Woman went into my cubicle and locked the door while I showered

I can’t decide who was BU in this case. I was changing in a cubicle and had all of my belingings in there - as most do at my gym. I went off to the shower (quick shower!) and when I went back I found the door locked! I knocked on the door and a quite stroppy woman opened it reluctantly and said ‘let me get my trousers on.’ All she said to me was ‘I have a baby here.’ When she eventually came out fully dressed she went over to a bench where she had all of her belongings spread out and gave me daggers looks when I went in to change.
Who was BU?

She was. She sounds a bit unusual/touched/entitled (delete as you will).

Hercules12 · 20/04/2018 15:23

You were. I hate it when people hog cubicles.

Doyoumind · 20/04/2018 15:23

She was. No doubt about it.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 20/04/2018 15:24

You were. You can’t hog cubicles by leaving your stuff in them whilst you aren’t using it. For all she knew you could have been off in the Gym or sauna or swimming pool. Use the lockers for your stuff!

GhostedDad · 20/04/2018 15:24

I believe the etiquette is to shower first and then retrieve your belongings from the locker. At least she just pinched your cubicle and not all your stuff ;)

Wolfiefan · 20/04/2018 15:24

If you were hogging the last cubicle then you were very unreasonable.

At my gym there are only 2 cubicles and a large open plan changing area - I am not sure how many cubicles yours has but at my gym, I think it would be unreasonable to take one of the 2 whilst in shower as there may be people in shower who would like to use a cubicle but haven't "reserved" it. Local swimming pool has hundreds of cubicles and in those circumstances, then she would be unreasonable to take yours.

MaryShelley1818 · 20/04/2018 15:25

Yes - shower first and then retrieve your belongings and grab a cubicle. YABU.

bonbonlavie · 20/04/2018 15:26

You both were.

I think I'd have showered and then retrieved my belongings and headed to a charging room.

However, she sounds a bit strange. I wouldn't go near anyone else's belongings.

How many cubicles were there and how many were free?

rosetintedview · 20/04/2018 15:26

I've never been to a gym where it was acceptable to reserve a cubicle while you bugger off for a shower. But then I'd never lock myself in a cubicle that was obviously full of someone else's stuff!

I think she was BU.

AGreatBigPonk · 20/04/2018 15:26

Was it a cubicle with baby change?

umpireStrikesBack · 20/04/2018 15:27

She was... I think.

Depending on how quick your quick shower was and if there were other empty cubicles. I would get annoyed if someone had 'reserved' one but even though I'm pretty bold, I don't think I'd go in and use it.

Why was there a baby at the gym though? Swimming pool? Surely a cubicle made keeping the baby safe and getting changed quite difficult.

Single sex or mixed changing? I'm the Queen of a lightening-quick change in most scenarios so tend to stand at the bench anyway.

PattiStanger · 20/04/2018 15:27

You were, no one should leave their belongings in a cubicle except maybe if you're changing with a child and they have an emergency

thecatsthecats · 20/04/2018 15:27

I can't quite work out why you had your stuff out if you weren't yet showered?

If it was - get your stuff in cubicle - go shower - come back and dress in cubicle - I think YA a bit U.

I always just leave my stuff in a locker, only taking out the bits for the shower then taking the rest out after. I'd feel selfish using up a cubicle I wasn't actually using.

She was U to though, because I wouldn't use even a selfishly appropriated cubicle. And of course someone who is in a cubicle wants their clothes on before coming out of it! (it's a naked free for all at my gym though)

WeAllHaveWings · 20/04/2018 15:28

Why was the woman wrong? The OP reserved a cubicle, so no one else could use it, while she went off for a shower?

I assume the place was busy or the woman would have used an completely empty cubicle. OP was unreasonable.

You were. You shouldn’t hog a cubicle when you’re not in it. Im assuming there weren’t other free cubicles or she would have used it. If there were free cubicles she was being a twunt.

N2986 · 20/04/2018 15:31

Both unreasonable here. You can't reserve cubicles but equally you can't pinch one with someones stuff in.

Shadow666 · 20/04/2018 15:32

I think you were too. Reserving cubicles while you shower is really rude and inconsiderate.

CottonSock · 20/04/2018 15:33

You were, esp if it had a baby changing table in

Atticusss · 20/04/2018 15:33

Depends. If there were other free cubicles she was being unreasonable, if not, you were.

In my local swimming pool there is only one family changing room. It is still quite small but the only one that has a changing table in. Every time I go someone without a baby is in there and it boils my piss. Last time, someone had their teenaged daughter reserving it while they were in the queue paying. We had got to the pool early, and were first in line and still couldn't use it. I asked the girl if her mother had a baby at least, and she said yes. Turns out their baby was about 7 Hmm. Sorry, that rant just slipped out, but that experience makes me wonder if you had the baby changing cubicle.

DailyWailEatsSnails · 20/04/2018 15:33

Were there plenty other cubicles available, was this a designated family cubicle?

MabelDidIt · 20/04/2018 15:34

You get your shower stuff from your locker, have a shower then go and get rest of gear and find a cubicle. You wbu for putting your stuff out like you'd do at home, she wbu for using it with someones stuff in it, but maybe she gets tired of cubicle hoggers.

MrsFantastic · 20/04/2018 15:35

You were. I've known people leave their stuff in the cubicles for the whole of their child's swimming lesson so they have one for later. It's extremely selfish.

At our swimming pool the staff say that they collect the items and put it in Lost Property. I wish they'd do that more often.

I had a row with a woman about this once, because I went in and used a cubicle she considered her own because she'd "reserved" it with her clothes.
