Parents having a favourite child

So who watched morning tv with the mother who was saying she has a favourite child and made no secret of it to her other children?
It was like she was almost proud to be saying it.
I know someone who has a favourite child ,that child is now a 40 something adult but still clearly the favourite even though her mother denies having favourites but it’s crystal clear .

My in laws so obviously favour their boys over girls (big family). Pretty horrible to see as it is fairly obvious. The careers of their adult boys matter far more, even though two of their adult girls are breadwinners for their family.

My PIL definitely favour DH’s sister/neice though they will insist they don’t. Hmm SIL is the youngest and only girl so is thoroughly spoilt, like DN who is an only child. We try and spend as little time with them, as we can get away with. Trouble is, our kids are getting to the age where they can see the favouritism and have mentioned it to us a few times. One example: at Christmas, DN got expensive makeup (Naked etc) and clothes. Our DD’s got clothes from Primark and some smellie sets from m&s you’d give your nan. The girls are all young teenagers so see all the stuff being posted on social media. Confused
