To think this is a weird message from colleague?

New colleague sat next to me for about a month (she's been in the company a year but just moved to my department).

She messaged me on Facebook last night and said just letting you know that I was in a car crash last night.

I wasn't at work this week and I won't be next week either so wouldn't have noticed her missing.

I'm not her manager, her absence doesn't need to be reported to me at all.

Obviously I asked how she was but I'm not a close friend of hers. We've never socialised.

She has a boyfriend and lots of family so she's not lonely.

Is that an odd message to send?

It might be because she doesn't want to have to tell you when you're back in, or because you might wonder where she is if she's not there when you are back.

LimonViola · 10/03/2018 22:27

"Today 22:24 RidingWindhorses

I think they're just astonished that anyone can live like that. It seems very sad."

Wouldn't it be dull if we were all the same eh.

Nothing sad about living in the way you want to and feel happiest with. Who gives a fuck whether randomers online do it another way?

GlitterGlassEye · 10/03/2018 22:28

Why the fuck have a Facebook account? Seriously? I don’t have one anymore as of 5 years ago and it is great. It’s not a necessity op. Same goes for you too Frission. I manage fine.

RidingWindhorses · 10/03/2018 22:29

Ah spyhole of course you've thought this through.

FissionChips · 10/03/2018 22:30

Do most door not have a spyhole? Hmm

InsomniacAnonymous · 10/03/2018 22:30

I've never had a door with a spyhole.

GlitterGlassEye · 10/03/2018 22:32

Oh but I do answer the door at unexpected times. Bloody window cleaner needing paid usually, what a massive pain in the arse TO ANSWER THE DOOR FOR 2 MINUTES.

RidingWindhorses · 10/03/2018 22:32

Yeah I remember the poster who couldn't let anyone in her house, not even family as it made her uncomfortable. She tried a relationship but that didn't work out as y'know he kind of needed to come in. She said she was happy but I'm not so sure.

FissionChips · 10/03/2018 22:32

Ok, it probably has some other name, it’s the little whole in a front door that you look through to see who Is on the other side. Perfectly common.

RingtheBells · 10/03/2018 22:33

My mums house had a spyhole, it had a solid front door, our hasn’t because it has a frosted window bit you can see through

RidingWindhorses · 10/03/2018 22:33

Never had a front door with a spyhole. One would be useless on mine as it's glass and people could see me spying through it.

MotherofaSurvivor · 10/03/2018 22:34

After having a search on MN, I suspect we may need to be wary of possible mental illness here re Fission. Let's just drop it yeah?

DalekDalekDalek · 10/03/2018 22:35

I think it's called a peep hole but spy hole is understandable. Most front doors have them don't they?

InsomniacAnonymous · 10/03/2018 22:36

I've only seen spyholes in in hotel room doors, never in the front doors of houses.

OnionKnight · 10/03/2018 22:36

Some of the posters in this thread need medical help.

RidingWindhorses · 10/03/2018 22:37

Yeah you're probably right Mother

InsomniacAnonymous · 10/03/2018 22:37

Whether it's called a spyhole or a peephole or anything else, I've still never had one.

FissionChips · 10/03/2018 22:37

That quite offensive MotherofaSurvivor Hmm

OnionKnight · 10/03/2018 22:37

I've only seen spyholes in in hotel room doors, never in the front doors of houses.

I have a spy hole in my front door as it doesn't have a window at eye height.

FissionChips · 10/03/2018 22:38

FFs, spyhole exist, I’m not going to argue about to it.

DalekDalekDalek · 10/03/2018 22:40

They do exist: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peephole

Weird reaction from you OP! YABU!

I do find the friendship culture nowadays to be very strange! I sometimes go to the pub with colleagues and have , what I consider a great time ! Bump into the lift with the same people whom you spent all night dancing and laughing with , the next morning , and no one bats an eyelid at you ! Hmm

Op- do you tend to have full on conversations with her ?? She's probably confused your daily banter with friendship and assumed that she's compelled to let you know. I'm not sure why you accepted her request on Facebook if you'd find it out weird her messaging you!

I had a colleague , who I've only just started talking to about a month ago ,message me via Facebook to let me know that she's been fired whilst I was off work. I've only had a handful of conversations with her but I thought she might have been looking for support and gave just that ! I didn't find it strange or weird at all!

RingtheBells · 10/03/2018 22:42

Spy holes don’t have a big sign on, they blend in with the door, they are a security feature, I always wondered if I peered though DMs someone might peer back at me

InsomniacAnonymous · 10/03/2018 22:45

I'm not for one second doubting the existence of spyholes, purely saying that I've never had one, and that was only in response to a couple of posts saying "all doors have them don't they?" That's all.

BearFoxBear · 10/03/2018 22:50

This whole thread is weird.

Wtf would you be fb friends with someone if you never wanted any contact with them?!

Why would you block and ignore a colleague's standard message?!

Why would ignore someone at your door?!

Seriously weird.
