To ask what vegetables you don't like?

I've always thought of myself as being a fussy eater and as someone who doesn't really like veg.

I know I am fussy in that for example, I like bacon crispy and gag if I get a big stringy bit of fat in a bacon sandwich. I can't stand getting gristle in a sausage or burger, basically I'm not a big fan of processed meat. I don't like unexpected bones in food.

When I really think about it though there is only one vegetable that I can think of that I dislike and that's broccoli.

I like all fruit I can't think of a single one I don't like. I'm not saying I'd relish a plate of sprouts, but I love salad and eat most veg if cooked and seasoned well. If I was to go round the fruit and veg aisle literally the only thing I wouldn't like to eat is the broccoli.

I wonder if I'm not that fussy after all.

Sprouts and durian. I could choke them down if I had to, bit no way I'd choose to eat them!

Bloodybridget · 19/03/2018 00:16

I don't like okra, the taste is fine but I can't stand the texture. Would eat bits of turnip in a stew, but not on their own. Apart from that I can't think of any vegetable I really dislike; I love Brussels sprouts, greens, cabbage, cauliflower.

THirdEeye · 19/03/2018 00:21

Sprouts
Aubergine
Courgette
Butternut squash
Pumpkin
Archichoke (tastes like soap)
Okra
Radish
Mushroom
Durian (smells like rotting meat 🤢🤮)

ObiJuanKenobi · 19/03/2018 00:27

Aubergine
Courgette
Peppers
Cooked onion
Artichoke

Love all else

halfwitpicker · 19/03/2018 00:28

Are we allowed herbs or not?

For the record I detest dill and do not like rosemary. Love coriander though.

Splendify · 19/03/2018 00:48

Vegetables: Peas (only the "grown up" ones 😆 - I love the baby ones).

Fruit: Pawpaw/Papaya - can't even stand the smell. Pineapple (am allergic). Custard Apple - taste and texture is just off for me.

ClinkyMonkey · 19/03/2018 00:51

Spinach - it's ok in a dish like curry, but not on its own. Hate the texture. Don't mind it raw though.
Kale - can only tolerate it hidden in a smoothie.

romany4 · 19/03/2018 01:59

Love all veg apart from green beans (stringy) and swede. Fucking hate swede!
I don't do any fruit apart from bananas because everything gives me reflux

LackOfAdhesiveDucks · 19/03/2018 02:07

I like carrots, beets, beans, potato/sweet potatoes, squash, peas, asparagus, cucumber and corn. I’ll eat most others ones but wouldn’t say I like them. I hate tomato, onion and celery so won’t eat them at all which is a shame since they are in so many different dishes!

LostPlatypus · 19/03/2018 02:34

There are some I haven't tried so this isn't a totally exhaustive list, but:

Radishes, rocket, fennel and lime are all things I would struggle to eat even in polite company.

I prefer to avoid mushrooms, pineapple and peppers when possible (the latter two because I get awful indigestion, much as I actually like pineapple).

I'm vegetarian. Not liking mushrooms is a total pain but at least I've grown to tolerate them. Also, I've never tried okra but the way some of you describe it I really don't want to 😂

sleepyhead24 · 19/03/2018 02:43

I like all veg apart from raw celery, I dont like many fruits find them too sour for me. , Pears are the only fruit I happily eat , I loved pineapple when pregnant with DD used to eat a whole one nearly everyday I find them gross now.

MistressDeeCee · 19/03/2018 03:01

Broccoli, carrots, butter beans. okra.

MistressDeeCee · 19/03/2018 03:05

I forgot peas, and the sheer horror that is kale

Lostplatypus okra is slime on a plate. When you swallow it literally slides right down...

LostPlatypus · 19/03/2018 03:11

MistressDeeCee Thanks for that description. That honestly sounds vile and unless I don't have a choice (i.e. as a dinner guest) I'm definitely avoiding it now!

TonicAndTonic · 19/03/2018 03:23

Peas - I'll only eat them to be polite.

Fruit-wise I'm not keen on melon and I went off bananas completely in pregnancy to the point where I could smell someone opening one across the office! Don't mind them again now though.

LolitaLempicka · 19/03/2018 03:30

Okra is not slimy if it is cooked properly. Broad beans are delicious if skinned. I can’t think of a vegetable that I actively dislike, I hated Jerusalem artichokes until a few years ago, now they are amongst my favourite.

Emily7708 · 19/03/2018 04:05

Absolutely hate turnips and swede.

rumblytummy1 · 19/03/2018 04:28

Broccoli, Sprouts, cauliflower. They all taste bitter to me

Aethelthryth · 19/03/2018 04:33

celery
beetroot
blackcurrants
kiwi fruit

Kitchenbound · 19/03/2018 06:36

I pretty much like all veggies if cooked properly. For those of you who hate the taste of cauliflower have you tried purple caulis? Completely different taste 🙂

MongerTruffle · 19/03/2018 06:40

Aubergine, peas, cauliflower and green beans I like pretty much all other vegetables (to most people’s surprise, I love beetroot).

Mummadeeze · 19/03/2018 06:54

I hate lettuce. Most people tell me it doesn't taste of much but it has a strong flavour I dislike to me. I also don't like uncooked tomatos, cucumber, peppers, celery or beetroot. I don't like broad beans either. I like all other cooked vegetables but sadly I just can't eat salad which has been a pain on lots of occasions.

scaryteacher · 19/03/2018 06:55

I dislike okra, runner beans, broad beans, chicory (too bitter) and am not keen on the fat white asparagus. Am ambivalent about sweet potatoes. Can only tolerate mild chillies. I am with Nigella on green peppers (there is no excuse for them), but love the red, orange and yellow ones.

Mummadeeze · 19/03/2018 06:55

Oh and fruit wise I am verging on phobic when it comes to bananas. I really really hate them. I don't like melon but like all other fruits.

Clandestino · 19/03/2018 07:01

Cooked broccoli (can just tolerate it raw) and cooked onion (love any other form including raw but those chunks of cooked onion, just vile. Thank you Mum and the onion tea I had to drink for cough when I was a kid).
