Takeaway spending

Bananaramaboat123 · 07/05/2018 13:05

How much do you spend per week of month on takeaways and how many do you have a month?

I'm thinking of cutting down to save money and wondered how much others spent/have..

we have takeaway curry maybe 3 times a year.

I'll allow the kids to have Dominos maybe 3 times a year.

That's all.

ProudPearlClutcher · 07/05/2018 13:20

We have about two a month. I’d rather it was fewer, but we got into the habit after having our youngest (3mo) and haven’t shaken it off yet. We spend about £20 a time, as it’s just for two of us.

ToasterBypass · 07/05/2018 13:22

About one a year between DP & me, so £25 ish. Usually Indian.

OhTheRoses · 07/05/2018 13:23

Fish and chips every couple of months. £16 for 4. But we'd be having food anyway.

I don't understand the attraction of spending lots on unhealthy greasy food that brings a whiff with it and creates washing up.

We had an Indian delivered about six weeks ago. It cost about £45 for 4 adults. It was poor. A sainsburys box for 8.99 plus an extra curry and side or two comes to about £15 and is good quality.

Stripybeachbag · 07/05/2018 13:25

Zero. Never have them.

SarcasticMrKnowItAll · 07/05/2018 13:25

About £300 per month. Actually typing that has made me feel quite sick Shock

ProudPearlClutcher · 07/05/2018 13:26

Tbf some of our “takeaways” are the supermarket versions. I still see them as treats / junk food / not what we want to be eating too regularly.

Shrodingerslion · 07/05/2018 13:26

I have spent about £500 on just eat since January.
It’s what we enjoy and work hard. So why not?
Some are overpriced others are ok. I would not get Dominos without a voucher.

Herja · 07/05/2018 13:26

£6 this year on happy meals. About £20 the year before. I like the idea, but dont actually like the food. So I gave up bothering.

I'm a good cook and I like cooking. I prefer the food I make to takeaway.

Polarbearflavour · 07/05/2018 13:27

Around £60 on Deliveroo.

formerbabe · 07/05/2018 13:27

About £300 per month

Shock

Omg!

Nothisispatrick · 07/05/2018 13:28

One or two a month, it's just two of us so probably around £20 a pop.

elliejjtiny · 07/05/2018 13:29

Birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas eve mostly so works out about once every 2-3 months. We rarely eat out though.

MumInTheCity · 07/05/2018 13:30

Haven't had one yet this year, but we do eat out about once a month, just me and DD so about £30-£40. DD sometimes gets herself a macdonalds or KFC but pays for it herself.

How does others spending impact on you ?

Daily mail fodder thread.

See, I just think you need to find a better Indian restaurant! We always use the same local one and it is incomparably better than a supermarket ready meal curry (which we never eat, as we can make much better - but still not as nice as the restaurant's)

Chewbecca · 07/05/2018 13:33

Quite a bit, probably once a fortnight for all of us at about £30 a time plus DH orders one (annoyingly) whenever I go out and don't cook which is most weeks so he spends another £25 or so a week. I reckon £160 pm is typical.

Tattybear16 · 07/05/2018 13:34

Zero, I can’t justify spending money on takeaways. I can cook better and I know what’s gone in it.😂

WomaninGreen · 07/05/2018 13:34

we live in London and pretty much £0. Maybe chips once in a blue moon?

batch cooking is v boring but v economical.

LadyLauraOver · 07/05/2018 13:36

Don't like it much so £0

Do go to a local cafe run by a non profit organization in my local town. Lovely food served within a five storey building selling crystals, incense, books and beautiful original art. A real treat of a place.
Drinks include "unicorn", "witches brew" and "fairy dust" plus normal coffee and scrumptious brownies.

snowgirl1 · 07/05/2018 13:38

Friday night each week - we spend £20 - £25. DH & I used to eat out together on Friday evenings pre-DC, so takeaway is the replacement for that. Didn't realise that we were extravagant in this respect until I read this thread!

Clayhead · 07/05/2018 13:39

About £30 a year, not our thing really.

Will get steaks from the butcher as a treat though.

RedSkyAtNight · 07/05/2018 13:40

Very seldom. I think takeaway are overpriced for what they are; we'd rather save the money and go out to eat occasionally instead.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 07/05/2018 13:41

Probably only have a takeaway about twice a year at about £50. We do go out to eat once or twice a month though - which probably costs £150 a time and means I feel I need to hold back on the takeaway expenditure.

fleshmarketclose · 07/05/2018 13:42

Only have a takeaway once in a blue moon (probably two or three times a year) so next to nothing spent here. I like a takeaway, my dc don't so can't see the point of buying a takeaway and still needing to cook so don't bother with a takeaway.
