To think Mumsnet is OBSESSED

I used to read Mumsnet because it was a lot of clever, funny women talking about stuff I was interested in, but it's become a one issue forum. It's exhausting.

You don't even have to have GCSE science to know the difference between a man and a woman. Most three year olds could tell you.

I am enjoying the irony of science deniers frothing about made up arguments though Grin

NFATR · 23/03/2018 10:22

he 'FACTS FACTS FACTS!!' that all you GCSE Science grads love

How dare we like FACTS? Instead of your lies you mean?

Enjoy peddling strawman arguments and made up gubbins about a minority of people

That would be you.

We will be in the history books, along with the suffregettes, women of greenham common etc....as the women standing up against men trying to take their rights from them.
Shame you're on the wrong side of this one, but don't take it out on the rest if us!

Whizbang · 23/03/2018 10:22

But Kylie, all that you’re last post doesn’t is try to shut me down. I’m fucking obsessed apparently and making straw man arguments.

I’m not. I asked you a simple question and you just rant in return. Can you give me a factual answer please? Why are you so angry with me for wanting to discuss this? Am I not allowed? Why is my opinion secondary to yours?

I’d really appreciate a straight answer rather than being shouted down.

lubeybooby · 23/03/2018 10:22

I can't find where to hide topics. It used to be via my mumsnet somewhere but I can't find it now. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

I can hide threads no problem but I'd rather just completely shut off aibu and feminism now as a whole and that used to be possible.

Thank you

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 23/03/2018 10:23

I'll use the phrase my granny used when she came across someone both pitiful and abhorrent, Accidental - You poor unfortunate...

HomeTerf · 23/03/2018 10:24

FACTS FACTS FACTS!!

God, I know! Don't you just hate it when people insist on pointing out reality? So unfair.

YourVagesty · 23/03/2018 10:29

It's probably the biggest single issue to affect feminism for a long time so it's going to generate a fuck-tonne of debate on the feminism board.

If you're not interested, you find it boring etc. just hide the relevant boards.

DeltaG · 23/03/2018 10:30

Oh dear Kylie. I guess this thread didn't go as you wanted it to, eh?! Did you expect to see lots of other turkeys voting for Christmas?

Suck it up, as the Americans say. Grin

SuitedandBooted · 23/03/2018 10:31

I love a good debate

YourVagesty · 23/03/2018 10:32

*"Maybe people will remember Amy Desir in years to come."

@AccidentalKylie In the same way that we remember black and white minstrels, yes.*

I'm hoping it'll be those who adopt 'woman-face' who are remembered in the same way that we remember black and white minstrels tbh.

The Problem of Credulity

Lessons here for everyone. Whether radical fem or liberal fem.

It assesses why facts v belief can be used against regardless of which we happen to favour on any given debate.

Politics has polarised because we have lost all sense of the lessons here. One of the best and most thought provoking articles I've read in a long time.

BiologyMatters · 23/03/2018 10:39

Thanks for the 24 page thread op. Youve probaly peaked a few more people and almost certainly got a few more signatures on the petition supporting women's right to free speech. What a lovely thought to warm your cockles on a dreary friday Smile

SilverBirchTree · 23/03/2018 10:44

Agree. Boring, and worse is the vitriol so many mumsnetters direct towards transgendered people.

Whizbang · 23/03/2018 10:45

Personally I am grateful for the threads that you find so annoying Kylie. I knew nothing about the proposed changes to self ID laws....let’s face it, it isn’t being debated ANYWHERE else. Women are routinely shouted down for raising concerns and we’ve had to resort to a petition FFS just to have a debate in parliament about the impact on women. It’s really sinister.

Thanks to the many posters on this and other trans threads for opening my eyes, I am very grateful, keep the threads coming please.

NFATR · 23/03/2018 10:45

Prove that. Go on, give us some links. Or you could save time and admit thats a filthy lie now?

Arealhumanbeing · 23/03/2018 10:50

Absolutely.

Thanks from me also, OP. You have inspired me to overcome the way this debate affects me.

I’m going to start by writing to my MP today.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 23/03/2018 10:52

Anyway. This is a waste of everyone's time.

Yep

But well done you for starting another trans thread...congrats

Terftastic · 23/03/2018 10:57

I'm wondering if OP is from Pink News.

One of their writers posted a tweet very similar to the OP about MN being obsessed, and a screenshot. There's some dodgy article about MN and how we're all ghastly old bigots by PN somewhere, I think.

Given Pink News's dubious take on reality, and OP's dubious grasp of facts, it seems possible. Either that, or OP reads way much of PN.

SirVixofVixHall · 23/03/2018 11:01

"Vitriol against transgender people" Where? For a start this concern re self id is to do with males, female trans identifying people are obviously welcome in female single sex space. This isn't an issue of feminists vs transpeople, it is an issue of women vs male people. Do you women who say this issue is boring, realise that ANY man at all will be able to id as a "woman" under the new laws and access the female estate? You won't be able to object, as that would then be a "hate crime". Cross dressers, according to Stonewall's own "trans umbrella" qualify as trans. Do you want fetishists in with your teenage daughters? Because I bloody well don't. I've experienced a fetishistic cross dresser, (forcing me to look at his erection in women's underwear) when I worked in a clothes shop. I was very young and it was horrible. Under the new laws we wouldn't be able to object to someone like this. Wake up women! This isn't a trans issue, this is a sex issue.

Djnoun · 23/03/2018 11:03

No one is trying to silence the transphobia. What is suggested is that it has its own topic, so that people who don't like seeing transphobic posts in active or would like to read about other issues on the feminism board can do so, by simply hiding the topic.

The tactics used to try and indoctrinate others into hatred is a big part of why a lot of us on MN no longer want to see it. How many times last night did I have to ask to be left alone? How many accusations were made about me being a man or having some weird twitter identity?

We just don't want to look at it anymore.

It's strange, I haven't seen any vitriol directed towards trans people on MN. Could you point it out? It's disappointing that there is a 24 page thread of calm, logical factual posts and yet you were so desperate to virtue signal you just plopped in at the end with TRANSPHOBES.

MyLittleVespa · 23/03/2018 11:05

Faux concern, bigotry disguised as rationality and a reliance on anomalies and made up anecdotes. TERFs use exactly the same tactics as the alt-right.

This post for some reason more than any other on this thread represents to me the dangerous 'divide and conquer' dynamics currently at play in this mad decade.

It IS gas lighting and designed to make citizens, women (and men) doubt themselves and their wisdom, knowledge and experiences. It is designed to rip apart the very fabric of society as we know it.

It IS literally saying black is white and white is black, post truth, fake news and utterly undermining of civil society as we know it.

Saying men can ACTUALLY and REALLY be women has no roots or anchor in physical reality, it is make belief, spinning fairy tales.

The question is who benefits from this trend? Who would be interested in putting this on the policy agenda over and above misguided individuals who are sadly caught up in it their personal struggle with their identity?

Who or what benefits from general society increasingly doubting its critical faculties and its experience of biological reality and civil society?

Once we have acquiesced to believe #fake news rather than relying on our critical thinking and lived reality what other taboos will be put on the policy table which we won't dare to question and challenge because we don't trust that black is black and white is white anymore?

Being gender critical is the way forward, let people wear what they like and pursue professionals and hobbies that suit their personalities. But do not pretend a male can ever be female and vv. FGS.

Luckily there are increasingly people all over the world who won't let the wool be pulled over their eyes.

OvaHere · 23/03/2018 11:07

Exactly Vespa great post.
