To ask how much you are paying for your Summer holiday?

How much do you/are you paying for your Summer holiday? What will you be doing? Abroad, UK, camping or hotel or cottage etc. How long for?

I just want to know if my holidays are very expensive.

The last few years we've been going to the same place and renting fab little cottages, the location is ideal for us and the places we've rented have been lovely, home from home.

A few people have been shocked at how much we've paid but I think they are kidding themselves to think you'd get equivalent in the school holidays for any less.

Approx £500 for a 2 bed cottage for a mid-August week in Wales. Middle of nowhere with no WiFi or Xbox ... Can't wait!

KERALA1 · 03/04/2018 23:13

Two weeks in Spain luxury apartment by beach pools etc £1800 4 people 2 weeks. House swapping our house so flights and car hire only. Usually swap cars which would bring it down to £1200.

goodbyestranger · 03/04/2018 23:27

bobbita I'd need a proper holiday to recover from making a fort indoors out of bedding and cooking food together with story time etc etc. Sounds grim. My DC would have rebelled. A really expensive holiday it would need to be too.

bellsbuss · 03/04/2018 23:31

6k for a week in Majorca in Sept , 2 adults 4 children. Would normally go in July / August but the price was ridiculous

bobbita · 03/04/2018 23:37

@good
Well you know each to their own but I was just giving an alternative idea for people who still want to create special memories with their kids but can't afford an expensive holiday. I'm sure there are lots of other ideas I've made a thread which I'm hoping people will put some good ideas on.

Lazinganddazing · 03/04/2018 23:54

£900 Lanzarote at the end of May. 4 people all inclusive 4* for 1 week - 2 adults, 1 child, 1 baby. Can not wait. Might also do centre parcs this year but it’s got so expensive I’m now looking into ones in Europe as it’s looking like it’s cheaper than UK (including travel)

puffylovett · 04/04/2018 00:01

£375 for a caravan in south of France end of August, can’t wait Grin
Plus travel (driving, eurotunnel and fuel)
And spends.

liz70 · 04/04/2018 00:44

£3,200 for 18 days for five people, in July, taking the car on the 24 hour cruise ferry to Santander, staying one night each end in a guesthouse there, then 14 nights in a SC appartment in Commillas (north coast of Spain) in between. The appartment complex has an outdoor pool and paddling pool. Looking forward to it. Spring holiday (i.e. now) is 10 days in a 2 bedroom ( 4 - 6 berth) caravan on N. Yorkshire coast, cost £678.

Adversecamber22 · 04/04/2018 00:51

Cruise visiting five countries 7k for three of us. Will also stay in a hotel the night before.

Brokenbiscuit · 04/04/2018 00:54

Haven't booked yet, but we usually pay around £3000 - £3500 for a week somewhere in Europe. That would be in July, staying in nice hotels, typically paying for half board. Two adults and one older child. Could definitely do it cheaper, but I'm fussy about where I stay.

GrandTheftWalrus · 04/04/2018 00:55

Hopefully about £250 on the actual holiday. Just a wee caravan break for me, dp, and DD who will be 22 months.

Then probably about the same again on spending money.

It's not much but it's all we can afford. And it'll be nice to get away for a few days.

sameoldsame · 04/04/2018 00:56

150,000 for a villa in Antibes with a personal butler
Fuck me these threads are shit
They make everyone feel like crap, apart from the boasters
People who spend a lot wouldn’t bother posting
It’s like life in a cul de sac in Harpendon

GrandTheftWalrus · 04/04/2018 01:05

My last holiday with my ex husband was £2k to Mexico.

I'm more excited about the £500 caravan holiday with my partner and daughter.

EC22 · 04/04/2018 01:15

3.5k villa for 5 in Portugal for 1 week.

YellowBucket · 04/04/2018 02:29

We haven’t been able to afford a family holiday since the dc were 6 or so (over 10 years). For the last 5 years my parents have taken them away for a week within the UK. I’m eternally grateful.
They spend about £800 privately renting a cabin in August. We contribute what we can towards this.

Ted27 · 04/04/2018 02:43

9 nights in Wales and Brighton, me and one teen, between £55 - 65 per night inc breakfast Airbnb and YHAs

will probably spend about £100 on train fares (family and friends railcard)
plus a ' free ' week in Cornwall staying with friends - I contribute by paying for meal out for 6, ice creams/tea on the beach, pasties and picnic food, bottle of Pimms and some wine

Unsure123123 · 04/04/2018 02:47

About £1200 on holiday in France by ferry and driving, self catering. Then later in year city break for 4 days again about £1200. Both Airbnb accommodation. 2 adults, 2dc.

Juanbablo · 04/04/2018 02:51

Around £10,000. 2 adults, 3 DC's. 14 nights in Orlando. Price includes flights, car hire, villa, Disney, Universal and Kennedy Space Center tickets and spending money.

Thundercatshoooo · 04/04/2018 03:04

About £1600 ish for 3 weeks camping in France 2 adults and 2 kids under 2. The most expense is getting there for us £600 ferry plus a 800mile drive so petrol and tolls add up. Accomodation is pretty cheap though compared to hiring a villa etc about £25 a night. It's not for everyone but we absolutely love it, camping is great fun with kids Smile.

MaMisled · 04/04/2018 03:20

We've paid £380 for a large mobile home on a park in Wales mid June and £400 for the same but on a tiny private site in the Lake District end of July. Cheap as chips.

WorldWideWanderer · 04/04/2018 03:38

£4000, just for myself, but it's in a very difficult to reach (and remote) location in the very far north, not really luxury. Will be gone 10 days.
I live for my holidays and spend a great deal of money on them.... The most I have ever spent is 2 years ago, doing the whole of South America in a month for £8000. Probably wouldn't do it again though....

Myheartbelongsto · 04/04/2018 03:43

€435 adult and 3 kids, two weeks Tenerife

YimminiYoudar · 04/04/2018 05:09

£900 for 7 days in august self catering (with all mod cons) at a seaside location in the uk. Will probably double that once food, booze and daily activities are factored in.

I think a more useful thread would be to ask what percentage of the household total annual income gets spent on holidays. I'm not remotely surprised that some people on this thread are spending less than a third of what I do and some are spending more than triple - obviously also some families have an income of less than a third of what we do and some have an income more than triple - that's the nature of things and "cheap" and "expensive" are relative terms that depend on context.
