To ask what vegetables you don't like?

I've always thought of myself as being a fussy eater and as someone who doesn't really like veg.

I know I am fussy in that for example, I like bacon crispy and gag if I get a big stringy bit of fat in a bacon sandwich. I can't stand getting gristle in a sausage or burger, basically I'm not a big fan of processed meat. I don't like unexpected bones in food.

When I really think about it though there is only one vegetable that I can think of that I dislike and that's broccoli.

I like all fruit I can't think of a single one I don't like. I'm not saying I'd relish a plate of sprouts, but I love salad and eat most veg if cooked and seasoned well. If I was to go round the fruit and veg aisle literally the only thing I wouldn't like to eat is the broccoli.

I wonder if I'm not that fussy after all.

I'm allergic to peppers and rhubarb both of which come back up again very quickly. Gooseberries often have the same effect.

Beyond that I don't like the sweeter roots - so swede sweet potato parsnips and I loathe turnips...

I don't like the texture of runner and green beans - too many childhood memories of trying to force them down with a glass of water when they were still rock hard.

Everything else is wonderful though.

cooked cauliflower and carrots ( but can eat raw) and beetroot

@LimonViola - Sticks of raw carrot and cucumber are delicious dipped into a really simple dip

Carrots, yes. The taste of cucumber completely overwhelms everything it comes in contact with. Even if the cucumber has been picked out of a salad, I can still taste it.

Apparently the ability to taste cucumber is genetic too. Some people think it's a mild, watery taste. Others know the truth - it's the work of the devil.

Fennel. Yuck yuck yuck. Not keen on some others but will tolerate them to be polite.

Jerusalem artichoke and broad beans - yuk and windy
okra - bland taste, slimy texture
brussel sprouts and kale - strong sulphur taste.
swede and turnip - cattle feed.

theymademejoin haha! I don't find it overwhelms a spicy dip!

One of my favourite ways to eat cucumber is frozen. Literally freeze sticks of it. Soooo refreshing.

Or in drinks. A few sticks in a glass of ice cold fizzy water. So delicious.

Mushrooms, raw tomato, broad beans, kidney beans (do any of those count?), beetroot, onions (except chopped up small in things), most salads/leafs, radish.

Wow I'm fussier than I thought!

Mushrooms and cauliflower can fuck off.

Oh and runner beans, but I think that's just because my family overcooks them, I've never bought them myself to try.

I'm allergic to bananas but will eat any other type of fruit.

DH is really fussy when it comes to fruit and veg so I don't tend to buy loads as if its only me it will go to waste, but I will have some veg or salad with every meal without fail, he will only have it if I'm cooking carrots, peas, swede or parsnips, or a spinich/rocket based salad (but he hates tomato, cucumber and raw onion).

I like most veg, really.
I don't like mushrooms or onions raw, but like them cooked.
I don't like roast parsnips, but will tolerate them in soup or stew.

I'm fussier with fruit, really not keen on banana, especially cooked. I'm allergic to pineapple, so that's no go either.

The taste of celery can't be disguised by anything. If a piece even touches a lettuce leaf I can tell. It's got a super strong taste even though its 99% water or whatever.

Aubergine, fennel and Brussel sprouts for taste. Swede, squash, cooked carrots, basically any mushy texture veg (incl mashed potatoes).
Also hate French beans for taste and texture.

Never met a vegetable I didn't like.

@LimonViola - bleuch!

You're obviously one of those people who can't taste it then. Once I heard about the genetic thing it explained all you weird people talking about how cucumber was so refreshing and pleasant tasting.

Peas and raw tomato

Think parsnips are the only veg i avoid. Ill happily eat everything else. Dont think theres really any fruit i dislike, tho i find strawberries a bit underwhelming.. they have a lot of hype for a particularly bland fruit in my opinion

Ha, Tartan, i was just mulling over whether to start a cheeky TAAT about which fruits people hate!

I can't stand tomatoes or strawberries unless they are mashed up - the seeds give me the creeps.

Cabbage I like raw (eg in coleslaw) but boiled makes me want to puke.

Hate brussels.

Worst has to be mushy, processed or tinned peas. Yuk, I feel sick even thinking of them. I like fresh or frozen peas though.

Jerusalem artichokes!

I have just experienced a recovered memory of the horror that is a Jerusalem artichoke.

Okra
Avocado
Raw mushrooms, they taste like I imagine the earth on graves tastes.
Rocket. But then again it's not a vegetable it's a bloody weed. Ruins my meal if I find rocket in it, actual face falling disappointment.

My friend will only eat peas, that's the only veg he will eat.

Drives me MAD. How can you dislike ALL veg. You're a GROWN UP.

Like I can suggest sweetcorn and he's like "oh no I tried that last year and couldn't eat it.

FFS.

I don't really like raw tomatoes, too slimy, but I do cook with them a lot.

@theymademejoin

That explains a lot! For years I've been called a weirdo for hating cucumber because "it doesn't taste of anything/ tastes like water"

I love water. Cucumber tastes nothing like water.

Only veg I dislike is runner beans as they are all stringy when you eat them. Never tried okra as they look very odd.

There isn't one I wouldn't eat but I am not keen in aubergine/ beetroot/turnips or mange tout so as I shop and cook we rarely have them.
I love broad beans , asparagus and celeriac so in season we eat them a lot.

Ooh, just read back: add okra to my not keen pile!
