want to leave the EU?'

Speak for yourself luv! Hmm

I can't WAIT to leave the bossy, controlling, manipulative, gaslighting bastards!

MightyMucks · 08/05/2018 10:44

Because the English voted for Brexit by a majority. But the threat of renewed hostilities over the Irish border might well grind Brexit to a halt or make it just happen in name only.

The IRA weren’t very happy about being ruled from a parliament in what they regarded as a different country. Much like Brexiteers. They have a lot in common.

Luisa27 · 08/05/2018 10:44

@Elendon I actually just spat out my espresso - ahahaha 😂

frumpety · 08/05/2018 10:47

40 odd years to come up with something akin to an actual plan to leave the EU , what have they come up with so far ?

Colbu24 · 08/05/2018 10:49

It's simple the EU need us. Our money to be specific.
We want to leave because we want to be global players not part of a crumbling old fashion block.
One day everybody it's going to say thank you to all the brave people that voted out.
Britain it's bigger and better than the rest of Europe.
I for one I'm excited about the future with 11 billion more in our pocket.
We just need to cut foreign aid to target the most needy and the sky it's the limit.

IIIustriousIyIllogical · 08/05/2018 10:49

Somehow I don’t think over 32.5 million people voted Leave.

Unfortunately for the whiners 32.5 million people didn't vote to remain either......

Blame the fence sitters rather than the people who knew what they wanted....

Smeddum · 08/05/2018 10:53

Because the English voted for Brexit by a majority. But the threat of renewed hostilities over the Irish border might well grind Brexit to a halt or make it just happen in name only

Talk about boiling it down to the simplest concept! Why didn’t anyone on the Leave side consider the Irish border issue before the vote then? Because it was discussed, widely, but nobody did anything about it.

If anyone thought that putting a hard border between NI and Ireland was going to be a simple solution they’re an idiot. It’s that simple.

FYI stamping your foot and saying “but England!” when you’re talking about 4 home nations, all with differing votes and opinions just makes you look a bit daft tbh. That and your complete lack of knowledge about NI.

And the IRA, as far as I’m aware, haven’t made any statement about Brexit nor have they got anything to do with politics unlike Theresa’s beloved DUP so I’m not sure why you’re on about them.

Luisa27 · 08/05/2018 10:55

I really don’t like the term ‘whiners’ - using insults ( aimed at individuals) in a crass attempt to close down open/ friendly debate isn’t helpful. I’d never dream of referring to leave voters as ‘brexshitters’ - it’s just unnecessary

Elendon · 08/05/2018 10:56

@Luisa27 I love the 'new words' bit too. Grin Plus Brexitlandia

Buteo · 08/05/2018 10:57

Blame the fence sitters rather than the people who knew what they wanted....

Only 37% of the electorate decided they wanted to Leave.

It’s not even remotely “the will of the people”.

MightyMucks · 08/05/2018 10:59

Confused I’m not saying ‘but England’. You seem to be taking my post and writing extra bits into it in your own head which aren’t what I’ve written or meant. I’m just noting the irony that the spectre of the IRA might well scupper the home rule the English want.

And yes there has been a lot of talk about the Good Friday agreement being ripped up and it goes without saying that a hard border would restart hostilities. You don’t need an official statement to know that.

deecrepid · 08/05/2018 11:01

Are we convinced that if we tore up ARTICLE 50 and said OK it was all a mistake the EU would let us back on the same terms? No Euro? Schwengen Agreement? Euro Army? It could all be very different and the EU would have all the control.

Elendon · 08/05/2018 11:02

Paranoid much deecrepid?

Euro Army? What are you on about?
