I think I'm going to leave this thread now, but please see this is the true face of a "progressive" when you disagree with them.

I don't know what your talking about @mapluck I'm just telling my truth as a 29year old black man in the UK, but you keep doing you I'm sure with your level of bitterness you will have a very unhappy life.

Do you live in London? If you were to move to rural UK, do you think that being a young black man would make no difference to the way you were treated?

(where I live, you'd be the only young black man)

Dadtrying · 11/03/2018 17:45

Maybe your right Kala I am from London but that doesn't mean I deserve the abuse mapluck has thrown at me.

PatriarchyPersonified · 11/03/2018 17:47

Love the abuse dadtrying is getting because he hasn't had the 'right' kind of experience of being black.

Women get abuse from other women when they say that sexism doesn't exist. They get called handmaidens.

No one should be abused for their opinions.

It's got to be frustrating when some people believe that they face racism, sexism etc and it's been a real issue for them and then someone else from the same group says that they don't think it's an issue.

Dadtrying · 11/03/2018 17:51

Why are you comparing me to Katie Hopkins ? @mapluck are you ok ? Is everything ok at home ?

Dadtrying · 11/03/2018 17:53

I never once said racism, sexism etc doesn't exist I question the validity of white privilege.

kalapattar · 11/03/2018 17:53

Maybe your right Kala I am from London

Can you imagine how mapluck feels if she has experienced racism and has been held back because of her skin colour - and you are arguing that there is no issue in this country because you haven't experienced it?

That's got to be very frustrating.

kalapattar · 11/03/2018 17:54

I never once said racism, sexism etc doesn't exist I question the validity of white privilege

Surely if racism exists, then people who don't experience it have privilege?

Dadtrying · 11/03/2018 17:54

Again kala never said racism doesn't exist.

PatriarchyPersonified · 11/03/2018 17:54

Kala

Maybe facing people from the same 'group' who don't share their opinion might make them think that their experience or perception might not be as universal as they think?

Just a thought.

Dadtrying · 11/03/2018 17:55

Yes I even accepted people have privilege of all different kinds.

MomtoOneMarvelousBubba · 11/03/2018 17:55

So i guess youre whiteHmm

kalapattar · 11/03/2018 17:56

Maybe facing people from the same 'group' who don't share their opinion might make them think that their experience or perception might not be as universal as they think

Do you think male privilege exists?

Do men benefit from male privilege?

Someone may not even know that they have experienced issues because they don't even know what it's like to be a member of the privileged group.

kalapattar · 11/03/2018 17:57

Yes I even accepted people have privilege of all different kinds

I never once said racism, sexism etc doesn't exist I question the validity of white privilege

Eh? So now you do think white privilege is a valid thing?

Dadtrying · 11/03/2018 18:01

I just don't accept the validity of shaming people for their skin tone.

Dadtrying · 11/03/2018 18:03

They have it in the sense they don't face racism, in the sense I have a privilege as I've never experienced sexism, islamphobia, anti Irish sentiment, anti Semitism etc there's a list of privileges we all have if we going down this road.

Dadtrying · 11/03/2018 18:08

I'm more agreeing that white people are privileged or beneficiaries in the sense they don't experience racism the majority of their life but in that sense I'm a beneficiary of white privilege too then and so our the majority of non white people I know.

kalapattar · 11/03/2018 18:08

I just don't accept the validity of shaming people for their skin tone

I don't feel ashamed for being white. I am aware that being white probably gives me lots of advantages in the UK.

WhalesOfYore · 11/03/2018 18:09

Dadtrying dares to depart from the identity politics groupthink, and gets racially abused by one of the "progressive" thinkers for his troubles. Truly, modern progressives love every kind of diversity - except diversity of opinion.

kalapattar · 11/03/2018 18:10

in the sense I have a privilege as I've never experienced sexism, islamphobia, anti Irish sentiment, anti Semitism etc there's a list of privileges we all have if we going down this road

That's definitely been mentioned on this thread.

Aeroflotgirl · 11/03/2018 18:23

I agree with DAd, he is telling you his experience as a black man, nobody has a right to tell him otherwise, especially if yiu are not in his position.
