Woman went into my cubicle and locked the door while I showered

I can’t decide who was BU in this case. I was changing in a cubicle and had all of my belingings in there - as most do at my gym. I went off to the shower (quick shower!) and when I went back I found the door locked! I knocked on the door and a quite stroppy woman opened it reluctantly and said ‘let me get my trousers on.’ All she said to me was ‘I have a baby here.’ When she eventually came out fully dressed she went over to a bench where she had all of her belongings spread out and gave me daggers looks when I went in to change.
Who was BU?

If there were other cubicles then she was being weird.

If you hogged the last one (or the only one with baby changing facilities) then you were rude.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 20/04/2018 15:36

You can use a cubicle with someone’s stuff in if there are no others free. You’d be a right mug to stand around dripping outside an empty cubicle waiting for selfish sarah to come back and change.

Springtrolls · 20/04/2018 15:36

We have one cubicle in the gym. I would have done the same as the other woman and still used the cubicle. I don't know where you are when you will be back and I might be going to a lesson, not just a general work out.

Floralnomad · 20/04/2018 15:36

YABU , you shouldn’t take up a cubicle before you are ready to actually use it .

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 20/04/2018 15:37

What do you think of people who get up early and put their towels on sunbeds round the pool OP?

HunterHearstHelmsley · 20/04/2018 15:37

Someone once tried to nab my cubicle when I'd forgotten something and went to grab it from my locker. I went in too and she left eventually 😂

There's only four cubicles at my gym so they're not bagsied pre shower. If they are, peoples stuff normally just gets put on the floor outside the cubicle door.

Springtrolls · 20/04/2018 15:38

I don't like them either Danny, hence I don't go to hotels.

LouHotel · 20/04/2018 15:38

YABU.

If it was the only cubicle with a changing mat for a baby then you were very unreasonable.

JessicaJonesJacket · 20/04/2018 15:39

You were. You can't reserve cubicles. You should shower, then get your items from your locker, then find a cubicle. It is the law

Heismyopendoor · 20/04/2018 15:40

mrs that used to drive me insane!! At the pool my DS went to parents would put their kids stuff in a cubicle 10 minutes before the lesson finished. Which then meant that the people waiting to go in, arriving 10 minutes or so beforehand to get changed and be ready, then had no where to get changed. The other kids still had time left in their lesson and to get a shower! Drove me crazy and I would just take me DS into one with clothes as there was no other choice!

OP, if there were no other cubicles available or you were in a baby one, then YABU.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 20/04/2018 15:40

Sorry OP but you were. It's cheeky to hog the cubicle whilst you bugger off for a shower.

ferrier · 20/04/2018 15:41

It's really interesting (and just a bit confusing) that in MN world it's not OK to reserve a gym cubicle but it is OK to reserve a table in a cafe.

Ellendegeneres · 20/04/2018 15:42

You were imo. Used to do my head in when people having finished (or still in) the fitness class would make it so none of the 3 changing cubicles were free by putting their stuff in there when they clearly aren’t ready to use it. I took the stuff out and put it in main area. Got ‘confronted’ a few times and told them they can’t hold a cubicle. More often than not though, I left and no sign of the owners

Juells · 20/04/2018 15:43

it is OK to reserve a table in a cafe.

I've seen that being complained about, and quite recently too.

Thethingswedoforlove · 20/04/2018 15:46

Ywbu. I would have moved your stuff out of the cubicle. Why do people think it is ok to hog it when they are not using it?

amusedbush · 20/04/2018 15:46

it is OK to reserve a table in a cafe.

No, it's usually a pretty even split on that issue.

hmcAsWas · 20/04/2018 15:48

YABU - don't 'bag' a cubicle with your stuff whilst you go off and shower

Janniohlosty123 · 20/04/2018 15:49

YABU

hibbledibble · 20/04/2018 15:49

You both were unreasonable.

You shouldn't have used your clothes to reserve an empty cubicle.

She shouldn't have gone in with your belongings everywhere

Springtrolls · 20/04/2018 15:49

Cafe it depends. I go to a few that require you to find a seat first, the only thing you walk away with is drinks, everything else is brought to you.

Shadow666 · 20/04/2018 15:50

I have no qualms about dumping my kids and bag down at a table while I go and order at a cafe. I wouldn’t dump my kids and stuff in a cubicle while I go and shower at a pool. Completely different situations.

TodayImThisName · 20/04/2018 15:51

I think we need a plan.😉
It sounds like you were possibly both being unreasonable but it depends on how many other free cubicle there were.

lanbury · 20/04/2018 15:51

Sorry, I think you were. I put it in the same catagory as those people who load their supermarket shop onto the conveyor and then disappear to finish their shopping!

Changebagsandgladrags · 20/04/2018 15:53

People huff and puff about it at our pool. Yes it's unreasonable to hog a changing room.

Last time we got the boys from their lesson. Found cubicles, got all their clothes. Then DS2 said he needed the toilet. Well I'm buggered if I'm going to vacate the cubicle while he pees for what? 1 minute. Anyway a woman came past and started huffing and puffing about cubicle hogging...

BewareOfDragons · 20/04/2018 15:53

You were very, very, very unreasonable.

I hate cubicle hogs at pools and gymns. You don't get to 'save' them for when you want them with clothes. Lots of people need them while you're working out/swimming/showering ... selfish asshole behaviour to leave all your shit in there while you're doing those things.

But yes, she should have moved your stuff out to the bench and then used the cubicle.
