I love scary films and am looking for some inspiration for ones to download. I like any from psychological thrillers, to paranormal ones, to gory serial killer ones. Please let me know your favourites

I’m a huge horror movie fan and have watched most of the ‘good’ ones.

The scariest movie I’ve watched recently is about an attic dweller who comes down at night. It’s not a ghost movie but oh.my.god, it made me jump out of my skin. Unfortunately I forget the name. It was ‘something Within’ or something like that.

I’m usually unfazed by most horror movies but this was really, really good.

Also, Get Out is good.

Can you tell what my favourite decade dor horrors is?Grin

LilMadAgain · 05/05/2018 10:04

Dawn of the Dead, original and remake. I love zombies so I'm biased.

Gileswithachainsaw · 05/05/2018 10:07

I like the thing
And the exorcism of Emily rose.

Not scary though. My quest for an actual scary movie continues. Have watched nearly all the recommendations and still not scared Grin

The Babadook

Frosty66612 · 05/05/2018 10:07

@ironfloor is it called “Within”?
Thanks for everyone’s suggestions so far. I’ve seen most of them but you all have impeccable taste

@giles I’m the same - I love horror movies but generally never find them very scary and can easily watch them on my own in the dark. I found the latest Blair Witch that came out in 2016 surprisingly creepy though

I agree that The Descent is a wonderful film though it's hard to pick an absolute favourite I would go with this.

The Shining did genuinely frighten me, most horror films don't. I also love comedic horrors like Dog soldiers.

Ironfloor I'm the same so will try me find this film.

Pythone · 05/05/2018 10:12

The Woman In Black
Ju-on: The Grudge
Ringu
Event Horizon
Dog Soldiers

Frosty66612 · 05/05/2018 10:13

@pythone I once saw The Woman in Black at the theatre and they did it so well. The audience were all screaming out loud as they made it incredibly jumpy

OP posts:
Pythone · 05/05/2018 10:15

I wouldn't dare to see it in the theatre! The film was scary enough!

ImogenTubbs · 05/05/2018 10:22

Also love The Descent. Recently watched Get Out which was good but not that scary. Hush is great and I really want to see A Quiet Place. Also enjoyed It Follows. 10 Cloverfield Lane - more of a thriller but really unusual. I hardly ever meet other women who like scary films. I have no one to watch them with!

Frosty66612 · 05/05/2018 10:24

@Imogen A Quiet Place was good. I didn’t find it scary but it had loads of suspense so was very entertaining to watch.
None of my friends or family like horror films. My OH tolerates then but he wouldn’t watch them out of choice

John carpenters Halloween, the night he came home, more of the night he came home, NOT HALLOWEEN 3, 4 the return of Michael Myers, 5 the revenge of Michael Myers and 6 the curse of Michael Myers !!!

Also like conjuring 1 and 2

Annabelle and the subsequent prequel that made Annabelle all make sense :)

Happy horror watching !!

runsmidgeOMG · 05/05/2018 10:25

Oh and Halloween H20

I like Halloween films a little bit

Frosty66612 · 05/05/2018 10:27

@runssmidge the Halloween song was my ring tone back in the day where you could buy ringtones for your phone haha

@Frosty66612

Omg OMG me toooooooo!!!
Made my mum jump with it on Halloween night, good times ! 😂

Silverstreaks · 05/05/2018 10:36

The Mist. Fantastic creatures and bleak.
The Thing. Classic.

Loved A Quiet Place, there were only a few people watching and everyone was respectful of the silence. It straddles horror and suspense and is probably the best film I've seen in a while.

PringlesPirate · 05/05/2018 10:38

If you liked The Descent, then I think you would like Nails. It’s on Netflix. I enjoyed The Ritual, as well

ConciseandNice · 05/05/2018 10:41

Susperia! I knew someone who worked on the makeup in that one. I loved it. I also love a lot of Korean stuff.

BelfastBloke · 05/05/2018 10:45

My favourite is American Werewolf in London, but I don't like horror apart from that.

My sister, however, is an absolute horror connoisseur. Her favourite horror film is The Orphanage (produced but not directed by Guillermo del Toro). (This is not the film Orphan, either). We saw it together in the cinema and I watched a lot of it with my eyes squinting half-closed in a small gap between the seat back and the brim of my hat pulled low.
