IWD today, obvs, so one guy on our team work messaging chat (about 20 people on there) shared this pic. What banter eh.

I replied saying ‘sorry I don’t get it Confused - can you explain the joke’, and he’s said that he will explain to me tomorrow at work, the delight that he is.

Cue others on the chat offering to book a meeting room, film it, send a company wide invite etc so we can all witness his explanation.

I feel like just watching him squirm in front of the whole team won’t be enough, so I wanted to plan a line of questioning or whatnot that would maximise the enjoyment for all involved, except for him, and not make me look like a humourless fun sponge in the process.

Ideas?

So, while the males in my family are happy to work for women, I am not.

Which leads to my personal, but heartfelt opinion that we should not judge on a gender/race basis, but as individuals.

Except if they’re women, in which case you won’t work for them.

If we use our voice to challenge even minor sexism Abbylee, how could we become that thing we abhor? What thing is that?

Badbilly · 10/03/2018 18:00

I don’t understand your point here, sorry. It’s an absolute fact that women are worse off than men. It’s an absolute fact that people who are not white are worse off that people who are white. I’ve already said I don’t agree with the word ‘chav’ and explained why.

Sorry, I didn't realise it was top trumps discrimination.

I've seen so much discrimination on this thread, and most of it aimed at women by women.

It's not his grammar, it's been all over Facebook. I thought it was slightly funny and I'm a woman who only irons my own stuff.

Fixed that for you.

I don't want to come across all "what about the..." but white lower class males AND females are highly discriminated against and sneered at and called things like "chavs". This is often based on their perceived intelligence.

‘Top trumps discrimination’? What? You asked me a question and I responded. Unless your point is ‘men and women are equally discriminated against’, which is wrong, I’m struggling to see your arguement.

If your arguement is ‘we should challenge all forms of discrimination’ then surely you’ll support the OP in taking action against her sexist work colleague.

You didn’t fix anything by changing ‘sexism’ to ‘discrimination’ - the point still stands. What do we lose by challenging sexism? What do we lose by challenging discrimination?

You're a woman and you found it funny?! Unintelligent chav.

I will type very slowly, as you obviously have trouble comprehending my basic point, which is quite simple, which and is not "men and women are equally discriminated against"-that's either a willful misunderstanding or you need education and are lacking intelligence to understand my basic point (see what I did there?)

I will enumerate to make it even simpler.

  1. OP posts very mildly sexist post and seeks revenge on poster.
  1. Some posters say "I found it funny", and have a different viewpoint to the OP.
  1. Posters who think its sexist then decide to berate the posters who found it funny, by saying they obviously don't understand, need educating, and one poster even called them "chavs". The overall intelligence of the posters was questioned.
  1. I pointed out that calling someone a "chav", and saying they are too unintelligent to understand the point is in itself showing a great big dollop of discrimination.

Hence my irony post (which I still maintain went over your head).

Understand now? (blimey, this is like pulling teeth). The point is hardly difficult to understand, but you keep going off at tangents.

Keep it to a simple yes/no if you like :

Q: Do you understand the irony of using discrimination against posters who disagree with you when the subject of the thread is discrimination.

A: ...

Pumperthepumper · 11/03/2018 21:23

Yes.

I already answered your question on irony. I already said I didn’t agree with ‘chav’. I’m not sure what else you’re after, you seem to be looking for an argument here and I’m not really sure what to tell you...?

Just a quick reminder BadBilly, it wasn’t me who said other posters were unintelligent, and I’ve already answered your question on why they might (note: might) have thought that. I already said: I can’t speak for that poster.

If the joke isn’t sexist, if it isn’t poking fun at women on IWD, then why is it funny? What’s the joke?

I definitely do have trouble understanding your basic point but I don’t think it’s the speed at which you’re typing. I think it’s because you’re really awful at making yourself understood, because you’re so desperate for an argument that you’re struggling to pick an angle. Thats a shame for you.

But since you’re so worried about discrimination, you’ll definitely be supporting the OP in pulling up her sexist colleague, won’t you?
