To think this is a weird message from colleague?

New colleague sat next to me for about a month (she's been in the company a year but just moved to my department).

She messaged me on Facebook last night and said just letting you know that I was in a car crash last night.

I wasn't at work this week and I won't be next week either so wouldn't have noticed her missing.

I'm not her manager, her absence doesn't need to be reported to me at all.

Obviously I asked how she was but I'm not a close friend of hers. We've never socialised.

She has a boyfriend and lots of family so she's not lonely.

Is that an odd message to send?

Who knew there were so many social misfits fucking weirdos out there? Delete and block. Unsolicited messages.

What sort of lives do you lead??

RidingWindhorses · 10/03/2018 22:08

If I told a new work colleague I'd been in a crash it would be so they would know I wouldn't be in. She's probably forgotten OP won't be there.

PoorYorick · 10/03/2018 22:09

No, I don’t answer the door unless it’s an expected visitor. You can’t tell me that is odd.

How do couriers deliver to you?

How do new neighbours introduce themselves?

How does anyone read your meter?

sonjadog · 10/03/2018 22:09

It´s a sad world where someone who has had an accident and is looking for someone to share it with, it met by blanking and blocking. I guess the milk of human kindness doesn't run so deep...

RidingWindhorses · 10/03/2018 22:10

I wondered the same Yorick.

Is the postman expected or unexpected? I never know what time ours will arrive.

sonjadog · 10/03/2018 22:11

These posters who never answer doors, block anyone they don't know who messages them, etc - how do they ever meet their partners? Surely at one point they were also a stranger...

FissionChips · 10/03/2018 22:13

A courier is an expected visitor, the meter reader waits untill I get sent a letter and I arrange an appointment.

I have aquaintences, if they knock on my door univtited then I don’t answer, perfectly fine I think.

Coconuthusk · 10/03/2018 22:14

Yeah Sonjadog, I wouldn't date someone who randomly knocked on my door! 😂

Intheblackhole · 10/03/2018 22:15

OP it seems mean to call her weird. Even if she was lonely , is that a problem? Some people message profusely when they are stuck at home or something important happens in their lives. Is she ok?

MotherofaSurvivor · 10/03/2018 22:17

Omg so you actually hide from our own acquaintances Fission? 😧

MotherofaSurvivor · 10/03/2018 22:17

*your

flippertygibbett · 10/03/2018 22:19

The simple ask in real life’s ifnthey can contact me on such and such a day or time

But, surely to do this they have to send you some kind of "unsolicited communication" while you're "going about your day"??

A world where we have to make appointments to speak to each FML Confused

AtrociousCircumstance · 10/03/2018 22:20

OP, do you think you might be irritated at her leaning on you a little here, when maybe you battled through the loss of your Mum and your own experience of a car crash with less support than you needed?

Sorry about your Mum Flowers

NotACleverName · 10/03/2018 22:21

No, it's weird.

Feodora · 10/03/2018 22:21

From her injuries she may guess she will not be in work for a while and so she is just politely letting you know you may not see her in work for a while. She may, as others have said, forgot you are off for another week too.

RidingWindhorses · 10/03/2018 22:22

You never know what time couriers are going to come though. Sometimes I think it's postman/courier and actually it's a friend or neighbour or a charity worker!!!!!!

Wwyd Fission slam the door?

Weebo · 10/03/2018 22:23

People seem to have taken your Hermit-Style-Living quite personally, Fission. :o

RidingWindhorses · 10/03/2018 22:24

I think they're just astonished that anyone can live like that. It seems very sad.

Weebo · 10/03/2018 22:24

Of course not Riding.

She would pull up the drawn bridge and release the hounds.

Weebo · 10/03/2018 22:25

Maybe she's happy with it?

RidingWindhorses · 10/03/2018 22:25

She's probably looked out with her binoculars before things got that far.

RidingWindhorses · 10/03/2018 22:26

I do hope so.

FissionChips · 10/03/2018 22:26

I simply peer through the spyhole and walk away of it isn’t the postman or another expected person . What on earth is wrong with that?

Weebo · 10/03/2018 22:26

Drawbridge* Whoops.

FissionChips · 10/03/2018 22:27

I’m not asking anyone else to live my life !
