Takeaway spending

How much do you spend per week of month on takeaways and how many do you have a month?

I'm thinking of cutting down to save money and wondered how much others spent/have..

Ooh and this doesn't include when I'm away with work at least a week or two a month and I have to eat out every night, but work pays for that and I try where possible to have healthy options, salads, sushi etc

pollymere · 08/05/2018 17:42

Last one was £36 for three of us. We sometimes get chips to go with the rest of dinner. I try not to have one more than once a month, but if I included the chips it's probably at least twice.

Blackforestdonuts · 08/05/2018 17:44

Nothing. We do go out to a pub lunch/dinner about once a week though.

Brian9600 · 08/05/2018 17:51

Maybe 3-4 times a year. We live in London so are surrounded by options. Just not that into takeaways and don’t really see them as a treat- more likely something we’d have in a situation where we were hungry and needed to eat a big meal but also tired and with no food in (eg coming back from holiday after a day’s travelling).

duckling84 · 08/05/2018 17:54

Maybe once a month. Sometimes none, rarely 2. Spend about £25 and we are a family of 6

Annette69 · 08/05/2018 17:59

Food is always a disappointment, not ordered anything this year. Personally think a total waste of money. Rather eat out.

We were having them 2-3 times a month and they'd cost between £25-£70 depending on where we'd ordered from for 7 of us,but since I started slimming world we haven't had any,my DH has got a dab hand at making fake aways, they taste gorgeous,I can eat them and they're saving us a small fortune.

Once in an absolute blue moon

Singadream · 08/05/2018 18:13

About three times a month, occasionally one a week. About £20 each time

expatinscotland · 08/05/2018 18:18

Only on birthdays and some holidays. Probably about 6 or 7 times a year.

Sleepyblueocean · 08/05/2018 18:19

Birthdays so 6 times a year about £40 a go.

AthenaAshton · 08/05/2018 18:26

Zero. Would love to, but all my money is spoken for!

sgtmajormum · 08/05/2018 18:30

Probably £10-15 a month on pay day myself and 2 DS will have a kfc or fish n chips, and maybe once every six weeks i get myself a chinese/indian takeaway for about £10

llangennith · 08/05/2018 18:33

Never. I can’t bear to spend that much money on a takeaway when I can buy ingredients and cook them for much less.

GlomOfNit · 08/05/2018 18:36

Maybe once every 3-6 months?? Hardly ever happens. The local town has plenty but it's mostly greasy, very calorific and expensive. I'd much rather eat out now and then but DH and I haven't managed that for years (DS2 has SEN, we hardly ever go out together these days). Maybe we'll have something from the chippy when PIL are here - I think that's the last time we had takeaway, anyway.

I love cooking though. I don't see the point of paying way over the odds for mostly unhealthy food cooked by someone else. If I want unhealthy food I'll happily cook it for myself! Grin

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/05/2018 18:36

Indian - maybe once a year - cost about £30 for 4 of us
Chinese - same as Indian
Chippy - maybe 4-5 times a year - cost about £25
Nandos - maybe twice a year - cost about £45
Pizza - sometimes at Christmas - cost about £25.

SO, annually so averages out at maybe about every 6 weeks and about £20 a month. Probably eat out about a similar amount but cost is higher probably about £80 on average.

GlomOfNit · 08/05/2018 18:38

Can't believe these prices! Shock Surely it's almost as expensive just to go out and eat in a Chinese/Indian restaurant, if not a massively pricey one?

BabiesOneSleepNone · 08/05/2018 18:42

We spend about £20 on a dominos once a fortnight, have kebabs maybe once a week and do love a curry...maybe £30/£40 a week? That sounds bad saying it out loud 😳

BirthdayKake · 08/05/2018 18:42

We probably have two or three a week. Costs loads. But I never go out

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/05/2018 18:46

Glom - Nandos costs the same if you eat in or out. Sometimes we just can't be bothered getting a shower :)

Other take-aways are a lot cheaper to eat out. If we eat in in the chippy we are usually around £50 plus. It's cheaper to eat out as we don't then need to order a full portion for everyone (4 adults really) as we will split chips and sometimes get a large fish (usually two pieces) and split that too. Same for Indian/Chinese. probably order 3 meals and a starter and split between 4 - sometimes don't order rice/naan either.

Mostly we have them if we've been busy doing stuff/i'm not in the mood for cooking.

We live in basically a town full of restaurants and takeaways. The deliveroo list is packed! So much to choose from!!!

However as a family of 4 it would be a fortune to order all the time so we tend to have 1 per month £20-40 depending what it is. I guess when I add that up over a year it’s a lot but we don’t drink or smoke or eat out because husband works 6-7 days a week so I guess we justify it that way Blush

Eifla · 08/05/2018 18:52

Delivered takeaway (pizza or Chinese) about once every two months - £20 maximum.

Fish & chips or McDonald’s- maybe twice a month. Six quid or there abouts.
