Really sad that this site is going to allow itself amd women on here to be bullied and silenced. Most of all because the support here for abused women is some of the best on the net and now the actual site is allowing itself to essentially be abused and bullied into submission

I have not seen evidence of that. Don't worry. Women are alive and kicking and expressing their many views on here.

vitara · 03/05/2018 14:49

Good point.

Maybe.

callmeadoctor · 03/05/2018 14:53

What on earth is this about?

dinosaursandtea · 03/05/2018 14:54

Taking a wild stab in the dark and guessing that Mumsnet are finally listening to the views of trans women and challenging the hate speech on here.

It's bloody annoying that someone can control a space they're not even actually interested in participating in isn't it?

If Pistonheads, datalounge and reddit were being pursued for their speech too then I might think that it was about the common good, rather than trying to punish women for wanting to talk amongst themselves....

RandomDreams · 03/05/2018 15:02

And MNHQ are only deleting posts if they are breaking talk guidelines so why does it matter how they are being reported?

They are posting screenshots of things on Twitter (none of the ones I've seen have been transphobic- more of the "a trans woman is male" type so factual.) They are bombarding individuals with threats and cruelty. One poster was told they hoped her baby was stillborn. And they are connecting Twitter accounts with anonymous posting on here.

Mumsnet is encouraging this by asking them to tweet anything they feel is transphobic (which appears to mean anything they don't like). Attached is an example of something from another thread that they consider transphobic.

There have now been Twitter accounts set up purely to search through mumsnet and report. Other accounts are being used to raise publicity so that mumsnet mods are bombarded.

This is clear bullying. And mumsnet is capitulating.

It's very sad that truth speech is mistaken for hate speech.

Trans women are not men. They’re women. Saying otherwise IS transphobia.

crunchymint · 03/05/2018 15:18

Mumsnet is a business. If it pisses of its feminist posters too much and they go elsewhere, it loses its unique selling point. Without them, its just another site of people talking about issues largely to pass the time.

God, I hope so. Sick of witnessing what goes on here towards trans people. It makes me ashamed to be a MNer.

crunchymint · 03/05/2018 15:19

dinosaur Stating something, does not make it true.

flowersonthepiano · 03/05/2018 15:21

dinosaursandtea

At the risk of being repetitive - please define 'women' (without using the words woman or women)

DairyisClosed · 03/05/2018 15:21

Not really though. Surely that is more a dispute of fact as opposed to hate speech. Think of it as people who say they are mushrooms are actually people as opposed to people who say that they are mushrooms should all go die.

mostdays · 03/05/2018 15:22

Stating something, does not make it true.

Yep. So when people state that trans women are not women, that they have stated it does not make it a fact. :)

RatRolyPoly · 03/05/2018 15:25

I don't have much time to post right now but genuine question to the floor:

If I could convince you that being a woman (i.e. not "female" but specifically a woman) is not all about biology, would impact would this have on your arguments or perspective? If any?

Because I think I could give it a fair shot (and have started to on other threads, but don't have time right this second).

I'd like to know what that would mean for people's viewpoints on the issue.

crunchymint · 03/05/2018 15:25

I would never simply state that, I would explain why they are not women. You need to be able to back up any assertions.

RatRolyPoly · 03/05/2018 15:26

Think I posted that on the wrong thread but hey ho, question still stands. Hope it's not too much out of context!

crunchymint · 03/05/2018 15:27

Woman is about biology and socialisation. So I would agree that it is not only biology.

NotARegularPenguin · 03/05/2018 15:28

People are being deleted for stating biological facts.

In what way are transwomen women @dinosaursandtea? Can you please explain?
