I don't know about you, but since the instamums posts I have really noticed the #AD on posts, and to be honest I had no idea I was so gullible. I loved the threads regards instamums and really think MN made a small change, well done us

The thing I don't get is that there's so much on Instagram too - are they really presenting Instagram as this wonderful supportive space?!?!

BinG0wings123 · 07/05/2018 08:53

Thing is, mumsnet will still be here in 5 years. Still making money. Same can’t be said for the instamoaners and they know that. The only reason I think they had the meeting with the influencers was because they were working with some and neither side wanted to lose money. But I don’t think mumsnet has anything to worry about with this laughable hashtag created by someone with piss poor engagement.

FostersHomeForImaginaryFriends · 07/05/2018 08:53

So much judgment on Instagram, that should say.

MadameGrizzly · 07/05/2018 08:54

Agree, NovichoksAway. She has also gained fewer than fifty followers, but I suppose even small gains count for a tiny account?

PavlovaPrincess · 07/05/2018 08:59

@MadameGrizzly Shock oh god, I'm cringing for her.

NovichoksAway · 07/05/2018 09:00

Oh god I can’t look at that MadameGrizzly 🙈

BinG0wings123 · 07/05/2018 09:01

@madamegrizzly 🤮😫

MadameGrizzly · 07/05/2018 09:04

The instastories are very frustrating because all the grifting and social climbing happens there - then disappears.

"You grifted for Miele products!"

"Prove it."

"Hold my beer..."

HolyMountain · 07/05/2018 09:07

Dear God!

Shut the front door and have a word with yourself love. She’s a mum, not the fucking Messiah!

MadameGrizzly · 07/05/2018 09:09

Actually, instastories is where the worst non disclosed advertising happens, too.

Mumofkids · 07/05/2018 09:09

I just find this whole holier than thou nonsense so unpleasant. They are businesses, cashing in on Instagram, making money out of their followers and families and feel they should not be discussed or mentioned in any way. It's not just Jenny from next door getting trolled on the internet, it's massive money making businesses getting pulled up on freebies, ads and gifted, and their use of their children.
MOD seems so self entitled compared to other accounts who seem to recognise and be grateful for their lucrative platform.
C Telford maybe unfollowed this morning, I liked her post about her friend gifting her clothes until the last few sentences apologising if it was obviously a gift or a bit wanky but due to comments she felt she had to make it clear... I'd have assumed you bought the clothes so I thought it was a brilliant post until that point... although the clothes are so boring!

PavlovaPrincess · 07/05/2018 09:14

@Mumofkids yes, CT's last sentence was really full of resentment that anybody might have the temerity to question her integrity.

NovichoksAway · 07/05/2018 09:18

She sounds like she thinks she’s just invented bartering 😂

timetogetanewfence · 07/05/2018 09:21

“It’s like a car crash that I can’t look away from. MOD is my guilty pleasure.”

Says it all, really. Hmm

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 07/05/2018 09:21

God, you know what? I think I may just actually terminate my IG account as I find the “mummy” community majority insufferable.

I started following so many of these accounts as I was interested in how “mums like me” (comfortable SW London middle class) get on as my brain snapped in two with PND when DC1 was tiny and I didn’t know anyone around me.

They’ve changed into ad machines and have lost all relteability. It’s just all such bullshit, nothing you see is true. Plus FOD’s belief that he’s the next comic genius since Lenny Bruce makes me want to taser my eyeballs.

I need to unfollow. It’s not healthy.

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 07/05/2018 09:26

Every time MOD posts anything about something they 'really need' now, I assume she is angling for a freebie. They were doing it about garden furniture and faulty paddling pools yesterday.

If you think about it, just constantly posting about stuff you want to buy is incredibly dull isn't it?

Also slight change of subject, but Caroline Hirons has a fucking cheek slagging off Mumsnet doesn't she? I had never heard of her until all the Style and Beauty threads on here going on about how amazing her blog and her advice is. She was like God on here once upon a time!

This was a good while ago now though, so maybe she had some MN beef since then?

WipsGlitter · 07/05/2018 09:32

I saw the shameless shoutout for Lakeland too. They've probably just thought fuck it and are going to milk it while they can.

HolyMountain · 07/05/2018 09:32

CH got a bit of a roasting on a bloggers thread in S+B a year or so ago.

She doesn’t take negativity towards her opinions well although I’m sure she’d disagree with that Grin

HolyMountain · 07/05/2018 09:34

Lakeland don’t need a MoD post to boost their popularity so I hope they ignore her.

I’d have said the same about Miele so what the hell do I know!

Mumofkids · 07/05/2018 09:36

@pavlovaprincess her stories were worse! The arrow pointing... just no need. You were doing a good job.

Takeoutyourhen · 07/05/2018 09:36

It's like trying to be in the cool club at school if you want to join the "elite" instamums. The deciding factor as to whether they make the time of day for you is whether you have got a comparable number of followers or subscribers. And also whether their management push you together as part of a future business plan. Until you have also met dizzying heights of success, you will only be treated as a fan girl, not an equal. So competition to gain popularity is understandably rife.

EeebyMum · 07/05/2018 09:56

You think she’s still sat on the step?

timetogetanewfence · 07/05/2018 09:58

Guys, guys. Constructive criticism is great, especially when it comes to AIBU. But jeez, do you not see the irony of what you're doing? Obsessively following their new posts, creenshots of their IG stories and laughing at what they're doing/saying... isn't that, oh, I dunno, the same kind of mean girl behaviour that you yourselves are criticising them for doing? Isn't it all a bit tit-for-tat? Come on now.

Mumofkids · 07/05/2018 10:05

@timetogetanewfence this had all completely died down until MOD herself took it upon herself to post that post a couple of days ago. The majority of this is a response to that. And as I've said I'll be unfollowing the ones that irritate. It's just a shame when it had all died down.
To be fair I very much doubt that MOD has time to shop for herself or buy things as she's so busy with work one day a week and 4 days influencing/being an author.
I will say poor old FOD seems to have had a far less fancy book publishing compared to his wife and it all seems a bit sad. No holidays for him or fancy meals and by all accounts he's produced a book he spent a lot of time on not a journal... not that I'm compelled to purchase either.

NovichoksAway · 07/05/2018 10:10

I think people are a bit pissed off about a bullshit campaign suggesting that MN is an unmoderated free-for-all platform for hate, when clearly there is a lot of support offered here (as evidenced by the dearmumsnet thread), and there is no more 'hate' here than offered up on other SM platforms (Insta included).
