I can't of dropped 40lbs in 9 days...what is going on ?

Wantacurry · 21/03/2018 09:48

I am a very fat 20 stone woman with medical issues.

Currently following a very strict low cal medical eating plan under dietician for the past 9 days, another 13 days to go :(

The digital bathroom scales which are still working correctly for my DH, tells me I have dropped 40 pounds over the last 9 days !

That can't be right, can it ?

I do minimum of 5 miles walking a day (11, 000 steps via Fitbit), 15 minutes of body weight with trx straps exercise x 3 a week and occasional swim at the weekend with my family.

Is this broken scales, water loss or a completed anomoly and I will be much heavier again tomorrow.

Just for completeness. I always use same scales on same point of the floor, when I wake up in the morning. After using toilet but before I step into the shower and naked !

Of course I would be delighted if it was a real loss but logically it just can't be, can it ?

Op, were you sure you weighed 20 stone to begin with? Did a doctor weigh uou? Some scales get a bit weird over a certain weight ie 18 stone. So it could be you were never that heavy in the first place?

QuimReaper · 21/03/2018 10:19

Golly OP, that does sound too good to be true! Was your starting weight recorded at the Dr's surgery, and if so, had you checked at home and did they match?

If it can be done on The Biggest Loser in 7 days, I don't see why it can't be done for you in 9.

I'd expect you to have noticed the difference if you'd lost that much, but weirdly, the bigger you are when you start the longer it can take to show. People say your clothes'd be hanging off you, but only really if your clothes are tailored - if they're elasticated they might just be a bit looser.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 21/03/2018 10:20

wantacurry - side query - what onion and garlic free chicken stock cubes do you use? DD is currently low fodmapping and struggling with no garlic and onion as they seem to be in bloody everything!

QuimReaper · 21/03/2018 10:20

Sorry, I'm clearly a very slow typist Blush

incywincybitofa · 21/03/2018 10:22

Have you moved the scales? My scales give very different readings depending where they are on the bathroom floor
Also can the Olb be altered some scales take into account say clothing and the 0 isn't actually zero you can play around with it (like kitchen scales)
The key is you are loosing weight in a healthy way and as long as that continues to happen that is the main thing

blueskyinmarch · 21/03/2018 10:22

If you weren't weighed elsewhere then i would assume that your scales are just not very accurate at the top end of the weight limit.

Wantacurry · 21/03/2018 10:23

I will report back tomorrow/next week and let you know how much weight came back, lol.

Thanks for all the kind words. I am finding it hard, as I am so fussy and dislike most of the allowable food. But I am resigned to my diet at the moment. Hoping to try gf pasta and tomatoes at the weekend, see how that tastes.

Despite the hunger, I do feel much better and not as taut and overfull. Looking forward to reintroducing food in 13 days time mind :)

a bit personal but has aunt flow just finished by any chance? Every week I lose 2lb but the weigh in after af I lose 4-5.
Also as others have said it clothes should be unwearable. I've lost 16lb now and already I've dropped a dress size. I would imagine that a loss of 40lb would see ur jeans/leggings falling straight 2 ur ankles?

If u have lost that much (seeing as dh has not had the same) then I would make an appointment with ur GP or dietician asap as something could be very wrong
x

I was definitely 20 stone. I have four weekly weigh in at home at that weight and a similar one at the bowel consultant the month before.

@MyVisionsComeFromSoup
I got these OXO chicken stock cubes at iceland. HTH. Fodmap sucks.

I can't of dropped 40lbs in 9 days...what is going on ?

Even if you haven't lost 3 stone, it sounds like you're doing brilliantly!

These diets are really tough, too, you're being super strong. It gets easier as your body gets used to less food.

Do look after yourself and stay hydrated. I'm guessing some of it may be water loss, but that doesn't mean you're not losing actual weight too. If you stick to a plan like this, you can't fail to.

QuimReaper · 21/03/2018 10:29

Ido were you 20 stone to begin with?

Wantacurry · 21/03/2018 10:32

MammaAgata. I do weigh myself once a week but might weigh in tomorrow as I can't wait a week after such a weird reading.

I deliberately bought fat people scales which can accurately weigh people up to 25 stone.
These are not basic cheap scales but clearly not proper medical scales either. So they are more accurate that standard scales but not as good as medical scales.

I will do battery change and reset scales and try again and see what the new reading is tomorrow.

Thanks wantacurry, she was told by her dietitican that if an ingredients list had "flavourings" then that was probably onion/garlic, which rules out OXO Sad. I thought for a moment you had found the holy grail of fodmap Wink. Im mostly concerned because she's coming back home for a week or so soon, and I need to incorporate my usual meal plans and her restrictions.

Very well done on your weight loss btw, forgot to say earlier.

Wantacurry · 21/03/2018 10:34

@MyVisionsComeFromSoup My dietican said I could have these on the Fodmap diet even though they have wheat flour in as she said it was a small amount over three days of soup was acceptable levels. HTH

Sorry, that comment ‘weigh yourself once a week’ was a correction to my earlier post where I told you to eat yourself once a week.. Grin

Viviennemary · 21/03/2018 10:37

No I don't think that would be possible. Something wrong with scales I'd say. But a stone in a week can be done if people have a lot to lose and are on a very strict diet. But even that would be a lot for a week.

cafune7 · 21/03/2018 10:38

OP, just came here to say well done! Your menu sounds healthy and well done and you're exercising too! Keep up the good work!

Trinity66 · 21/03/2018 10:39

wow that does seem like alot in such a short period of time, good luck with it

yumyumpoppycat · 21/03/2018 10:41

Some one did lose 38lbs in week 1 of biggest loser www.yahoo.com/entertainment/blogs/fall-tv/biggest-loser--premiere--who-lost-an-incredible-38-pounds-in-a-week--042736657.html you might find your future weigh ins are a bit disappointing if it is true so don't be disheartened if your weightloss slows a lot (actually it would be scary if it didn't!) just work out your average weekly weightloss for the time you have been doing it. The chances are there would be another 20 stone woman who looses 10lbs in week 1 and then over a couple of months it would average out so you had lost the same in total.

If you continue to lose high amounts you might want to look into it though.

QuimReaper · 21/03/2018 10:54

yumyum looks like he weighed almost thirty stone though!

Wantacurry · 21/03/2018 10:54

Pants, just off the phone from premiere foods. You are right.
Chicken stock cubes contain garlic (no onion)
Beef and Lamb contain onions (no garlic)

I have googled and just thrown a large amount of money at the problem and bought this stock cubes on Amazon which are no garlic, no onion suitable for fodmap diet...hurrah. Will let you know what they taste of when I have tried them. Else my next batch of soup is going to be very bland.

I was aiming for a 2 pound loss a week, dropping to a 1 pound loss as I got smaller.

I think you really lost 40lbs! Well done!
