Woman went into my cubicle and locked the door while I showered

I can’t decide who was BU in this case. I was changing in a cubicle and had all of my belingings in there - as most do at my gym. I went off to the shower (quick shower!) and when I went back I found the door locked! I knocked on the door and a quite stroppy woman opened it reluctantly and said ‘let me get my trousers on.’ All she said to me was ‘I have a baby here.’ When she eventually came out fully dressed she went over to a bench where she had all of her belongings spread out and gave me daggers looks when I went in to change.
Who was BU?

YABU for having hogged the cubicle.

She was rude/weird, but perfectly reasonable to use an unoccupied cubicle.

Jaxhog · 20/04/2018 15:57

Yes - shower first and then retrieve your belongings and grab a cubicle. YABU.
Although I wouldn't use a cubicle with someone else's stuff in it.

PinkCalluna · 20/04/2018 15:58

YABU it’s rude to hog a cubical that you aren’t using. You’d get very short shrift at any gym I’ve ever used.

Collect your belongings from your locker after your shower.

Mightymucks · 20/04/2018 16:00

YABU. This drives me mad. Pricks at swimming do it in the big cubiclearly. I just go in anyway. They’re like ‘but I have a large family’. Yeah so do I.

OliviaStabler · 20/04/2018 16:08

I would say you were both unreasonable. If there are only a few cubicles then you should not hog one while not using it. At the same time she was out of order using it when someone's belongings were already in there.

Etiquette at my last gym was to shower then get your items out of your locker and nab a cubicle.

Saracen · 20/04/2018 16:16

YABU. But ideally she should have dumped your stuff outside the cubicle so you could get it more easily and if any of your dry clothes happened to fall in a puddle then maybe you'd learn not to hog cubicles.

BoomBoomsCousin · 20/04/2018 16:20

If there are plenty of free cubicles she WBVU. If there aren't enough cubicles for people when they need them I think YABU to keep your belongings in one while you shower. But this is really a matter of local custom - if hogging cubicles while you shower is accepted practice and the management have made no effort to encourage a different approach YANBU, though I have sympathy for the woman with the baby.

camelliasinensis · 20/04/2018 16:20

You both were.
You were for hogging the cubicle.
She was for barging in.

Two wrongs don't make a right

paxillin · 20/04/2018 16:29

Hogging anything you aren't currently using is cheeky unless there are loads. So you were U unless there were plenty of equally good cubicles (big enough for baby), in which case she was U.

chickenpoxy189 · 20/04/2018 16:31

YABU. You should never leave stuff in a cubicle you’re not currently using. It’s the height of bad manners and v selfish.

Baby

People never do it twice

eggsandchips · 20/04/2018 16:34

She was rude but you shouldn't have hogged the cubicle.

GabriellaMontez · 20/04/2018 16:36

Yabu. You can't expect to reserve a cubicle while she needs one.

DisturblinglyOrangeScrambleEgg · 20/04/2018 16:38

Our leisure centre picks up all the belongings of the bloggers and puts them in reception.

When some people started doing this at the kids swimming lessons, I used to take the clothes out and put them on one of the benches - they would leave their stuff in one of the 3 cubicles for the whole lesson!

I had a shy kid who was embarrassed at the thought of changing in public, and I wasn't going to force him when there was a cubicle only occupied by someone else's clothes.

YWBU - and I would have moved your stuff out.

Mivery · 20/04/2018 16:43

Sounds like neither of you was really properly following gym etiquette.

AlonsoTigerHeart · 20/04/2018 16:44

Hoggers not bloggers

Ceirrno · 20/04/2018 16:46

Both unreasonable... Sorry

NerrSnerr · 20/04/2018 16:47

I agree with the majority, you shower first and then find a locker.

NerrSnerr · 20/04/2018 16:48

I mean cubicle of course!

Love51 · 20/04/2018 16:55

In her shoes I would have removed your stuff rather than held it hostage. I'd think you were very selfish (although in reality you were probably just thoughtless!)

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 20/04/2018 17:02

I don't like them either Danny, hence I don't go to hotels.

I'm the same, but that is akin to what the OP done by 'claiming' her cubicle. Totally unreasonable.

CluedoAddict · 20/04/2018 17:03

You were. You only take a cubicle after showering. Good on her I say.

mostdays · 20/04/2018 17:06

You were, it's not fair to 'reserve' a cubicle with all your stuff and go off for a shower (even a quick one).

Namechangetempissue · 20/04/2018 17:08

YABU. As others have said, you shower first, then get your things, you can't just leave all your stuff and expect others to know you are only going to be 5 minutes. You could have gone for a swim or be in the gym.
Was it a family style cubicle with a baby table/pull down area? If so it is doubly selfish to have left it with all your stuff in.

Beeziekn33ze · 20/04/2018 17:10

YABU Shower first.
