To ask what vegetables you don't like?

I've always thought of myself as being a fussy eater and as someone who doesn't really like veg.

I know I am fussy in that for example, I like bacon crispy and gag if I get a big stringy bit of fat in a bacon sandwich. I can't stand getting gristle in a sausage or burger, basically I'm not a big fan of processed meat. I don't like unexpected bones in food.

When I really think about it though there is only one vegetable that I can think of that I dislike and that's broccoli.

I like all fruit I can't think of a single one I don't like. I'm not saying I'd relish a plate of sprouts, but I love salad and eat most veg if cooked and seasoned well. If I was to go round the fruit and veg aisle literally the only thing I wouldn't like to eat is the broccoli.

I wonder if I'm not that fussy after all.

Sprouts. They taste of evil.

Dark green cabbage. See above.

Turnips. Pointless tasteless rank textured pieces of stodge.

Swede. You can fuck off with your turnipy cousin and never come back.

Mange Tout. Like eating pieces of green Lego.

Everything else is lush though.

Notproudofthisone · 19/03/2018 08:47

Broad beans, okra, corgette, aubergine. The worst even tho not really a veg is coriander, WHY does it taste of soap?

blinkineckmum · 19/03/2018 08:48

Raw celery, onion, pepper, radiah, rocket.
Mushroom.
Sweetcorn.

crazycatlady5 · 19/03/2018 08:50

@IanRushesInadequateFlushes yours cracked me up 😂

notthegumdropbuttons · 19/03/2018 08:50

Aubergines and courgettes 🤢

coldlocation · 19/03/2018 09:20

Broad Beans, cauliflower, broccoli, sprouts, cabbage, peas, potatoes.

I'm a vegetarian! This is inconvenient.

Ihatemyclients · 19/03/2018 09:27

Loathe celery if raw (but love it cooked!)

I don't like brussel sprouts but other than that I can't think of any veg I really don't like. I love all fruit that I have tried.

I wouldn't consider you fussy based on what you've said! I'm a vegetarian so you sound pretty similar to me and I think I'm a good eater! Grin

AcronymsForAll · 19/03/2018 09:31

Any leafy greens - kale, spinach, random green salad stuff (especially rocket !), spring greens etc. I do force myself to eat them at times, but hate it.

Haircutdilemma · 19/03/2018 09:37

I hate and wouldn't eat:

Aubergine
Courgette
Avocado
Raw tomato
Raw celery
Radish
Beetroot

AthenasOwl · 19/03/2018 09:40

Are mushrooms considered a vegetable? Coz they are vile.

rainbowcakes · 19/03/2018 09:40

Celery, tastes like murky water. Confused cant disguise the taste even with cream cheese. However i can tolerate it when whizzed in a food processor and added to something like a chilli.

And brocolli....I desperately want to like it, but i just dont! I force myself to eat it from time to time but I dont enjoy it at all!

areyoubeingserviced · 19/03/2018 09:43

Beetroot and cucumbers. Both make me gag

missmorleyme · 19/03/2018 09:44

Parsnips, makes me want to vomit. I used to like then but was given them all the time whrn i was a kid and it turned my stomache when i seen them on my plate.

areyoubeingserviced · 19/03/2018 09:44

I'm a vegetarian, mainly because I can't stand the texture of gristle, fat, sinewy bits, etc. in meat.

Hate cucumber and celery. Sprouts are not something I would cook but if they are prepared properly, I will tolerate them. I hate floury potatoes, something that seems to be the holy grail to Irish people. Waxy ones are fine.

LimonViola · 19/03/2018 11:25

I love celery, sprouts, parsnips, almost all veg really!

I'm not a fan of turnip or swede but I wouldn't say I dislike them.

The only ones I don't actually like are beetroot and radish. But I'd eat them if they were part of a meal. I can't abide fussy or picky eater adults.

A lot of people's dislike I think is based on whether they like the veg when it has been overboiled and plonked on a plate in a little puddle of water. Which is fair enough. But most veg can be served in myriad ways and with the correct cooking method/seasoning/accompaniment I reckon most people who turn their nose up at a particular vegetable could enjoy it.

LimonViola · 19/03/2018 11:29

Ihatemyclients if you spread some peanut butter on celery then add a few raisins on top (ants on a log) celery tastes delicious!

LimonViola · 19/03/2018 11:29

Also my top tip for sprouts is to parboil them, then roast them drizzled in maple syrup. Lush. Can eat an entire dish of them!

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 19/03/2018 11:31

Oh, I forgot about parsnips.

Seriously. Is there anything more disappointing than biting into a lovely chip, only to discover it's a sodding parsnip chip?? Deceitful pointy headed bastards Angry

Curried parsnip soup is edible though.

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 19/03/2018 11:32

Limon - i think there is supposed to be a genetic element to some dark leafy vegetables, where some people taste them as being much more bitter than others?

LimonViola · 19/03/2018 11:32

Sticks of raw carrot and cucumber are delicious dipped into a really simple dip (mayonnaise mixed with mild curry powder).

Broccoli is amazing boiled and then roasted, either naked or with some spices.

LimonViola · 19/03/2018 11:33

IanRushesInadequateFlushes oh my gosh I'd take a roasted parsnip chip over a regular potato chip any day!

It's not a roast dinner without parsnips! 😍

That's interesting and doesn't surprise me, I reckon we all taste things differently.

newmumwithquestions · 19/03/2018 11:35

I’m not wild on okra or califlower but will eat it when given, especially if there’s something to mix it in with.

I hate Brussels sprouts with a passion.

I love broad beans. All you broad been haters drop off your broad beans here!
