Takeaway spending

Bananaramaboat123 · 07/05/2018 13:05

How much do you spend per week of month on takeaways and how many do you have a month?

I'm thinking of cutting down to save money and wondered how much others spent/have..

OP posts:
Snowman123 · 08/05/2018 18:52

£291 last month and £354 the month before.

Too much.

Fwaltz · 08/05/2018 19:10

Just sat down and totalled it up, and in April alone we spent almost £400. We live in London, and things like Deliveroo make it far too easy to order in although, I would add that this is a mix of healthy stuff [salads, Japanese, seafood etc.] as well as more traditional takeaway food. Either way though, that’s way too much to be spending, especially as it’s only me and my husband!

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 08/05/2018 19:16

We spend very little on takeaways. I love cooking and I rarely enjoy anything as much as a home-made version!

Occasional fish and chips, maybe 3 - 4 times a year, if football practice is running late or some other reason; sushi every now and again.

Takeaway food genuinely doesn't appeal to any of us very much, so it's not like we're fighting the urge to order something! Grin

SabineUndine · 08/05/2018 19:18

Far too much. In fact I’m teaching myself to cook Indian and Thai food this weekend.

purplebunny2012 · 08/05/2018 19:19

About once or twice a month. They really are a treat

Laineymc7 · 08/05/2018 19:33

Love a takeaway. We have two young kids so don’t get out. Don’t eat out, drink much or smoke. We have a Chinese every sat night in front of TV. Crazy bunch. Didn’t think this was extravagant.

TeaAndBisquits · 08/05/2018 19:46

We average out about 3-4 a month. We spend between £18-£25 a time. Always get a takeaway the Friday after payday!

BoomBoomsCousin · 08/05/2018 20:09

We'd got to the stage where we were spending nearly a hundred a week on two takeaways (not in the UK and it's very expensive here). I hadn't quite realised until I looked over our bank statement and thought "holy shit!". So we've stopped and don't have any now.

We've started making our own pizza on a Friday evening instead, which is both relatively inexpensive and a lot of fun.

Why do food threads always end up with pages and pages of posters sounding really righteous and smug?
I either don't believe you all or you have just intimidated other posters from being honest
I eat out weekends which involves chips and fried foods and I get a curry a couple of times a month, I also eat chocolate and crisps and sweets, yesterday I had three tubs of ice cream

Enthymeme · 08/05/2018 20:23

£0.

NotMeNoNo · 08/05/2018 20:29

We have had a very busy and stressful year, two house moves, working all over the place and buying lunches, lots of feeling like we deserved a treat...

With the increase of using contactless cards all these transactions were traceable and I realised were running into a couple of hundred pounds some months.

Mostly mcdonalds, subway and coffees, but eeeek! Rationing has now been implemented.

Every Friday..don't think that;s unreasonable... horrified (and gulity) by some of these other posts....

Normally just the two of us, so £38-40 on a Friday curry
Dominos (a rarity and only whenDS persuades ) using there deals is £40-45
No Chinese around here or delivered kebab
F&C maybe, but depends on husbands work schedule to collect!!

We don't gamble/go to cinema/ buy ready mades/ go to theatre etc etc. If we go to a restaurant its in place of a takeaway and about once every 2 months including birthdays/wedding anniversaries etc etc.

Are we bad people??

Not righteous or smug, just a bit worried that we may be so out of sync with the rest of the population... I honestly thought a Friday night off for me each week (that we can afford) wasn't unreasonable....
Why 'shouldn't I deserve that---- I cook all other meals from scratch, make my own bread and grow my own veg...none of us are overweight and even DH will now eat broccoli (on occasions), though not brussel sprouts....(not boasting, just desperately trying to justify my life!!)

scared of comments....

I eat crisps and chips (I don't care for sweets much), drink alcohol aside from a thimbleful of sherry at Christmas, but honestly do not have the money to spend on takeaways for 4 people except a few times a year. We're also rural so have to stump up more for a delivery as it's 2.5 miles away.

Madbengalmum · 08/05/2018 20:39

£0, would sooner cook myself and spend some money on quality meals out.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 08/05/2018 21:51

Mn doesn’t make me feel insecure in the least. if i adhered to mn doctrine & ethos I’d be a married sahm, writing thank you cards for every gift, dinner invite or party, and Helping out busily at school fetes for the PTA and fretting about school catchment as I make 12 dinners, stew, soup, risotto from a £4.99 Lidl chicken

Fortunately, no I don’t feel insecure or guilty about how my life compares to what folk on mn purport their life to be

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/05/2018 22:06

With us, we don't do it that often as DH has some intolerances to additives so it's easier to make our own stuff or buy ready meals with listed ingredients. We do however treat ourselves to a Sainsburys curry or other ready meals most weekends so I guess that takes the place of our take-away.

MrsExpo · 08/05/2018 22:12

About once a month. We have a chinese which costs about 15quid ...

Eh? Confused

Lollipop18 · 08/05/2018 23:07

On the other side of the fence, I run a takeaway and people spend roughly £30 on a meal for two and come back each week, others once a month

BuntyII · 08/05/2018 23:10

Loads, we eat takeaway all the time. I think I'm addicted to the MSG Blush

CosyLulu · 09/05/2018 03:35

We live right off a busy London high street with wall to wall restaurants and takeaways but apart from an occasional pizza for dd if she has friends over, we don’t use any of them! Spoilt for choice maybe.

UglyShoes · 09/05/2018 03:46

None anymore, can't face the one extremely rude waitress who always seems to be on shift when I go to pick it up. I'd rather just cook at home.

polkadotwellies · 09/05/2018 04:40

Used to be 0

But recently moved right next to takeaway street so now about a tenner a month.

LemonysSnicket · 09/05/2018 04:53

Per month maybe £40 - a curry/ Thai/ chicken one night and maybe pizza on a busy week.
