To have ran after the delivery bloke in my dressing gown?

So most Friday night's my sister and BIL and my ex H will come round for a takeaway/tipple.

We usually go to the same place each time because it's nice food, quick delivery etc.

BIL or Ex H answers the door whilst we get the plates. It's always same driver in red cavalier.

Can always hear BIL/exHmaking small talk, weather, busy? Etc

So they haven't been for a few weeks so me and DP decide to order. My DP is a woman.

Food arrives and door opens, she says hello, thankyou, is there drinks? And thanks goodnight.

All silence besides that, I thought it must have been my hearing but when she walks in I said "did he reply to you?"
She says 'no. He ignored me completely. Wouldn't even look at me

So I ran out Blush and asked why he felt it acceptable to completely ignore a customer when she was talking to him and to not even say you're welcome when thanked. First he pretended he couldn't hear me then pretended he didn't speak english. I know he does because we've ordered from them for over a year!

He half mumbled 'sorry' (whilst looking through receipts Hmm and wound the window up and drove off.

This was last night. I was going to call the shop but thought nothing would be done.

But AIBU to he annoyed that he would have a full convo with BIL and DH but wouldnt even look at my girlfriend?

Overreaction much? Guy was maybe shy round women?

JediStoleMyBike · 04/04/2018 18:21

YANBU to be annoyed but I think running out in your dressing gown to confront was a bit much! Maybe order from somewhere else in future if he was so rude, vote with your feet. Call the shop too and explain why maybe?

BrutusMcDogface · 04/04/2018 18:22

In the nicest possible way: people can be idiots. Don't stress over it.

PlasticWatch · 04/04/2018 18:23

I can't believe you actually ran after him 😂 he hasn't been delivering to your dp for a year has he? So dosent know her as well as the others? Oh wow I can't believe you ran out!

SauvignonBlanche · 04/04/2018 18:23

Err yes, YWBU.

jaseyraex · 04/04/2018 18:24

Hmm massive over reaction imo. So what he didn't engage? Maybe his day was shit and he didn't want a conversation? He delivered your food, job done. You're reading between the non existent lines of him engaging in conversation with a man but not a woman.

crazycatgal · 04/04/2018 18:25

Just order from a different place next time.

UncleNugget · 04/04/2018 18:25

What a bizarre reaction.

Avasarala · 04/04/2018 18:26

Maybe he has some social anxiety around people of the opposite sex and is doing the best he can.

Not the best job for him to be in, but what's he meant to do, just not work?

I sometimes only say "cheers, thanks" to the driver when he hands over food and then my change so he probably manages quite well by not really chatting to people. If it is a social anxiety thing.

Mmmboppp · 04/04/2018 18:26

She asked him direct questions and said hello, thankyou etc.

Surely it's just so rude to completely ignore someone when they talk to you? If he can't reply 'hello' to a customer then maybe a delivery driver isn't the best job for him?

It's the fact he pretended he couldn't speak English
And he is not shy. He was very 'cocky' when I asked him and was smirking as he rolled the window up

I think you over reacted. For all you know he may have been having a rough evening, been feeling unwell, who knows, but I'm not sure you improved the situation by ranting in your dressing gown, not very dignified tbh.

Amomentofbeauty · 04/04/2018 18:28

Huge over reaction. Poor guy.

Mmmboppp · 04/04/2018 18:28

I got the impression he just had a problem with women tbh and if he can take the time to say hello to 2 seperate blokes with no issues he can say hello to my DP. I'm sick of blokes thinking they can treat women like 2nd class citizens.

ilovesooty · 04/04/2018 18:29

Oh for goodness sake. Ridiculous over reaction.

FrolickingForklift · 04/04/2018 18:33

Well you've sure done women a great service. Running after a delivery driver that you, despite him visiting numerous times before, have never made the effort to talk to previously. Well done(!)

UncleNugget · 04/04/2018 18:34

Oh FFS.

stopbeingabloodyvictim · 04/04/2018 18:36

Did he deliver more chips for your shoulder

tygr · 04/04/2018 18:37

Was she also in a dressing gown? Maybe he felt embarrassed? I'm always answering the door to delivery men in my pyjamas but I know it's not ideal.

Ah, here we go.

CadyHeron · 04/04/2018 18:40

How the eff does a random delivery guy know you're gay and so decides not to talk to you?! Grin
You are so reading all kinds into what sounds like a completely normal encounter.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 04/04/2018 18:41

Sounds like you were expecting an issue and jumped at the chance when it appeared.

BrutusMcDogface · 04/04/2018 18:41

"Discontempt" ?!
