AIBU or are we all going to be trapped in the UK from next March?

So, Ryanair and Thomas Cook are inserting clauses in their booking terms to say that if your flight abroad doesn't go ahead because of Brexit that's your problem. No doubt others will follow. If any deal is ever done, to allow planes to fly, it is bound to be a lot more expensive than it is now.

Is everyone planning many years of UK-only holidaying?

Yorkshirebetty - how do you know no visas will be required? How movement between EU and Britain will be handled has not been agreed yet has it?

ilovesooty · 11/03/2018 15:46

I can't believe people are still using the term "remoaners". Is it supposed to be witty or something?

kerryweaverscrutch · 11/03/2018 15:46

I (and many others) travelled widely in Europe before the EU. No visas were required

That doesn't mean they won't be in the future. There seems to be the idea that brexit means going back to what was there before the EU, but its a different world now and that isn't going to happen.

Overrunwithlego · 11/03/2018 15:46

I think peoole are confusing the fact we might need visas (which will be a pita but not overly problematic) with the fact that airplanes might not be able to fly because at the moment that is tied up in our eu membership. Clearly the airlines think it might be problematic - and I can see why given how badly the Brexit process is being managed. I think something will most likely be sorted but would not be surprised if there is a period of disruption.

ohnomoresnow · 11/03/2018 15:47

As @Yorkshirebetty said, we survived BEFORE we were in the EU and we will survive when we leave. (GOD BLESS THAT DAY!)

The sooner we leave that controlling, restrictive, manipulative bunch of bullies, the better.

How about concrete information from YOU @clarissalarissa to prove all the tripe you are blathering?

Won't have any though will you, as it's all utter hysterical shit.

Is someone paying you to post this? Wink

No-one thinks the word remoaners is witty by the way; it is just incredibly fitting and very accurate,

londonrach · 11/03/2018 15:47

Op...you know people did travel abroad before we were part of the eu. We wont be trapped in britain!

ohnomoresnow · 11/03/2018 15:48

Anyone who thinks travel to Europe will be affected by leaving the EU is utterly deluded, and scaremongering and hysterical, and needs to grow the fuck up!

kerryweaverscrutch · 11/03/2018 15:48

Lots of people saying its all bollocks and hysteria...but they can't seem to tell us what will happen? They don't seem to know any details, just that everything will be fine. It's lovely and optimistic, but lacking on details?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2018 15:49

We may find it much less convenient to hop on to a plane over to mainland Europe and it may become more expensive. Given the ultra tight margins based on high volume that low cost airlines maintain, it seems logical that some flights will be cancelled because they won't be economic to run. I suspect we could lose some of the low cost carriers altogether.

Clarissalarissa · 11/03/2018 15:49

This is from the Daily Telegraph:

Flights between the UK and the European Union will be cancelled for months after Brexit, unless replacements for EU airline agreements are struck before Britain leaves the bloc, Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary told the European Parliament yesterday.

Yep there is the hysteria ^

tillytrotter1 · 11/03/2018 15:50

Looking at some of the posts on here covering many topics would I be right in thinking that the country is becoming abasket case? Is there anything about which you can't suffer 'anxiety'? How about getting on with your lives and taking the attitude of que sera sera?

Roussette · 11/03/2018 15:50

Oh don't be so silly .... are you saying that all flights to the EU from Britain will just errrmmmm stop? Get a grip!

Ryanair will stick anything in their contracts to cover their arses about anything. They're the inventors of the proverbial get out clause.

ohnomoresnow · 11/03/2018 15:51

Exactly @Rousette Utter tripe isn't it?

Roussette · 11/03/2018 15:51

I don't take one bit of notice of anything Michael O'Leary says, and that decision has worked for me in the past.

ohnomoresnow · 11/03/2018 15:51

Makes you wonder why people are so gullible and hysterical.

Quite worrying really that some people believe this utter shite.

ilovesooty · 11/03/2018 15:51

ohnomoresnow you do seem very angry.

The term "remoaners" is unnecessarily rude as far as I'm concerned. It rather smacks of refusing to accept that people who voted differently to you aren't entitled to have a different opinion.

Clarissalarissa · 11/03/2018 15:53

Surprise surprise, but nothing appears to have been done yet to negotiate those agreements. And airlines have to schedule flights a year ahead, apparently. If the agreements have not been entered into by September we are looking at cancellations.

ohnomoresnow · 11/03/2018 15:53

Oh @ilovesooty you do seem very annoyed hun. Calm down.

remoaners is just a very apt term.. Remainers who moan and moan.

kerryweaverscrutch · 11/03/2018 15:54

How about getting on with your lives and taking the attitude of que sera sera?

Because that's a really stupid way to live? Have you all got your heads so firmly buried in the sand that you can't see that Brexit has the potential to change huge parts of your life, and nobody can tell you what is going to happen?

Clarissalarissa · 11/03/2018 15:54

The S will hit the fan at just the right time to destroy the UK summer tourist season. How many tourism businesses will survive that?

Lots of VERY ANGRY remoaners on here.

Calm down. And Chillax huns.

You'll live.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2018 15:55

I think people still underestimate the sheer complexity of negotiations needed on so many fronts all simultaneously.

Even if things ended up being ok long term (there is no evidence to suggest this will be true), it appears to be absolutely impossible to achieve all the trade and travel agreements in time, never mind everything else still to be negotiated. We can't even decide as country what to do about a third runway at Heathrow with years of uhmming and ahhing. What makes people think we can do all of this in time?

ohnomoresnow · 11/03/2018 15:56

@ilovesooty

It rather does does it?

Calm down.
