I have the most stupid DH on MN

DH cooked dinner tonight and had some sausages on his plate along with dinner. I commented on how strong they smelled and asked where he got them. He laughed and said “from the bin”.
Last night I was checking the fridge and at the back found a pack of leek sausages dated April 1st...the pack had swelled right up and bubbles were oozing out the side, so I threw them out. These are what he’s just eaten!
Now he burping away and I can’t believe he’s that thick!
AIBU to make him sleep with a bucket tonight Angry

My DH might well do similar. He once cooked & ate salmon fillets that were a week over date, in a swollen packet and all stinky/slimy. The smell of them cooking literally made me heave.

He had no ill effects whatsoever.

I, on the other hand, could get food poisoning from a prawn that just looked at me a bit funny.

Some people seem to have an immunity to such bugs. The dirty mingers.

happychange · 06/04/2018 20:59

But... why????

littlebillie · 06/04/2018 20:59

I'm going to worry now, I hope you are okay as if he devils ecoli or salmonella your family is st risk too 💐

halfwitpicker · 06/04/2018 20:59

He'll be rough as a dog tomorrow

Threefaries · 06/04/2018 21:00

Oh my goodness, I remember the fatball thread!

Why oh why??? He's going to suffer.

Thistlebelle · 06/04/2018 21:01

I’d give him not one single bit of sympathy if he’s ill. I wouldn’t be inclined to look after him in any way either.

TalkFastThinkSlow · 06/04/2018 21:01

And I thought DP was an idiot for soaking clothes in washing up liquid Grin

IfYouDontImagineNothingHappens · 06/04/2018 21:01

Ugggghh no. Did he not see the date?

TwitterQueen1 · 06/04/2018 21:01

I’ve seen MIL cook bolognese on a Saturday morning and leave it in the pot on the hob until Sunday (I refused to eat it btw)

there is nothing wrong with this OP. Has it occurred to you that she has probably been doing this for decades without anyone suffering any consequences?

Out of date sausages aside, I simply don't understand why your OP took stuff out of the bin! This is truly bizarre and weird.

soupforbrains · 06/04/2018 21:02

I'm place marking because I'm horribly fascinated for updates on his well-being.

I am a bit of a use by date stretcher but the swollen pack is a telltale sign and the 12 hours+ at room temperature in the bin is going to have meant lovely lovely amounts of bacteria BOAK Envy

RidingWindhorses · 06/04/2018 21:02

My dad would have done the same thing. In fact my dad would be proud of him.

Don't you know there's a war on?

diddl · 06/04/2018 21:03

"he pack had swelled right up and bubbles were oozing out the side, "

Bleurgh!

I might risk something a couple of days over that looked & smelt OK-( & hadn't overnighted in the bin), but the above-oh dear.

AnnieAnoniMouser · 06/04/2018 21:03

What a fucking idiot.

Make him put any regular medication he takes into a bag & pack an overnight bag (in case he has to go to the hospital, tempting though it is to make him sleep in the garden).

Make him go and get the wrapping & label etc and put it in a bag, it might be best to take it with him to the hospital later if he has to go, so they can see what he ate.

Make him cover the carpet between your bed & bathroom with old towels and take a bucket to bed & make sure there’s plenty of toilet paper.

The only thing that would make me allow him to sleep in the same bed tonight is that I wouldn’t want his dead body in my conscience. He might get very ill in the night.

Some people have the constitution of an Ox, so he might get lucky, or he might end up seriously ill in hospital. I cannot believe he did several somethings that are so utterly fucking stupid. Out of date, binned food, 12 hours in the bin, all day in a lunch box then reheated tonight. What the actual fuck was he thinking?

flowerslemonade · 06/04/2018 21:03

Will you update to let us know how he is?

tracymars · 06/04/2018 21:03

That is awful. I can be a bit lenient on use by dates if it's only one or 2 days. I don't believe the food suddenly goes off at midnight on the use by date. But they looked dodgy. The packet had swelled up which is a clear sign they are dodgy. And they had been in the bin, unrefridgerated. Your DH is going to be feeling a bit ill. Hope you have 2 toilets because one is going to be in constant use and will smell very bad

SaucyJane · 06/04/2018 21:05

IfYouDont - esp as the date was 1 April!!!

64BooLane · 06/04/2018 21:05

Oh wow. I need to hear how this goes

AornisHades · 06/04/2018 21:05

Revoltingly fascinating.
I'm glad I had a veggie dinner.

Kittykat93 · 06/04/2018 21:06

Jesus that's bad. I hope he doesn't get seriously ill but maybe if he gets a dodgy stomach he might learn his lesson to not do this again !!

Betsy86 · 06/04/2018 21:06

Literally reading this like 😲

halfwitpicker · 06/04/2018 21:06

And you're right : how dumb is he?

Historydweeb · 06/04/2018 21:08

Following this thread with morbid curiosity interest Hmm

RidingWindhorses · 06/04/2018 21:08

My dad once ate off crab and we all thought he would finally get his comeuppance but he was completely fine. So no OP's DH may well have no discomfort at all.

diddl · 06/04/2018 21:09

"And I thought DP was an idiot for soaking clothes in washing up liquid "

I do that sometimes-had no idea it was idiotic!

Queenio24 · 06/04/2018 21:09

Oh wow, it's going to be coming out of both ends 🤢
