Help me school this prat at work

IWD today, obvs, so one guy on our team work messaging chat (about 20 people on there) shared this pic. What banter eh.

I replied saying ‘sorry I don’t get it Confused - can you explain the joke’, and he’s said that he will explain to me tomorrow at work, the delight that he is.

Cue others on the chat offering to book a meeting room, film it, send a company wide invite etc so we can all witness his explanation.

I feel like just watching him squirm in front of the whole team won’t be enough, so I wanted to plan a line of questioning or whatnot that would maximise the enjoyment for all involved, except for him, and not make me look like a humourless fun sponge in the process.

Ideas?

It's about as funny as a maggot sandwich. Circulating that kind of shit at work is so unprofessional.

RedHelenB · 08/03/2018 20:38

I thought so too. Maybe if he was a bit of a knob though in general I'd have found it less amusing.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 08/03/2018 20:38

Oh I laughed out loud at that Grin

It’s fairly obvious you get the joke, so I think you’re the one people will be rolling their eyes at.

You have no right to “make” him do anything; it is not your place to “school” him or try lecture him.

savingmysanity · 08/03/2018 20:38

please just repeat "I'm sorry, I still don't understand" until his head explodes

Squishysquirmy · 08/03/2018 20:39

I agree with you about not involving hr, btw. That would be counter-productive. You don't change perceptions by getting people disciplined for mild jokes (and it was mild - would be different if it was a rape joke or something), that just makes them keep quiet about their opinions whilst reinforcing their dumb stereotypes.

Far better to expose the flaws in their thinking through mild taking of the piss. Proves you are funnier than him as well.

expatinscotland · 08/03/2018 20:40

Yeah, lighten up and accept sexist jokes because they're just banter, people of colour used to be told this about golliwogs and other shite like that, now that type of behaviour is, quite rightly, unacceptable. Make sexism so, too.

SimplyJaded · 08/03/2018 20:41

I saw this on fb earlier and laughed.

Sorry you are coming across as a humourless fun sponge IMO.

LavenderDoll · 08/03/2018 20:41

But you do get it? You don't like it but you get it.
No it's not funny not sure it's your place to school him though

ReanimatedSGB · 08/03/2018 20:41

Make him write 'You Could HAVE ironed it' 100 times.

You are right to make a joke of this rather than run crying to HR.It's a silly joke, and should be responded to in kind, rather than add fuel to the idea that feminists are miserable funsponges always looking to be offended by something.

Whatshallidonowpeople · 08/03/2018 20:42

Really? Lighten up........ I thought it was quite funny!

It's a symptom of what men really think of women. If you think it's acceptable then you can't be a very senior in a company.

RoseWhiteTips · 08/03/2018 20:43

It IS funny but what is more funny is his pitiful grammar. Make sure you use your red pen when you correct it! Lol

DownstairsMixUp · 08/03/2018 20:43

It's not funny. Why can't men let us have one day? My Facebook is full of men ruining comment sections on great articles about women. Fucking idiots

FallenforTom · 08/03/2018 20:44

I think it's taking the piss out of people that would really think that way so I find it funny.

I didn't even realise it was IWD till my male colleague came in and said 'as it's IWD and I'm feeling generous, let me know if there's anything you need explaining today'.

Everyone got the joke. Everyone laughed.

RoseWhiteTips · 08/03/2018 20:45

Not sure it’s you place to “school him”? Huh?

Why so serious and dull?🙄

RoseWhiteTips · 08/03/2018 20:46

...your place

RoseWhiteTips · 08/03/2018 20:47

When is International Men’s Day? Fair is fair.

Devonishome1 · 08/03/2018 20:47

Whoops...I thought it was funny!

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 08/03/2018 20:47

It depends if you find sexism funny doesn't it. Is racism chuckle worthy as well? He's a knob.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 08/03/2018 20:48

@ThePinkOcelot Of course the joke is that a woman should have ironed it given that it's a sign about International Women's Day and household chores are stereotypically a woman's job.

I'm not offended by it, it's just a lame joke.

NewYearNewMe18 · 08/03/2018 20:49

When is International Men’s Day? Fair is fair.

Its in November

I have to say I've seen the circulating today and I laughed out loud.

Homebird8 · 08/03/2018 20:49

You could HAVE ironed it? Thank you. Smile

FullMetalRabbit · 08/03/2018 20:50

When is International Men’s Day? Fair is fair

every day

RadioGaGoo · 08/03/2018 20:51

Yeah, Whattodoin2017, you would like to think that people would be rolling their eyes at the OP, but it's clear that the collegues are up for the 'schooling'. Nice try though.

RoseWhiteTips · 08/03/2018 20:51

Rubbish. Such a predictable response.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 08/03/2018 20:52

Reporting it is going overboard, although it’s not acceptable. Why do some people on MN want to report everything to everyone?
