Takeaway spending

How much do you spend per week of month on takeaways and how many do you have a month?

I'm thinking of cutting down to save money and wondered how much others spent/have..

We have only ever had one take away in 24 years of marriage and that was 21 years ago . The curry sauce stained the work top !
However we do eat out most weekends and spend between £80 and £150 .

EdWinchester · 07/05/2018 19:52

We had one last Sunday (chinese) it was about £40 for 3, I think.

We don't get takeaways as a rule, but eat out 2 or 3 times a week.

vdbfamily · 07/05/2018 19:53

We have been married 16 years and never once had a takeaway delivered to us. We might get fish and chips to eat on the beach when on our hols. DH does sometimes buy a supermarket meal for 4 and recently pushed the boat out and bought a Cook curry which cost a fair bit. I am always shocked by how much work colleagues spend on takeaway or eating out, often the ones who claim to never have any money.

Passthecake30 · 07/05/2018 20:06

On average we eat out once a month and have a takeaway once a month. Usually decided by me, when I just have to inclination to think what to cook or cook it. 2 adults, 2 kids so £60 for eating out and £30ish for the takeaway.
Slightly less often in the summer when we have BBQs and more often in the winter when there's nothing else to do...

doesn’t really matter as it is really interesting to read the amounts and habits

greenlavender · 07/05/2018 20:10

Maybe one every couple of months

BikeRunSki · 07/05/2018 20:14

We might have Chinese takeaway a couple of times a year, and fish and chips 2 or 3 times a year, almost always on holiday.

Peachsnowpop · 07/05/2018 20:36

Zero for me and H. Mcds 3 times a month for the children. Chinese and Indian takeaways dont appeal to me anymore (never got pizza) and i think they're a waste of money and expensive

Op
What publication will this be appearing at in? Wink

Lovelydovey · 08/05/2018 08:42

Maybe every few months we get a takeaway. We often (perhaps fortnightly) get a packet of chips to share (£2) with dinner though.

PumpernickleInaWarehouse · 08/05/2018 08:49

We have cut down to one a week, a curry on a Saturday night. 5 of us. Prob spend 25 - 30 pounds.

At our worst we had 3 every weekend.

Friday Chinese, Saturday Indian and Sunday night dominoes.

We were spending a fortune!

TrappedWind · 08/05/2018 09:38

Probably order dominos on average once a week Blush

Indian maybe once a month.

McDonald's every other week.

God that sounds bad!

I must spend over £100 per month but I've never added it up!

Snog · 08/05/2018 11:18

Around £75 for the whole year - always fish and chips at £15 a time

Saladd0dger · 08/05/2018 11:23

Usually once a month but Iv ended up having 3 Doner kebabs this weekend with the nice weather and beer Blush

PinkHeart5914 · 08/05/2018 11:37

We order 1 about once a fortnight. From the Indian in our village it’s about £40/£50 for me and dh ( my dc are only small so don’t tend to have takeaways just yet as they are in bed when me and dh eat) but we do eat out a lot too so spend a lot of money on that

MrsPreston11 · 08/05/2018 11:46

Not had one yet this year.

If we're paying money for food I'd rather not wash up.

We've been on a couple of holidays so far this year so have eaten out lots then, and then been to Pizza Express maybe twice and often we pop to Nero after school. So we spend quite a bit on eating/drinking out, and will grab lunch out if we're on a day out etc. But very rarely have takeaways.

Bluesheep8 · 08/05/2018 12:37

Chinese probably every 6 weeks or so. £13 for 3 dishes to share. I cook rice at home and we buy crispy duck from Aldi. Fish and chips about 3 x per year £15. We tend to eat out for Indian as our favourite doesn't deliver and it's more or less the same price to eat in the restaurant and take our own alcohol

Bluesheep8 · 08/05/2018 12:44

Oh I forgot McDonald's... that's probably 3 x per year too.

£0. I do eat in restaurants fairly often though, it's a key part of my social life. I don't see any benefit in takeaways though.

ghostyslovesheets · 08/05/2018 12:51

about £20 a month

we tend to have one take away a month - usually Pizza or Chinese - occasionally chips!

Frosty66612 · 08/05/2018 12:54

Maybe about £60 a year on 4 takeaways between my OH and I. I used to get a Chinese every fortnight but I’ve developed a lot of stomach issues so I can’t really tolerate stuff like that anymore. Used to have McDonald’s regularly too but haven’t had one in 3 years as again it doesn’t agree with me anymore

Eolian · 08/05/2018 13:05

Confused at people who are saying MN must be really unrepresentative because takeaway places always look busy.

  1. Lots of people on this thread do have takeaways often
  2. There are lots of people. The vague observation that 'takeaways are busy' tells you bugger all about what proportion of people eat takeaways and how often.
FASH84 · 08/05/2018 13:22

We very very rarely do takeaways but live within walking distance of some nice independent restaurants, usually eat out once or twice a month not including family/friend's birthdays etc. Last month we didn't go out on our own as it was dad's 65th and we all went for a meal and DHs parents came down and insisted on taking us out as the last few times they've visited I've cooked. Dinner out usually £30 ish for two up to £50 if we're having more than one course and a few more drinks. When we were saving for our house and then wedding we very rarely ate out and would get takeaway 2 or 3 times a year. Depends what disposable income you have, we don't smoke, don't drink often and DH now walks or cycles to work. We do frequently go to the theatre, his and comedy gigs though, we've got a couple of theatres and a few live music venues nearby.
