To meet up with MIL to discuss broken wine glass!

Can't believe the previous thread reached a thousand posts, thanks so much for your support everyone!

I ended up reading MIL's facebook messages for me this morning. Turns up she wants to meet up at a café this weekend to smooth things over "without the boys knowing". She also said she would bring the egg pram back (?!).

Haven't replied yet. DH was pretty upset last night; not sure if he is actually considering going NC with his father. If so, it wouldn't be fair of me to meet up with his Mum in secret - but she's always been lovely to me and I'd hate for my GC having no GP in his life.
Ugh! Still so gutted over this whole thing.

You have all posted some very good advice so I am going to sit and read through it until I decide what we do now.

OP posts:
GinandGingerBeer · 08/05/2018 12:16

MN frequently post that when a thread runs and runs.

BrendasUmbrella · 08/05/2018 13:00

I can believe it was real, but we won't see her back now. It's one thing to say you don't care if the DM picks up your thread, another for the reality of seeing it in several papers.

I really dislike the way popular threads wind up in the tabloids. It never used to happen. And it kills off interesting threads, and probably puts other people off from posting at all.

challengeme · 08/05/2018 13:07

I would fix their wagon but one: do not under any circumstances go behind your husbands back two: your new baby is a unique one off irreplaceable item and under no circumstances can you risk anybody but its parents to hold it [looking is fine maybe a touch but no holding] and three : ask to see the sign which states all damages must be paid for dont let them win they will walk all over you if you do it looks like your husband is being supportive of you good luck and dont bend you may break something best wishes for your bump

Ruffian · 08/05/2018 14:58

It's actually MNHQ which in my opinion made it look more like it wasn't true posting on the thread and reminding people not to get invested

I don't agree, I think mn are right to gently remind people where a thread is generating a lot of advice and personal experiences. What made it look dodgy (to some people) was the OP disappearing never to return after the mn message.

Foxysoxy10 · 08/05/2018 15:03

The FIL is obviously well connected with his millions in the bank and clearly hired a hitman to take out OP, otherwise I’m sure she would have been back by now with an update to this epic saga.

Ruffian · 08/05/2018 15:16

Trouble is, if there was an update it might well be that op and dh had decided to back down and apologise so as to stop all the stress and not risk FIL leaving all his money to a cat's home.

Don't think pp would have wanted to hear that

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 08/05/2018 15:27

The MNHQ message only appeared once people started to suggest money collection for the OP to do her 4D scan, since the FIL had pulled the plug on it. This is normal when money starts being mentioned on threads, but I agree it could have had an effect on people's feelings about the thread, including the OP.

InsomniacAnonymous · 08/05/2018 16:22

"The MNHQ message only appeared once people started to suggest money collection for the OP to do her 4D scan, since the FIL had pulled the plug on it. This is normal when money starts being mentioned on threads"

Exactly.

Flexoset · 08/05/2018 16:31

Yes. I read the Mumsnet HQ message purely as a reference to a possible money collection (which the OP herself never mentioned or sanctioned - it was suggested by other posters).

Certainly didn't read it as implying that the OP was less than genuine in any way.

SparkleMotions · 09/05/2018 13:44

Hope the OP is ok! its so annoying when DM scour Mumsnet for threads and post them (slow news day) I really hope the FIL gets his head out of his arse and realises that the relationship with his Son and Wife are more important than a bloody wine glass!

Marmablade · 09/05/2018 14:38

Have you tried phoning up the 4D place and asking why it's cancelled? If it's either PIL that is so low to take back a present. Especially one related to their GC. Low enough for NC in my book.

Offthebandwagonagain · 09/05/2018 19:20

Op?

YouTheCat · 09/05/2018 19:35

On threads like these, MNHQ will generally post something along the lines of 'we have no reason to doubt the Op' to dissuade troll hunters. They didn't do that on this one.

mummabubs · 09/05/2018 19:43

They did @YouTheCat, upthread after people offered to raise money for a 4D scan. I'm pretty sure they said they had no reason to doubt the op was genuine but just to exercise caution when sending money? Hope you're ok OP and that things have calmed down/resolved somewhat.

Ruffian · 09/05/2018 19:57

We're just hopping on to say that we can't guarantee everyone is who they say they are - this is the internet, after all. We aren't saying the OP isn't genuine, but just to keep in mind not to give more (financially or otherwise) than you can afford to spare if things went wrong

PatheticNurse · 19/07/2018 20:28

Was there ever an update to this thread?

Bluelady · 19/07/2018 20:34

It appears not. Strangely I was only thinking about it yesterday.

DesignStatement · 19/07/2018 21:35
