Surprisingly good cheap products.

Posting for traffic.

I've recently got a few bits online that people have recommended for being cheap but really good for what they are. Latest purchases are a really good liquid eyeliner from Amazon for £0.64 and a baby bath seat that should be £20 but was £9.99 inc delivery!

So out of curiosity and wanting to get some stuff has anyone got any recommendations of surprisingly good products they've bought really cheaply?

Not asking for anything particular just anything that comes to mind.

Water softener salt in the dishwasher instead of dishwasher salt.

A 25kg sack is around a tenner and literally lasts forever. Works just as well as deicing salt.

Only difference is that it doesn't come in those little balls like dw salt

I quite enjoy messing about with paper and have found that the cheap paper cutting dies from China cut as well as the more expensive ones. End up paying £1 or £2 for each die and get free shipping but you do have to wait almost a month for them to arrive. Worth it though. Available on ebay and amazon.

Follyfoot · 15/04/2018 15:23

Magic sponges. Dead cheap and clean everything.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 15/04/2018 16:12

cheap paper cutting dies from China

I love a bargain, but I avoid the imported cheap stuff from China. Lead in everyday products is an issue for me.

I want to try die cutting though! Grin

Just went to Aldi but they didn’t have any make up.

roses2 · 16/04/2018 20:57

Someone earlier on mentioned Amazon Mama Bear baby wipes.

I also buy these and they are fantastic! So moist and the package keeps them fresh.

@mummyrabbitpeppapig
I like the banana boat range

I prefer this spf 50 for me. It has a 'powder' texture,so gloopy when it goes on, but feels silky when it has sunk in

My kids prefer the pink spray bottle which usually half price in Tesco (not at the moment though). It doesn't make their eczema flare up like some.

mummyrabbitpeppapig · 19/04/2018 23:13

Thank you!

Mummy if it's effectiveness you're concerned about, the supermarket own brands usually do very well in Which? type tests and often have higher star ratings for UV protection than brands like Nivea or Ambre. Solair.

I have very pale skin and burn easily. I holiday in the Med and always use Asda, Aldi or Morrisons own brand because that's the supermarkets l go to most often and never burn.

With suncream the most important thing is to apply enough and reapply a couple of times throughout the day. Cheap suncream can actually be better in this respect because people are less concerned about how much it is costing to slap it on generously and frequently.

I just bought the horse shampoo because of this this thread. —I’m off to the pet shop later to find something for my feet—

starkid · 20/04/2018 08:47

I used the horse shampoo, and my hair did actually squeak with cleanliness afterwards, but apart from that didn't really do anything magnificent to it... have gone back to my normal stuff now

TorviBrightspear · 20/04/2018 09:33

Facial oils, well these are just oils packaged up with a boosted price. You will find loads of recipes online to make your own, and for about £15, I bought ingredients 2 years ago and only just running out. Almond or jojoba oils make good bases and you can then add your own variations.

I mean, I just looked up the ingredients for the boots facial oil. All of them you can buy in larger quantities and make your own. They are all oils or plant extracts used for scent reasons, and at the current offer price of £7.66 for 25ml, Boots are laughing all the way to the bank.

FunkSoulSister · 20/04/2018 09:48

Ahhhhh stop with horse shampoo!!! Yes, its full of silcones and makes your hair feel all lovely and thats why everyones like "oh its amazing!"
Then you end up with loads of silicone build up, making your hair brittle in the end and snap. I couldnt believe Sainsburys started selling it recently! Absolute crap!

TorviBrightspear · 20/04/2018 10:03

I need to use shampoos that don't contain SLS or similar, etc, and find it really hard to get stuff that isn't pricy. Any ideas gratefully received, especially now that Sainsbury's seems to have stopped selling the happy days range.

FunkSoulSister · 20/04/2018 10:17

Happy Days was amazing!!! :(

TravellingFleet · 20/04/2018 17:49

Well my horsey hair looks great, and I will allow no neigh-sayers.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 20/04/2018 22:15

Horsey hair combined with Tesco £1 serum is proving a winning combination for my unruly grey hairs that have a life of their own and is giving a lovely shine to the non-greys.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 20/04/2018 22:17

PS. pass me a sugar lump. Grin

mummyrabbitpeppapig · 20/04/2018 23:12

*Barbara

Do the supermarket brands do a sensitive or hypoallergenic suncream? I'm fair and burn v v easily and allergic to lots of suncream ( apart from Nivea and Zoltan.....)
Am.i asking too.much? Grin

mummyrabbitpeppapig · 20/04/2018 23:13

Soltan!

Fourmagpies · 21/04/2018 12:19

mummyrabbit we were looking at suncream in Sainsburys yesterday and noticed they have quite a wide range of own brand for sensitive skin.

BarbaraofSevillle · 21/04/2018 13:30

Was in Wilkinsons this morning and they had high factor own brand sensitive skin sun cream. We've had it from Morrisons before, but I suspect all the supermarkets do it.

Suncream is definitely one of those items where branded isn't better and you don't get what you pay for.

Supermarkets own brand is as good, if not better.
