To ask how much you are paying for your Summer holiday?

How much do you/are you paying for your Summer holiday? What will you be doing? Abroad, UK, camping or hotel or cottage etc. How long for?

I just want to know if my holidays are very expensive.

The last few years we've been going to the same place and renting fab little cottages, the location is ideal for us and the places we've rented have been lovely, home from home.

A few people have been shocked at how much we've paid but I think they are kidding themselves to think you'd get equivalent in the school holidays for any less.

£3000 including flights apartment and car hire to Spain for two weeks in augast . Also about another £1500 spending money on water parks and eating out

Dogsmom · 03/04/2018 22:23

Our school doesn't impose fines for term time holidays so we're off to Cornwall for a week in July and paying £400 for 2 adults and 2 kids.

Amanduh · 03/04/2018 22:31

£900 to Spain 4th June all in for me, husband and Dc (1.5yo) all inclusive. Non school hols and having a pre school age dc drives the price down though. With First Choice. Gorgeous hotel and resort.

Lemons1571 · 03/04/2018 22:32

If the people who are questioning the cost of your holiday usually pay term time prices, then they may not have a clue about the cost of the same holiday in school hols. My colleagues pretty much keel over in shock when I tell them what we pay (£3-£4K for 10 days s/c in Spain or Greece in school summer hols 2 adults 3 kids and I book 16 months in advance to get those prices). But if you’re a couple holidaying in early June of course you can find something for £1,200, and paying 3 times as much sounds insane. I have yet to get through to them that no, I’m not doing it wrong, and yes, that is what it costs at the beginning of August!

Holidayaddict · 03/04/2018 22:33

Our holidays vary a lot in terms of type & cost....

This summer - 6k - 10 days at 4 star AI in Spain in school hols, 2 adults, 2 kids. Going with large family group so had to find something to please everyone.

Last summer we did a week in a 2 bed cottage in Northumberland for £700 (not including petrol, food, spends) - was lovely.

We also do at least one short UK break in a caravan for about £700 total via a newspaper promotion.

Ironically, some of our cheaper holidays have often been the most enjoyable. Oh well!

frankchickens · 03/04/2018 22:33

When did holidays become compulsory?

Festivecheeseandcrackers · 03/04/2018 22:34

Two adults, one toddler, south of France in a hotel for 7 nights plus two nights hotel to break up the journey = £1,000 plus spending. This is in June so not summer holidays.

Spoog1971xx · 03/04/2018 22:34

We bought a small holiday island where we go with friends 4 times a year. It's lovely apart from the anthrax

Festivecheeseandcrackers · 03/04/2018 22:34

I should add that that is including petrol, toll costs and ferry as we will drive.

Puffycat · 03/04/2018 22:36

average £12-15,000 2 weeks, 4 people in Europe mid August

CaviarAndCigarettes · 03/04/2018 22:36

Nothing this year. We have season passes to a local theme park and they'll have sleepovers at grandparents.

NerrSnerr · 03/04/2018 22:40

We've got 5 days in Butlins in June for about £700 including meal plan.

This thread has made me feel heartened about other affordable holidays (to us) as our eldest starts school this year so the prices are going to go up!

HundredMilesAnHour · 03/04/2018 22:41

£6k each (business class flights plus private villa/5* hotels) for 9 nights in Bali (Seminyak & Nusa Dua) and 2 nights in Doha in early July, for a close friend's wedding. I would much rather have spent the money on a trip I was planning to Australia but the wedding takes precedence (although it was a hard decision to make....I'm not a fan of Bali). The things we do for people we care about!

wizzywig · 03/04/2018 22:43

Last summer we spent £2k on flights and airbnbs in Sweden and Finland. 5 ppl (2 adults and 3 kids)

wizzywig · 03/04/2018 22:44

spoog don't worry about anthrax. I'm sure paracetamol would deal with that easily

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 03/04/2018 22:45

We go next week (not sure if that counts as a summer holiday) £3k lanzarote 2 adults 2 kids. All inclusive.
First year of being tied to school holidays, our holiday has easily doubled in priced compared to what we would normally pay Shock Hmm

Flisspaps · 03/04/2018 22:46

£509 for a caravan in Wales, 1 week, August.

Everything else I found was at least £800 so I'm wondering if we'll be missing a roof...or walls...Grin

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 03/04/2018 22:51

About 4K, villa in Greece for 4 for a week. (our portion, travelling with a larger group.)

1.5k, flights and hotel for 4 nights in Amsterdam for 4.

£400 1 night for 4 at Legoland Windsor.

£500 Eurostar and hotel for 2 to Paris.

£150 pitch fees for 3 nights camping for 4 in the UK.

£400 2 nights Alton towers for 4.

bobbita · 03/04/2018 22:55

Wowzer I'm shocked by how much people spend! But I think if you have the money and you want to enjoy it then that's up to you. Why not? Mine's just a baby but I have family in multiple countries so I just go and visit them normally so it's just the flights and some food. I do think kids will enjoy it just as much whatever it is as long as you make it fun. Camping in the garden or if you don't have one a cheap campsite could be an equally good option with games and story time and hot chocolate etc... I think festivals are magical for kids (and adults!) too and a great alternative.

whiteroseredrose · 03/04/2018 22:56

I'm shocked at how much people spend on holidays! This year we're staying with the in laws in Spain again for 10 days. Flights are costing £800 for 4 inc seats and priority boarding. Car hire is c.£300 to fit all six in. We'll buy food there, which costs about the same as here and probably eat out 2-3 times but it's much cheaper than here. We've also had a couple of real bargain trips to Rome and Florence this year costing about £500-600 in total for 4 for flights, seats and an apartment, in school holidays but off season.

Stormwhale · 03/04/2018 22:58

£6k for two weeks in Cyprus, but that includes the basic wedding package which was £1200. It's a 5* resort, all inclusive and we are going at the end of June, beginning of July.

bobbita · 03/04/2018 22:59

An even cheaper alternative would be to make a fun day/days with your kids and make a fort indoors together out of bedding... and have candles and fairy lights and cook food together with story time, hot chocolate, games. I think kids enjoy quality fun magical time wherever it may be.

Peanutbuttercups21 · 03/04/2018 22:59

We always just stay with family or friends (or they with us), never done AI

Mind boggles at other people's disposable income Grin

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 03/04/2018 23:04

Trip to skegness for £700 for 7 nights. Perks of early booking and taking use of vouchers and discounts.

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 03/04/2018 23:04

For 4 of us at butlins 😊
