Takeaway spending

Bananaramaboat123 · 07/05/2018 13:05

How much do you spend per week of month on takeaways and how many do you have a month?

I'm thinking of cutting down to save money and wondered how much others spent/have..

When the kids were smaller probably £20 a week just for the adults. Now they are bigger and we eat out more, we get an Indian or Chinese takeaway for all of us once a month or so - prob around £35.

ReanimatedMuse · 07/05/2018 13:43

Take away curry or Chinese every week for 5 = about £300 plus a take out pizza once a month for DC is another £30

TERFragetteCity · 07/05/2018 13:43

if we spent £50 in a year i would be surprised.

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 07/05/2018 13:44

We have a lovely independent pizza place using fresh organic ingredients down the road from us and get pizza from there two or three times a year. That's it otherwise. But we have lunch out about once a month with a group of friends and will usually get street food when out and about in the nearest city (once every two or three months).

SadieHH · 07/05/2018 13:44

Once a month. I'm a pig and love takeaways but DH is very health conscious and so he reins me in. Generally fish and chips but sometimes pizza which the kids love. We don't eat out as much as we used to though.

BluePony · 07/05/2018 13:45

Once a month probably the odd fish and chips or McDonald's so about £12 a month or so.

12Nameymcnamechange · 07/05/2018 13:45

Oh god, well I knew we were probably a bit at the extravagant side of things, but not as bad as we come across from this thread! Our friends have similarish life styles in my defence?

We have a family Chinese every Friday night (£34) and me and my partner probs have an Indian or fish and chips another night of the week (£15-20)

We eat out for lunch once a week (£40-£50ish) and have a proper supper out another night (£100) I probably go out for breakfast twice on top of that too.... (£15 a time)

We eat a lot of soup and egg on toast for the other meals if that helps balance it out?!

SasBel · 07/05/2018 13:47

We had one for my birthday last year, and it wasn’t great!

WalkingOnAFlashlightBeam · 07/05/2018 13:48

I would say I was getting chippy about once every week or two, and a thai takeout around once each month, until I changed my diet recently and started watching what I was eating. The Thai would last two meals: one the night I had it and lunch the next day. So about £20 per month. OH was getting a pizza delivery once every week or two.

If you have a decent takeaway you really enjoy that does brilliant food it's a lovely thing to be able to pick up ready made food you can't cook as well yourself! I could happily eat the thai for every meal if I let myself 😂

But my weight has crept up and I realised recently I am now on the cusp between healthy weight and overweight which is a massive shock as it's the heaviest I've been, and I've made some changes to get back to how I like to be. And it's no wonder with chippy and thai so regularly! A takeaway ought to be a treat for me I think, not a regular thing, but I don't care how often other people do it.

SluttyButty · 07/05/2018 13:48

We have them about twice a year. So £30 x 2 =£60.

We have loads round here but they're a huge waste of money hence it's usually on on the children's birthdays.

We did have an extra one last year when we moved house and couldn't be bothered to even put something in the microwave.

Evangeline3 · 07/05/2018 13:49

Way too much. Blush
My only defence is I order healthy ones like tuna steak etc but still, the amount of money I spend on them is atrocious.
Trying to cut down.

Pandora1box · 07/05/2018 13:49

Maybe once or twice every couple of months

JaceLancs · 07/05/2018 13:50

WalkingOnAFlashlightBeam · 07/05/2018 13:51

Forgot to add I was also eating out a lot: probably a couple of times per week.

These threads are interesting but everyone has a different idea about what counts as a takeaway or eating out, for example I don't think there's any real difference between going out for a pub lunch and ordering a takeaway in terms of expense and calories but people might only consider the meals that they literally take away.

And I would consider buying lunch out during the work day or while out shopping to be eating out or a takeout, a meal deal from boots is a takeaway to me when I could be just as easily bringing in nicer, healthier, fresher, tastier lunch from home :)

BrioLover · 07/05/2018 13:51

Probably once per month and around £20-30. We do own a coffee and wine shop though so I have a proper cappuccino each day and around three bottles of wine per week (the wine is shared with DH).

FinallyHere · 07/05/2018 13:52

v v rarely

It's just the two of us now, we both eat at breakfast and/or lunchtime in our respective (highly subsidised) canteens so only need a snack in the evenings. Eating at home is a pleasure for the weekend. We both cook way better than any take away [smug]

WalkingOnAFlashlightBeam · 07/05/2018 13:53

When I started looking into the calories I couldn't believe it and I just pretty much wrote them off from my diet. I try stick to 1200 calories ATM on MyFitnessPal, and a thai with coconut rice is 1200 easily. If I want to eat out I'll eat light the rest of the day and the day before and after possibly but it's just not worth it.

monkeychickenpig · 07/05/2018 13:53

About 1-2 times a weekBlushBlush

Pinkprincess1978 · 07/05/2018 13:53

Probably once a week and we spend between £15 and £25 a time depending on what we are getting and if kids are eating too.

dubmumof2 · 07/05/2018 13:55

Around €150 per month, usual Friday evening tea for myself and 2 DCs. Dominos Pizza for DS, Thai for DD and I (or sometimes sushi or dim sum). It's become a bit of a tradition....before it became a takeaway tradition, the 3 of us used to eat out in a local eatery as our Friday evening tea.....couldn't really cook it as well ourselves and to be honest on a Friday evening I'm generally just a bit worn out after the week and enjoy being handed food :)

ellsbells2 · 07/05/2018 13:55

We have 3/4 a month so probably around £120.

Before we had children we ate out a lot so spend less now than we did before.

Ilovehamabeads · 07/05/2018 13:57

Once a week. £100 a month probably. Some are more expensive than others, we have a lot of choice as live opposite 2 Chinese, a chippy, Indian and a pizza & kebab place Blush

OliviaStabler · 07/05/2018 13:58

I only have a one or two a year. The food simply isn't good enough to warrant spending more.

WomaninGreen · 07/05/2018 13:59

someone mentioned eating out - not a fan of that either though the rest of the family would def do it more so if I'm with friends, sometimes they do that

our nearest supermarket is Aldi and they have lovely pizzas though! so if I was a takeaway person I'd definitely rather have those in the freezer and bung in the oven than pay for a pizza to be delivered and it wouldn't be as nice anyway.

Emily7708 · 07/05/2018 14:00

Barely anything. A Papa John’s delivery maybe once every few months for £30 but nothing else. Just don’t really enjoy takeaways and would rather have more to show for my money than overspending on food.

Mind you I work unsociable hours and the office always stinks of curry/Chinese/pizza so I don’t fancy it at home too!
