Takeaway spending

Bananaramaboat123 · 07/05/2018 13:05

How much do you spend per week of month on takeaways and how many do you have a month?

I'm thinking of cutting down to save money and wondered how much others spent/have..

OP posts:
PandaCat · 07/05/2018 17:58

Each month is different. Usually 2 or 3 times a month, costs between £13-£19 each time depending on what we have.

FostersHomeForImaginaryFriends · 07/05/2018 17:59

I love mn but food threads bring out the judgy pants more than anything else, don't they.

Magicstar1 · 07/05/2018 18:00

We were having 2 - 3 per week at €20-€30 a time. Now we don’t have any and spend money on fresh fruit and veg....getting healthier lol. It was ridiculous though.

Honeybooboo123 · 07/05/2018 18:03

We eat out a lot but not takeaways, maybe £30 every six months?

hungryhippo90 · 07/05/2018 18:03

An obscene amount. Just today I looked through the bank statement. We eat out a lot. Need to stop.

Upsy1981 · 07/05/2018 18:04

Usually Saturday night. Usually around £20 a time. We didn't this weekend as we were doing a BBQ yesterday instead and had stuff left from last week's shop that needed eating up. BBQ stuff easily cost more than takeaway!

We used to eat out loads too. It was about £30 for the two of us before DD or when DD was little and had a kids meal or shared mine. We've cut back on that massively now, purely because of cost. Can easily be £60 a time for DH, DD (11) and me. Too much to justify as a random midweek treat for us currently.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 07/05/2018 18:05

I genuinely don’t think this is judgy thread.its interesting what the spends are
Seen worse usually the I can make 14meals,soup And risotto from one £5 chicken

pontiouspilates · 07/05/2018 18:08

We have take away maybe twice a year. Without fail we find it's never as nice as home cooked.

stevie69 · 07/05/2018 18:14

Nothing. I live in the heart of the city and pass a plethora of take away establishments on my walk home. But ....I can make healthier stuff at home and will ultimately feel better for it.

Now, eating out is a different matter: I do that quite regularly Smile

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 07/05/2018 18:15

We eat out quite a bit but probably only get a takeaway once every couple of months or so. When we get an Indian or Chinese we tend to deliberately buy more than we need so we can have the leftovers for dinner the following day.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 07/05/2018 18:16

Another who just realised we spend about £800-900 a month eating out. At least 2 dinners a week at a restaurant and frequently breakfast and or lunch out at the weekend

Xmaspost · 07/05/2018 18:17

About once a month for us I'd say at most. We do end up eating out a few times a week though ... it's more expensive for sure, but often done on Friday and/or Sat while in the local towns for convenience.

WomaninGreen · 07/05/2018 18:28

Sprinkles, as you've shared that figure, mind if I ask how many people that covers?

No judgement, just interested.

I'm really keen to leave London and live somewhere isolated, I hear "what about takeaways" from friends quite a bit. They seem unable to relate to us not having them, and with no experience I'm curious about costs. I think local fish and chips is £8 but not sure.

Goldmonday · 07/05/2018 18:30

About 20 a week, we tend to get one every Sunday as it's my cheat day.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 07/05/2018 18:36

That’s 2 adults and a toddler

NeverTwerkNaked · 07/05/2018 18:44

Probably about £20 a month on take-away (fish and chips/ Chinese or similar) as I prefer home cooked food.
But we do probably spend £100-£200 a month on eating out, whether just Dp and me or with the whole family. I’m happy to pay as there’s a change of scenery as well.

mummabearfoyrbabybears · 07/05/2018 18:48

We spend £0 on take aways. We do eat lunch out once a month/every 6 weeks or so.

adaline · 07/05/2018 18:48

Maybe £8 every two months on the chippy. Gets us two portions of chips plus a sausage for DP.

The other takeaways aren't worth the hassle.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 07/05/2018 18:54

About £25 a week and that's cutting down for us. We used to have about 2 or 3 takeaways a week as I was pregnant and unwell, but we have cut down to once a week, usually on the weekend. That's for me, DP and my eldest DC.

WomaninGreen · 07/05/2018 18:58

Thanks Sprinkles

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/05/2018 19:18

It all depends on income and oppurtunity. We have one fish and chips shop and one Chinese. The food isn't great in either and it can cost half my weekly food budget for one meal.

The nearest Indian is 5 miles away. The foods ok but nothing worth going out of your way for.

Hence me learning to do my own at home.

cloudtree · 07/05/2018 19:22

about once every 4-6 weeks - about £30 for chinese food for four of us.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 07/05/2018 19:35

Probably 6-10 a month. Very lucky to have Deliveroo and Uber eats to hand for some fantastic food.

I absolutely hate cooking and have to do so every day at work and just can’t bare the thought of doing it again when I get home at 8.30

Enko · 07/05/2018 19:47

Hmm I suspect we have takeaway about once every 8 weeks or so... sometimes more other times less so roughly every 8 weeks.. 5-6 of us (depending on if DD1 is home from UNI) so not a cheap thing to do likely £50-70

Mamabear1475 · 07/05/2018 19:49

we have kfc twice a month. Dh works in a restaurant so brings a lot of food home. So about 30 quid
