To meet up with MIL to discuss broken wine glass!

Can't believe the previous thread reached a thousand posts, thanks so much for your support everyone!

I ended up reading MIL's facebook messages for me this morning. Turns up she wants to meet up at a café this weekend to smooth things over "without the boys knowing". She also said she would bring the egg pram back (?!).

Haven't replied yet. DH was pretty upset last night; not sure if he is actually considering going NC with his father. If so, it wouldn't be fair of me to meet up with his Mum in secret - but she's always been lovely to me and I'd hate for my GC having no GP in his life.
Ugh! Still so gutted over this whole thing.

You have all posted some very good advice so I am going to sit and read through it until I decide what we do now.

One of the comments on the Sun article is comparing MN to "playboy 40 years ago, when there was stories of women having 20 orgasms per session" Confused Is there a secret section of MN that I don't know about?? 😂
How're you holding up, OP?

AvoidingDM · 06/05/2018 10:16

Sunwhere are you. I'd agree some wealthy people are so stingy. My ILs multiple holidays a year, retired in there 50's, are 2 of the meanest people you'll meet.

Dwellerfromunderthesink · 06/05/2018 11:00

The Mail has this in today

Idontdowindows · 06/05/2018 11:28

I'm gonna wait for one of the in-laws to show up.

SingingOutOfTune · 06/05/2018 11:45

Hope OP comes back. Guessing it must have hit the fan with all be the media attention. We deserve an update.

elfies · 06/05/2018 11:58

surely newspapers can find their own news , without regurgitating private opinions .
Are there no privacy laws mumsnet can use to protect its members ,after all even an amateur photographer needs permission to feature someone in a snap these days ,and this surely should need similar permissions.

abilockhart · 06/05/2018 12:06

Would if the was the DM who wrote the OP in the first place?

The mocktails were a bit contrived.

wobblywindows · 06/05/2018 12:15

Ask them to put the broken glass down as your next Christmas present from them, and next birthday present etc for as many years as are needed to make up the £156. Depends how much they'd normally spend on you. Also means you don't have the expense of exchanging presents with them. And I like the earlier suggestion that obviously you can't take GC round theirs for fear of breaking something.

Ruffian · 06/05/2018 12:17

Wouldn't hold your breath for the OP to come back. Hasn't been seen on the thread since MN made their standard intervention warning posters to remember that not everyone is as they seem online...

sunwhereareyou I think the difference here was the way the FIL went about it - apparently brushing off the incident at the time then sending an invoice by email. If he'd just said at the time that the glass cost a fortune and he's upset op/dh could have offered to pay.

ScreenQueen · 06/05/2018 12:26

Anyone seen anything nice on Moda Operandi ads contaminating this thread? I saw some v pretty wallpaper yesterday for £3,500 ish ConfusedGrin

HoldingTheLineWinston · 06/05/2018 12:29

I can't imagine the broadcasting of this on the DM will do much for the family dynamic, whatever the faults of the in laws are.

SingingOutOfTune · 06/05/2018 12:50

Agree Mumsnet shouldn't allow this to be published.... It makes you think twice about what do you want to say here. Hope OP is OK.

Highhorse1981 · 06/05/2018 12:55

Mumsnet is a massive internationally recognised parenting website and, as a result, is regularly featured in DM and other news sites.

If you post on mumsnet you really must acknowledge that there’s a chance you will be recognised that is the risk you take.

PotTheRed · 06/05/2018 12:56

Lol at this thread making the Daily Fail. Such crappy journalism.

InsomniacAnonymous · 06/05/2018 12:58

The OP said in the first thread that she wasn't bothered if this turned up in the press.

kateandme · 06/05/2018 13:05

is there anything ive messed.i went off at the end of the beginning of this post.have I missed any updates in 35 pages!

pigsDOfly · 06/05/2018 13:05

What happens when threads like this are poached by papers like the DM? Do they reprint the whole thread (surely not), parts of it, or just a general outline?

Whatever, it's hardly cutting edge investigative journalism, is it?

Sit at a desk, click a mouse a couple of times and there's your story. Do the people who do that call themselves journalists?

ADishBestEatenCold · 06/05/2018 13:12

"Wouldn't hold your breath for the OP to come back. Hasn't been seen on the thread since MN made their standard intervention warning posters to remember that not everyone is as they seem online..."

Oh no! You're right, Ruffian, I hadn't noticed that. How disappointing if she's a troll, but ... now you have pointed that out ... it does seeming increasingly likely.

Jux · 06/05/2018 13:12

"We deserve an update." GrinGrin
We deserve an update? Grin

I'm assuming that is actually a joke?

Doesn't copyright law protect against this kind of thing?

extinctspecies · 06/05/2018 13:35

No Arcadia you signed away your copyright to anything you post on here when you agreed to Mumsnet's Terms & Conditions.

Which you probably didn't read, because no-one ever does.

Shampaincharly · 06/05/2018 13:39

OP was last here writing about her 4D Birthday present scan being cancelled.
Maybe Mr and Mrs Pug are trying to have a nice weekend.

Grumpyoldblonde · 06/05/2018 13:40

There are people who make up nonsense to get in the papers, remember the live ban last week? Poster admitted to many made up threads. I'd think quite a few threads that make the mail are original bollocks.

It's easy for a PBP to come back too as seen by our rich friend.
