To think Mumsnet is OBSESSED

I used to read Mumsnet because it was a lot of clever, funny women talking about stuff I was interested in, but it's become a one issue forum. It's exhausting.

Just don’t read those threads. Simples.

BiologyMatters · 22/03/2018 22:47

Djnoun you know where we are if you change your mind. Smile

merrymouse · 22/03/2018 22:48

So still no closer to understanding what a woman is if it's not something to do with biology.

Djnoun it's like you're reading something that isn't actually there? Probably best you hide these topics if you are that fragile.

Alternativefacts · 22/03/2018 22:51

OP how about try starting a ‘clever funny’ thread on something you think is interesting instead of criticising what others want to discuss?
You might find this is a more of productive than this thread if what you want is to change the subject!

RhubarbTea · 22/03/2018 22:53

I completely agree, OP. It's really sad.

smashyourglasses · 22/03/2018 22:54

I think maybe you're obsessed, you're never fucking out of the feminist boards 😂

kooshbin · 22/03/2018 22:56

You shot yourself in the foot with that screenshot, OP. There's probably a term for what you did there – self-selecting of data, perhaps? (Not a scientist.) Pretty much invalidated your argument from the get-go.

It's perfectly possible to ignore topics in the Women's Rights/Feminism section. I successfully manage to ignore topics in, say, Pushchairs.

But my ignoring Pushchairs won't have an impact on my life. Whereas ignoring the issue of self-ID will most definitely have an impact on my life. And if debate continues to be stifled, it will have an impact on your life – but by then, it'll be too late for you to complain.

This is an interesting book to look up

Djnoun, you don't feel sick you just can't keep up with the argument.

You're used to people backing down, aren't you?

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 22/03/2018 22:58

I actually didn’t mean to post that book title here but I think it applies Grin GrinGrin

PositivelyPERF · 22/03/2018 23:01

I must say the amount of threads about trans issues does seem a bit excessive.

Well there would be less if people didn’t go out of their way to start threads complaining about the number of trans threads! Then there are the ploppers that start threads telling us how we are all nasty transphobes. 🤣

GnotherGnu · 22/03/2018 23:03

It is odd, though, that such a small proportion of MN feminists can apparently bring to mind any other feminist issue they wish to discuss. It's not as if there aren't incredibly important issues out there: trafficking, abortions and bodily autonomy, rape and sexual assault by non-trans men, women's safety in non-trans contexts, female oppression in some cultures and religions, under-representation of women in government and other positions of power, under-representation of women in senior positions in the professions and in commerce, etc etc etc; but, apparently, 9 times out of 10, feminists on MN would rather spend their time discussing trans issues. And, as the threads demonstrate, very few actually have anything interesting or new to say about them. There's probably people out there building fascinating sociological theses on the phenomenon.

Italiangreyhound · 22/03/2018 23:03

Isn't this a TAAT (plural) Thought that wasn't allowed?

Anyway, as others say, if those topics don't interest you, OP, don't click on them.

Djnoun · 22/03/2018 23:05

@Weebo

Do you get some kind of kick out of making nasty comments or something? Take a look at yourself Sad

SmufOrTerf · 22/03/2018 23:05

Dj but you have become such a regular on the trans threads

Maybe its women you should keep away from

SuburbanRhonda · 22/03/2018 23:06

To me, it's like reading homophobia. It is genuinely upsetting.

So why do you keep reading them then? I mean, the solution is literally in your hands.

Terftastic · 22/03/2018 23:07

I reckon every time a thread like this is started, a unicorn reaches peak-trans Grin

Seriously though, djnoun is trying to emotionally blackmail us into talking about women's issues.

This is dangerous - wailing "oh, your nasty transphobia is making me sick" is what certain high profile transactivists do on Twitter to silence women talking about a change in the law that will affect them.

Re-defining biological women in law, without consulting biological women, and then telling them to shut up and just put up with it - calling them transphobes and bigots - well, it's not on, is it? (Or - in the words of Shon Faye on twitter "women, enjoy your erasure" - even more sinister. They know what they're doing.)

Again, I'm very grateful to MNHQ for not censoring discussion on this.

Terftastic · 22/03/2018 23:09

*not talking.

SuburbanRhonda · 22/03/2018 23:09

Jesus, just leave me alone!!!!

Says the poster who stays on a thread and keeps posting despite saying reading the posts makes them feel sick ...
