To ask how much you are paying for your Summer holiday?

How much do you/are you paying for your Summer holiday? What will you be doing? Abroad, UK, camping or hotel or cottage etc. How long for?

I just want to know if my holidays are very expensive.

The last few years we've been going to the same place and renting fab little cottages, the location is ideal for us and the places we've rented have been lovely, home from home.

A few people have been shocked at how much we've paid but I think they are kidding themselves to think you'd get equivalent in the school holidays for any less.

No holiday this year as my husbands job is transferring him to the USA this summer. Hopefully he can take time later in the year so we can do some exploring.

kaytee87 · 05/04/2018 14:11

Just to bring the bragging caravan back down to the level of a lot of people's reality.

Op asked a factual question and people gave factual answers Hmm

kaytee87 · 05/04/2018 14:14

For £2k I would spend it on my house rather than a few weeks abroad. Don’t get it. Kids should be with family. Even in their teens.

I'm also spending money on my house this year, for some people it's not an either/or situation. What does 'kids should be with family mean'? My DS comes on all of our holidays Confused

Ted27 · 05/04/2018 14:22

I don't think anyone is particularly bragging, a quesion was asked and was answered.
We had a holiday abroad last year, I saved for it by putting £10 -20 from my weekly housekeeping money in a tin. I have a tin going for the next 'big' holiday - that might take me two years.
This year I need to do some house maintenance - so we are having a week in various youth hostels at around £50 a night for the two of us. Probably the same next year.

People's priorities are different and are at different stage in life.

I don't run a car so I can afford to save a bit each month towards holidays. I'm also 53 - I didn't really have holidays until my late 30s and have saved for big trips every three or fours years.

I will never be able to afford some of the holidays described here, but I don't begrudge them. I enjoy what I have

newsparklythings · 05/04/2018 14:30

£120 for me and dd to camp, plus camp food and day trips. Maybe £300 budget. UK south coast.

sausagedogsmakechipolatas · 05/04/2018 14:34

Visiting family in the UK, so £600 for a cottage for the week, next week not in the summer holidays as it’s too expensive then (and we are lucky enough to be moving house so every spare penny is going towards that.)

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 05/04/2018 14:34

We're doing 10 nights s/c in Barbados, it was £2400 for 4 of us which seemed like a bargain to us.

No ones bragging, the op asked a question. Should everyone make out how poor they are to make you feel better Confused

Fijisky · 05/04/2018 15:23

GingerFoxInAT0phat - that does sound like a bargain!

shazkiwi · 06/04/2018 19:43

We are staying in a 3 bed room caravan - good quality & fantastic beach site, in Cornwall school holidays £1100 per week. Can I ask those that are going overseas all inclusive: Are you all sleeping in 1 one room or do you have separate bedrooms & how far in advance did you book & who you booked through. We went to the Canaries last year but I think I could have got it cheaper & want to go again if I can get it cheaper.

waterlego6064 · 06/04/2018 19:59

I've just booked Eurotunnel and campsites for three weeks in France and Germany. There are 4 of us + dog + caravan. Cost so far = £1236.
Fuel cost will be around £200. Then whatever we spend on food and fun; which is not necessarily much because we spend a lot of time just mooching about in town squares or finding rivers to paddle in, and we self-cater or seek out bargain restaurants.

HairyToity · 06/04/2018 20:01

£600 for a week in a 3 bed cottage near the Welsh coast in July.

HairyToity · 06/04/2018 20:01

Spending money - no idea. We just go with the flow. Probably £300 with food.

iluvsummer · 06/04/2018 20:07

Week in holiday village Majorca end of May £2400, week in Tenerife end of August £1500 flights and £281 to pull timeshare out of uncles account. Me, dh, ds 7, dd 2, dd 6 months

Atticusss · 06/04/2018 20:09

Family of 5, 11 days all inclusive beach villa with water park, inc flights £1,700. I think that's about 1k cheaper than are usual similar holidays.

Atticusss · 06/04/2018 20:09

School summer holidays I forgot to say.

newterritories · 06/04/2018 20:13

waterlego6064 · 06/04/2018 20:15

DrCoconut · 06/04/2018 20:17

The way it's looking at the moment it will be £0 for 6 weeks at hotel chez moi Grin

4yoniD · 06/04/2018 20:21
