To ask how much you are paying for your Summer holiday?

How much do you/are you paying for your Summer holiday? What will you be doing? Abroad, UK, camping or hotel or cottage etc. How long for?

I just want to know if my holidays are very expensive.

The last few years we've been going to the same place and renting fab little cottages, the location is ideal for us and the places we've rented have been lovely, home from home.

A few people have been shocked at how much we've paid but I think they are kidding themselves to think you'd get equivalent in the school holidays for any less.

£6,600 2 adults 2 teen/tween DC
Sardinia 2 weeks August

ShiftyMcGifty · 04/04/2018 08:31

Why do people open threads that they suspect will make them feel like shit, read pages of them and then post bitching and whining about how crap it makes them feel?
Confused

I like reading about where other people holiday and have bookmarked that France camping site already (I’d never do tents with my bad back so love the caravans shown).

MozzchopsThirty · 04/04/2018 08:31

@Mercison I get that the flights are expensive to the Balearics in summer so my question is why?
Why not go to China? Or US? Or Middle East? For the same or less(presuming you paid about £400 per person?

My Hong Kong flights were £321 direct

MozzchopsThirty · 04/04/2018 08:32

@Mercison that wasn't a dig about spending money either, you enjoy it, that's what holidays are for 😊

Vanessatiger · 04/04/2018 08:32

The DSS are late teenagers so count as adults, so they’ll get their own room in reaorts, hence accomodation costs doubled. And they also wanted to do more “exciting” things so activity costs surged!

Bearsinmotion · 04/04/2018 08:34

We are off to Scotland for 2 weeks, 4 adults and 2DC. Cottage is £1.3k for 2 week plus ~£200 for fuel and ferries.

Mari50 · 04/04/2018 08:35

We’re on our ‘summer’ holiday just now, 3 weeks in Australia camping- flights and vehicle hire (plus fuel costs) are about £3k plus about £1.5k spending money for myself and dd.

Mercison · 04/04/2018 08:36

Why not go to China? Or US? Or Middle East?

Confused

Because I don't want to go to any of those places. We have a week off and we can get to mallorca in a few hours.

zeebeedee · 04/04/2018 08:39

Nothing this year, we're staying home and working on the house/garden.

Last year we spent 1200 all in on a week in a flat in Devon. The year before we spent less than that on 2 weeks in a big house in Northern France!

MozzchopsThirty · 04/04/2018 08:39

That's fair enough @Mercison
Enjoy your hols 😊

Isadora2007 · 04/04/2018 08:40

Have to laugh at the usual moaners and whingers. It’s a thread titled clearly about the costs of going on holiday so why are you even clicking on it if you think it’s vulgar to talk money.
A PP was correct that a percentage of household income would also be relevant here as some people having a “small” holiday could actually be spending a lot more relatively than someone spending £10k plus.
FWIW we are going on our first holiday abroad as a couple (plus our two youngest kids) and we have been married over 10 years. So I don’t give a stuff what other people think of us spending £3500 to “only” go to the Balearics.

IceBearRocks · 04/04/2018 08:41

We are staying in a villa in Orlando for 2 weeks in June ...including upgraded car hire and flights and park tickets for all universal parks and sea world, Busch gardens etc for 14 days ...£4300.

tissuesosoft · 04/04/2018 08:43

7nights all inclusive first week of September in Playa Blanca, really lovely resort on the beach including flights and private transfers for two adults and toddler, paid £1200.

ReinettePompadour · 04/04/2018 08:47

UK break, 2 adults and 2 children, Monday- Friday at Center Parcs in July/August.

We take our own bikes so just have to pay for food which we buy on the way from the supermarket. We only eat out once so all in for the food, accommodation and activities we will probably spend around £1100.

Bbbbbbbb2017 · 04/04/2018 08:51

£1000 for disney land Paris for 4 nihhts/5 days. Adding half board and character meals has brought it up to 1500

1 adult and 2 children but one of the children is 2 so doesnt count for meal plans etc

Motoko · 04/04/2018 08:51

Dorset, mid May, self catering flat above the beach with a gorgeous view, £375.
Can't wait!

Middleoftheroad · 04/04/2018 08:58

Is anyone like me and struggles with more than a week?

I'd love to push the boat out for longer (no pun intended) but pathetically get homesick after more than a week!!!

Mercison · 04/04/2018 09:02

We prefer two separate weeks rather than one fortnight

LakieLady · 04/04/2018 09:04

We're just back from 10 days touring Devon and Cornwall in our motorhome. It cost us £200 in petrol and £300 in spending money (almost entirely meals and drinks out, and I'm mystified by how it's so little, as we had some fantastic meals). Our summer holiday will probably be about the same.

We belong to something called Britstops, where you can stay overnight for free at places that are members, mostly pubs and farm shops. We've stopped at some wonderful places, with terrific views and thoroughly enjoyed it, despite the weather being a bit shit. If we'd gone to sites and paid pitch fees, it would have been £150-200 more.

Highhorse1981 · 04/04/2018 09:10

Single mum two children

£3.3k 9 nights AI DR (already had)
£575 4 nights Bournemouth in the new amazing beach huts in August.

LakieLady · 04/04/2018 09:11

Why not go to China? Or US? Or Middle East?

I wouldn't go anywhere that has a dodgy record on human rights. That includes Turkey.

Highhorse1981 · 04/04/2018 09:12

LakieLady

Just you and partner?

£300 spending money for two people over 10 days in the UK mainly on dating out and drinks.

That’s £30 a day.

Wow!

Highhorse1981 · 04/04/2018 09:13

Motoko

Could you share please? Sounds lovely

Highhorse1981 · 04/04/2018 09:16

MozzchopsThirty

With children I’d choose centre parcs over Hong Kong without hesitation!!

HRTpatch · 04/04/2018 09:18

A week in New York for just me and DP....about £6000 I expect.
