To ask what vegetables you don't like?

I've always thought of myself as being a fussy eater and as someone who doesn't really like veg.

I know I am fussy in that for example, I like bacon crispy and gag if I get a big stringy bit of fat in a bacon sandwich. I can't stand getting gristle in a sausage or burger, basically I'm not a big fan of processed meat. I don't like unexpected bones in food.

When I really think about it though there is only one vegetable that I can think of that I dislike and that's broccoli.

I like all fruit I can't think of a single one I don't like. I'm not saying I'd relish a plate of sprouts, but I love salad and eat most veg if cooked and seasoned well. If I was to go round the fruit and veg aisle literally the only thing I wouldn't like to eat is the broccoli.

I wonder if I'm not that fussy after all.

I love all veg apart from sweet potato, squash and aubergine!

FallenAngel89 · 19/03/2018 07:02

Peppers and parsnips Envy

iLoveABiccy · 19/03/2018 07:18

Okra - ugh.
Fennel
Peaches (because of the hairy skin, even hate touching velvet in general Confused )
I totally understand hating the stringy bits of fat
Also hate oranges and grapes with loads of pips in them, can't do it, hate pips!

deptfordgirl · 19/03/2018 07:21

I actually like all I think which is lucky as I was a vegetarian for years.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 19/03/2018 07:26

Brussel sprouts, too bitter.
Fennel, hate that type of flavour with savoury food.
Beetroot, too sweet and earthy.

ShatnersBassoon · 19/03/2018 07:28

The only one I really can't eat is okra, not even to be polite. My mouth will not let it pass.

megletthesecond · 19/03/2018 07:29

Beetroot. Can't see the point in it. Apart from that I do like my veg.

Have to be picky about fruit though as it says my IBS off.

joystir59 · 19/03/2018 07:37

I like everything listed here

LoislovesStewie · 19/03/2018 07:40

Another vote for broad beans, I taste them for ever.

AnnabelleLecter · 19/03/2018 07:50

Sweetcorn

tabulahrasa · 19/03/2018 07:56

I’ve got different categories, lol

Proper can’t eat and a piece in something would ruin a meal for me (because they don’t taste edible)

Brussels sprouts
Turnip (swede if you’re English)
Okra
Grapefruit

Can only eat if they’re chopped up in things (these are definitely a texture issue rather than taste)

Mushrooms
Courgette
Aubergine

Can eat if I have to, but they don’t taste nice and I would never eat out of choice

Cabbage
Cauliflower
Broccoli
Mango

TerfsUp · 19/03/2018 07:56

Okra.

CocoPuffsInGodMode · 19/03/2018 08:01

I can't abide parsnips to the point that even the smell of them makes me retch. While I'm not pushed on peas or green beans I can eat them if that's what I'm served but I couldn't force parsnip down without a very high risk of the whole table viewing the meal in reverse!

TammyWhyNot · 19/03/2018 08:10

Raw celery
Beetroot
Okra
Broad beans unless very tiny
Cucumber only in tiny amounts.

brownelephant · 19/03/2018 08:12

fennel
both the taste & texture

SchoolMoney · 19/03/2018 08:18

Onions. They are the devil's plaything and they make it into EVERYTHING even when you specify no onions so have to take apart loads of meals, and sometimes then can still taste them on the food they have touched 😡

ShatnersWig · 19/03/2018 08:19

Easier to say which ones I do like: carrots, peas, sweetcorn, parsnips, potatoes. That's your lot. The rest can fuck off.

eljay2 · 19/03/2018 08:22

Asparagus

JellySlice · 19/03/2018 08:36

I can't think of any vegetable that I won't eat. Some I like more than others, some I'll only eat raw, some I'll only eat cooked, and the preparation makes a difference, too.

crazycatlady5 · 19/03/2018 08:40

Everyone in my family says I’m fussy but I can count on one hand the things I don’t like. Smelly cheese, seafood, onions (unless small in sauce Blush), and soggy courgette (I like courgetti and what not, just not when it’s all wet).

I tolerate some other things I’m not a big fan of but would still eat them.

I’M NOT FUSSY DAMMIT stomps feet

MyNewBearTotoro · 19/03/2018 08:40

I don’t think there are any vegetables I’d refuse to eat, a few I’m not keen enough on to ever buy and cook myself but nothing I couldn’t eat at a friend’s house.

I can be a bit fussy about food but it’s things like cheese, eggs and meat that I have certain hang-ups about. Fruit and veg are fine.

Eolian · 19/03/2018 08:40

Okra. There are few foods I dislike. It sounds as though it's not about the number of foods you don't like, OP, but your strong reaction to particular textures. Even the few foods I dislike wouldn't make me gag. I'm always a bit surprised by the number of MNers who say that foods make them gag or retch.

crazycatlady5 · 19/03/2018 08:40

@SchoolMoney onions are the worst.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 19/03/2018 08:43

The only veg I hate is courgette and pickled beetroot. Love everything else!

joystir59 · 19/03/2018 08:47

I find it hard to understand why some people really find veg superfluous. My OH only thinks of meat Yorkshire pudding and gravy as a Sunday lunch. I would settle for veg and gravy
