Takeaway spending

How much do you spend per week of month on takeaways and how many do you have a month?

I'm thinking of cutting down to save money and wondered how much others spent/have..

OP posts:
Adversecamber22 · 07/05/2018 14:00

Every other week, costs about £20 for a Chinese takeaway but I often cook stir fried veg to go along with it as I dislike veg in a heavy sauce.

LVXiii · 07/05/2018 14:01

Eep. We're extravagant! Probably a couple of times per month at about £30 per time and then maybe dinner out once per month at £60 ish.

SilverySurfer · 07/05/2018 14:01

Rarely order a takeaway. I don't eat Indian or Chinese and my favourite fish & chip shop doesn't deliver. I once ordered from another fish and chip shop -all was well until I turned over the bread roll and the underneath was covered in green mold - the whole lot went in the bin.

ParisUSM · 07/05/2018 14:04

Probably once every 4-6 weeks - I get a fish supper. I'd love to get Chinese food but haven't found one that doesn't give me a headache.

chestylarue52 · 07/05/2018 14:07

My friend really loves Japanese takeaway so we will have one if he stays over. Something very fun about eating sushi in bed 🙂 that’s about £35 and about once a month. Otherwise I try not to.

Clutterbugsmum · 07/05/2018 14:07

Probably once every couple of months. And if we get fish and chips we always get my mum some as by herself and doesn't buy it herself.

I have we have a lot less as I getting tight in my old age the children have got bigger. So fish and chips is around £35 and Chinese is about £60. So now I make my own fake away Chinese.

corcaithecat · 07/05/2018 14:08

£0 as we live over an hour away from any decent Indian restaurant. I initially missed them as we used to buy them regularly when we lived in a city. However, I've learnt to make excellent authentic curries now and my friends enjoy coming over for a curry night.

TalkFastThinkSlow · 07/05/2018 14:10

Every couple of weeks, probably about £60 per month. Could be less but I always like to order a few starters!

Judydreamsofhorses · 07/05/2018 14:12

We get pizza delivered once a month, which is usually about £25, but we also have things like M&S “dine in” or their Italian meal deal at least once a month, plus eating out.

Ikeameatballs · 07/05/2018 14:12

£12/ month on Indian veg set meal for one shared between me and DP.

£30/month on Papa Johns shared between me, dp, dss and dd, ds.

Each meal works out at about £6/head which I think is fairly cheap for the quality and convenience. We take care not to over order/be greedy which I think is a trap that you can fall into with takeaway.

Bixx · 07/05/2018 14:13

Hardly anything. I get a takeaway perhaps once or twice a year. Love it but just cannot justify the expense when I’m on a budget.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 07/05/2018 14:13

£0 because all the ones near me look grubby and make me think about those programs where they find rats and cockroaches living in the kitchen and no running water.

TheFaerieQueene · 07/05/2018 14:13

£0

I haven’t ever had a take away. We eat out regularly though.

LuluJakey1 · 07/05/2018 14:14

Takeaway for me and DH about once every couple of months.
Occasionally fish and chips.
Probably £20 a month total if you even it out.

BodgingThisMumThing · 07/05/2018 14:16

Maybe 20-30 a month! Either chips or Chinese but go months without. But we do tend to eat out in restaurants. We are on a budget but food is a big thing for us and we like to cook naice stuff or eat at decent places.

Esspee · 07/05/2018 14:17

Maybe twice a year on average. It is important to me that my family eat fresh food cooked from scratch. I know too much about the hygiene levels in takeaways to be comfortable feeding that to anyone and of course in their desire to make a profit they usually use the cheapest ingredients they can get away with.

gamerwidow · 07/05/2018 14:17

Takeaway for me and DH every Saturday comes to about £100/month. Dd doesn't like them.

ParisUSM · 07/05/2018 14:18

20 - 30 take outs a month - is that a typo?

12Nameymcnamechange · 07/05/2018 14:19

@ParisUSM I read it as £20-£30 rather than number of meals Smile

ParisUSM · 07/05/2018 14:20

Haha, that makes sense. Doh.

Rudgie47 · 07/05/2018 14:21

None, too expensive and fatty.

ProudPearlClutcher · 07/05/2018 14:28

Oh @flashbeam; that is quite interesting! I wouldn’t call a sandwich deal from Boots a takeaway, but I would call a supermarket curry / Chinese / Thai a takeaway. Weirdly I wouldn’t call a pizza from the supermarket “takeaway” though Confused.

BridgeFarmKefir · 07/05/2018 14:28

We probably have about 6 a month and TBH I'd be horrified if I worked out how much we spend - but it's just us and we have some disposable income. We live in the city and our Deliveroo options are fantastic - sometimes at the end of a long week it's just too tempting.

AjasLipstick · 07/05/2018 14:29

About one a month costing 25 dollars. Which is about 14 pounds. We're just not into spending a load of money on something we can make ourselves.

theunsure · 07/05/2018 14:30

£0 here too as too rural. But we buy a supermarket “takeaway” style meal every Friday for about £10.
We used to have a chip van but it stopped (sad times). That was about £13 for 2.

We used to spend around £25 a week on a massive Chinese for 2 when we lived nearer town.
