Takeaway spending

How much do you spend per week of month on takeaways and how many do you have a month?

I'm thinking of cutting down to save money and wondered how much others spent/have..

Every few months we'll have one usually about 15 for two adults plus free delivery.

MrsLindor · 07/05/2018 14:31

This thread is a good example of MN not being reflective of the general public either that or on the whole people who are more reflective aren't answering.

The hot food takeaway business in the UK is huge, there's a huge variety of food in offer even in the fairly small town I live in, so people are using them more than 2/3 times a year and 99.9% aren't using only local organic ingredients, I've yet to see I've that's not for profit.

Me and DD have a takeaway roughly twice a month, either pizza, Indian or Chinese, pizza might be £15, Indian nearer £20, most people I know wouldn't think that was excessive.

CrabappleBiscuit · 07/05/2018 14:32

Twice a year probably, but for birthdays so over £150 for an Indian meal for ten or so people. From a really nice Indian restaurant.

If we can’t be arsed cooking more likely to get a ready meal or go out.

Used to spen£ a fortune on takeouts when younger on cheap pizzas when I’d have been better of with cheese on toast or one from the coop.

rookiemere · 07/05/2018 14:32

Well someone must be buying them otherwise there wouldn't be so many of them !

We would tend to have an Indian takeaway maybe once a month, usually costs around £30-35 for 2 of us plus a pizza for DS. We also have subway as a takeout lunch as a family maybe once every fortnight or so which is around £15 for 3 of us.

We do eat out as well though - particularly when we're away for the weekend and on holiday.

blueskyinmarch · 07/05/2018 14:32

Hardly ever. We did have fish and chips recently when we had got back from holiday and had no food in but i can't recall when one before that was. I do spend quite lot in M&S though on meals which i can just heat up and add veg to.

neversleepagain · 07/05/2018 14:33

Very rarely and if we do it will be pizza. There are 2 adults and 2 dc and we probably have takeaway pizza 3 or 4 times a year.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 07/05/2018 14:34

We probably spend Nearly 200 a week on eating out! Thursday nights are date nights so we go out for dinner, Friday nights we go out with the kids and Saturday nights we get a takeaway and have a movie night.

theeyeofthestormchaser · 07/05/2018 14:35

None. I don't like them. Greasy and oily. We have Pizza Express pizzas on Friday if they're half price at Tesco...

UserV · 07/05/2018 14:35

Once a month here (rural village - 5 miles from nearest town.) They do deliver, but charge £2 for delivery. So we just go and get it after an afternoon shopping... We get Chinese or Indian, and spend £8-11 between 2 of us.

bananafish81 · 07/05/2018 14:36

The restaurants on Deliveroo near me make far tastier food than I could cook at home - because I'm a terrible cook!

Avasarala · 07/05/2018 14:36

Nothing. Live in a small town in the country; there are a couple of delivery resteraunts but the quality isn't worth it. We just cook.

Avasarala · 07/05/2018 14:38

RedPandaMama · 07/05/2018 14:38

We used to get takeaway once or twice a week, but it was such a bad thing for our health and bank balance. We've managed to wean it down to about 2 a month but I'd rather it be one or none as I never actually enjoy it that much, I just crave it. It's usually £15-£20 a time, maybe £35 a month.

BrownTurkey · 07/05/2018 14:39

Once a month for health and finance reasons. £30 for four of us, less if fish and chips.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/05/2018 14:40

There's a book called the takeaway secret and I use that instead.

Dh says my chicken tikka masala is better than the takeaways.

DustyMaiden · 07/05/2018 14:42

Eat out several times each week, takeaway almost never.

If there was good healthy food I would be interested.

ThePants999 · 07/05/2018 14:46

Our combined eating out + ordering in budget is £150 a month.

NameChanger22 · 07/05/2018 14:46

We never get any takeaways. I'd much rather buy an M&S meal deal or go to a restaurant or cafe.

krustykittens · 07/05/2018 14:48

About £200 a month. We live in the middle of nowhere and it is a long drive to a good restaurant but it's how we choose to treat ourselves so we do it! Friday night is takeaway and move night with our two children and we all look forward to it. But we don't smoke or drink so save money that way.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 07/05/2018 14:51

Honestly, never really have takeaway except chippy when I fancy it
So about £20 for all of us every few months

Allthewaves · 07/05/2018 14:52

Usually £25 per weekend or up to £50

Starlight2345 · 07/05/2018 14:53

I used to buy one every couple of weeks more like once every 6 weeks now as prices seem to have gone up so much . I can cook so much cheaper at home.

How much do you spend op? If you are thinking about it saving you money it is irrelevant how much anyone else spends. They may not need to cut down.

Buxtonstill · 07/05/2018 14:56

Once every two or three months, despite having every kind of delivery available (live in London). I like making Chinese myself, and it is so cheap and easy to make. Ditto with Pizza. We have fish and chips, as I don't have a deep fat fryer, and oven chips don't cut it!

jugglingsatsumas · 07/05/2018 15:14

Pizza once a week so about £15.

OhTheRoses · 07/05/2018 15:28

Interesting. Now compare with the threads where the weekly supermatket shop is £60. Is that because those families are having 2/3 takeaways.

For £30 we can have good sirloins and all the trimmings. A lush leg of lamb for about £22. Again all the trimmings.

Why do people piss money away on poor quality, u healthy food?
