To think Mumsnet is OBSESSED

I used to read Mumsnet because it was a lot of clever, funny women talking about stuff I was interested in, but it's become a one issue forum. It's exhausting.

There's no panic n the streets of Scotland because most people dont have any idea what has happened!

You know you can leave the thread and that’s like exactly the same thing as people leaving you alone?

SmufOrTerf · 22/03/2018 23:12

GG women in government
That's a good thing to discuss
Ok to get more women in politics lets have AWS

Oh wait
We have tried that
And Miss Madigan said 'it will be wonderful when AWS are filled with TW

Can people see the problem here ?

merrymouse · 22/03/2018 23:12

GnotherGnu, how is it possible to discuss any issue relating to women without a clear definition of what a woman is?

SmufOrTerf · 22/03/2018 23:14

Dj I don't think MN is where you should be

MagneticMan · 22/03/2018 23:17

@Djnoun - perhaps leaving the thread might help instead of clicking furiously for updates?

Nobody is bullying anyone and there has not been any transphobia. I am not addressing this to anyone in particular btw. I hope anyone who is struggling personally is able to get some help in real life. Flowers peace and love to anyone who is having a hard time with this, whichever side of the divide you're on.

As someone who has been sexually assaulted and harassed I've felt sick many times at the thought of sex segregated spaces being under threat. Its genuinely caused me a lot of anguish. This is why its equally important for women's voices to be heard as well as trans peoples. Transpeople are not the problem. Self id becoming law is the problem.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 22/03/2018 23:18

This is not bullying, this is robust conversation. Did your school have a debating team?

Dj, you keep bumping the thread

Get a fucking grip

Djnoun · 22/03/2018 23:20

I don't think robust conversation means piling on and insulting one person over and over again. And then making out like they are somehow weak and pathetic when they ask you to stop. What is your obsession with me? I HATE seeing other people getting picked on, to the point that this is making me feel genuinely ill. STOP POSTING NEW MESSAGES TO ME

I wonder if there are any well known TRAs on here tonight? 🤔 My spidey senses are tingling. I’m going to read through a few posts and see if I can spot similar expressions and manner of speech.

TeaEnjoyingRadientFeminist · 22/03/2018 23:22

@GnotherGnu MN feminists have discussed and debated the issues related to every one of those topics many times. The difference is each one of those things is an integrated, institutional part of the patriarchy and will continue to take significant amounts of time to dismantle (despite the best efforts of some amazing people).

The issues around self ID are very live due to the proposed legislation change and the air time given to it by politicians. On MN we actually have the opportunity to talk about an issue that will have a massive impact on women's rights around the world in a place where we aren't being censored or threatened for having those conversations. Conversations that have already started to raise national awareness of something that so few people know the realities of. We have already made a tangible difference in a short time, and with persistence could help actively block the legislation that threatens our rights. We aren't ignoring the other countless issues that women face, we're trying to stop another one forming and becoming enshrined in law in the short time that we have to make the biggest difference.

CadyHeron · 22/03/2018 23:24

@MNHQ Please, please give them their own topic. This is just sick

It isn't sick, it is people discussing a very valid, real debate that needs to be had. You can't just silence it and expect a no debate over something so important as women's rights.

maxthemartian · 22/03/2018 23:24

@Djnoun I'm glad misogynist slurs don't make you as literally sick as supposed transphobia.

CadyHeron · 22/03/2018 23:26

I must say the amount of threads about trans issues does seem a bit excessive.

Have you actually read any of them to see what it's all about?

@Djnoun I'm glad misogynist slurs don't make you as literally sick as supposed transphobia.

If it did it would take some serious medical attention to recover after a few minutes reading the twitter discussions on this topic. I wonder, would the hospital ward be single sex or...

Kokeshi123 · 22/03/2018 23:27

I know there is a lot of talk about the trans issue on the fem boards, but that is in large part because debate has been shut down elsewhere. A lot of people are desperate to talk about this. If MN is the only damn place where this is allowed, talk will tend to concentrate on here.
