I can't of dropped 40lbs in 9 days...what is going on ?

Wantacurry · 21/03/2018 09:48

I am a very fat 20 stone woman with medical issues.

Currently following a very strict low cal medical eating plan under dietician for the past 9 days, another 13 days to go :(

The digital bathroom scales which are still working correctly for my DH, tells me I have dropped 40 pounds over the last 9 days !

That can't be right, can it ?

I do minimum of 5 miles walking a day (11, 000 steps via Fitbit), 15 minutes of body weight with trx straps exercise x 3 a week and occasional swim at the weekend with my family.

Is this broken scales, water loss or a completed anomoly and I will be much heavier again tomorrow.

Just for completeness. I always use same scales on same point of the floor, when I wake up in the morning. After using toilet but before I step into the shower and naked !

Of course I would be delighted if it was a real loss but logically it just can't be, can it ?

Good luck OP, I really do need to do FODMAP again. Made such a difference to my IBSD.

Wantacurry · 21/03/2018 11:01

For your daughter some low fodmap sauces are sold under "Fodmapped for you" on Amazon but too pricey for me. I had to get the stock cubes. Without my soup I would be too hungry.

Good luck with your weight loss OP. I need to do this diet but have the pickiest family in the world and its a total nightmare juggling their wants with my needs. I really hope you get your health issues sorted out

TimeIhadaNameChange · 21/03/2018 11:05

As well as weighing yourself take some photos. Nobody else has to see them, but they will help you see the difference in your body as the weight falls off. I never used to take photos of me, and don't have any of myself at my heaviest last year, but I needed passport photos about a month in and a friend took loads for me in an attempt to get one that reached their standards. After that, whenever I wore the same clothes again (every other week or so) I'd take a photo, and it was really encouraging to see how the clothes fitted me better each time.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 21/03/2018 11:06

ouch at the price of those stockcubes! Thanks for the link though, we might wait till she's done all the reintroduction phase and see how much they're needed (just done bread so far, which was quite obviously an issue Wink)

BatFinked · 21/03/2018 11:07

Joyofsox - don't be a dick. That's how people like you come across when you feel the urge to correct other people's grammar.

OP - it's possible but unlikely. Close to two stone I'd fully believe though

TimeIhadaNameChange · 21/03/2018 11:07

What about using Marmite instead of stock in your soups? Might be worth a try.

Idobelieveinfairies2018 · 21/03/2018 11:10

@quimreaper yes i was exactly 20 stone when I started

yumyumpoppycat · 21/03/2018 11:23

I guess it could be partly the ibs causing the dramatic loss op if you were bunged at start and not now? It sounds like your focused on your health anyway Op, good luck!

That is true quim, 40lbs in 10 days for a woman is an astonishing amount. 4lbs a days sounds possible I guess though if there is some water retention thing going on Confused

WellTidy · 21/03/2018 11:28

That is an incredible amount of weight, but I wonder whether your digestive system is now working better and maybe you have had an inadvertent colonic irrigation! You do hear about people losing loads of weight because of that, and you will have lost a lot given your diet and exercise too. Well done on whatever your weight loss is.

senioritabonita · 21/03/2018 11:49

It may be a huge amount of water - this happened to my DB. He lost 15 stone in 10 months and 2 stone in the first 10 days. He's so so much healthier and happier now and diabetes free.

Well done OP - what you are doing is such hard work and I have so much admiration for you. Flowers

Lucked · 21/03/2018 12:44

Actually it says in that BL article the record is 41. So maybe it is real. Maybe a little bit sneaky but if a was going on the biggest loser I would eat a heavy meal and drink lots of fluid before my baseline measurements.

I wonder if the usual 'water weight' which comes from using glycogen as fuel you have also been retaining water and less salt and more exercise has help shift some of this. Do you have puffy legs?

Sabaisabai1234 · 21/03/2018 12:53

It is impossible to achieve a genuine weight loss of anywhere near that amount in that space of time. For the morbidly obese who have depleted their huge glycogen stores, then the water that is bound to the glycogen has been released. That is all that has happened and the weight will return as and when the glycogen is replaced, from excess carbs mostly.

HollyBayTree · 21/03/2018 12:55

Are you taking water retention tablets ? DH lost 14lbs in 3 days in hospital ... it just melted away ....

loveisevol · 21/03/2018 12:56

I'm intrigued now whether you have lost 40lb. I'd love to lose that in one week! It's taken me 5 months to lose 25lb.

Snowmagedon · 21/03/2018 12:57

What wrong with garlic and onion?

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 21/03/2018 13:01

Well done OP Star

I did 11,000 the other day and walked about 5 miles so you’re doing well if you do that daily!

TorvillandDean · 21/03/2018 13:09

Congratulations OP, you've done so well to stick it out.

What's the plan after your 13 days?

Bluntness100 · 21/03/2018 13:19

Well the good news is if your goal weight is 15 stone, and you have lost 40lbs. You've only now got about two to lose..you'd be at your target next week,,😝

kmc1111 · 21/03/2018 13:31

Did you weigh in at the start on an empty stomach? Not doing so could easily add 5lbs+ to begin with, and at that weight losing 10-15lbs of pure water weight in a week isn’t unheard of.

If the exercise and diet is a sudden overhaul, I’d say it’s possible you have lost 40lbs, but if so you should be prepared to see some pounds creep back, or at least expect to be stalled at that loss for a few weeks.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 21/03/2018 13:39

Snowmageddon - garlic and onion can affect people with IBS/similar, so the low FODMAP diet removes them (along with gluten, lactose, and what seems like a random assortment of vegetables). You then add back in something from each category one a a time and see what happens. Only to be done under the supervision of a dietitian though, and not healthy long term.

Garlic and onion specifically are sneaky as they're in practically all processed savoury foods (as powder mainly) for seasoning/flavouring, and not always listed separately in the ingredients.

Wantacurry · 21/03/2018 13:40

Plan after 13 days is to slowly reintroduce normal food slowly one by one.

Garlic and onion are forbidden on the Fodmap diet and are in virtual everything including gluten free foods. It is so hard to find anything which doesn't have one or the other.

I have 10 potatoes in the oven baking. I keep them in the fridge and reheat in the microwave. Yum potatoes. :)

My goal weight is 11.5 stone. I reckon it will take me two years to get there.

OP posts:
yumyumpoppycat · 21/03/2018 13:40

snowagedon - onion and garlic are high in fodmaps which means some people with IBS can't tolerate them and get stomach pains etc. Going low fodmap doesn't guarantee weightloss but it can help people stay on track with healthy eating if they know which healthy foods will make them feel worse and avoid them.

yumyumpoppycat · 21/03/2018 13:42

sorry cross post.

You sound very level headed about your weight loss projections under the circumstances want Grin

geekone · 21/03/2018 13:59

Psychologically weighing your self daily and taking an average over the week is better as weight especially on women fluctuates a lot (hormones etc) so keep weighing if it helps. See below articles.

I didn't know if your scales are right or not and I think possibly at 20 stone you will be wearing loose clothes anyway so you might not notice a body change as yet. Good luck it's great when people find something that works for them and really good to see exercise is important to you too Grin

There was a great you tube video but I can't find it. If you want to maintain weighing yourself once you are at your target weight but you want to increase exercise then you should invest in a scale with body fat reader as you will increase slightly in weight as you grow muscle. That way you will know you are not putting "fat" back on. Good luck 😉
