To tell friend/bride her choice in shoes is terrible

TheWonderfulCat · 08/03/2018 04:00

So my friend is getting married in 6 months and has just told us bridesmaids (im the MOH) that she wants us to wear converse shoes with our lovely dresses.

The shoes will look terrible with the dresses and Im dreading wearing them.

Should I say anything? And if so, what?
Or should I just suck it up?

I can't even get converse on my feet. Gosh, it's almost like everyone is made differently, isn't it?

Trinity66 · 08/03/2018 11:12

It would be rude of you to say something imo, it's her wedding her choice

Trinity66 · 08/03/2018 11:12

I've never worn Converse but I always assumed they were popular as they were so comfy. I'm amazed to find out that they are not!

I think they're comfy.....a lot more comfy than heels that's for sure

Why is it rude when it's the OP's money?

She has to buy her own shows as a Bridesmaid? That's odd, the bride usually kits out the bridesmaids, I must have missed that post

mydietstartsmonday · 08/03/2018 12:14

I think it is absolutely outrageous that a bride dictates this level of detail. If se was a true friend she would ask you all first. I am not sure why being a bride allows you to not take into account everyone else's feelings. Bridezilla behavior.

TinyTickler · 08/03/2018 12:24

I hate things like this, I get that its not your day but she is making you look shit in a bid to be quirky. I cannot imagine that she'll look back at the photos in 20 years and think it was a good idea.

iwanttoeatallthecarbs · 08/03/2018 12:24

The converse I have are leather and quite comfortable. Wouldn't want to wear them at a wedding though. Would just feel wrong.

APigInAWig · 08/03/2018 12:28

I have a pair of size 5.5 white high too converse I will send to you if you want. They could do with going in the washing machine but they are free

YANBU. Converse are the ugliest shoes I've ever seen! Like clown shoes. They look ridiculous on adults. Worn with a formal dress would be comical in a pantomime sort of way!

As you have to pay for them I'd refuse and say you'll get something you can use later.

Trinity66 · 08/03/2018 12:43

*Why is rude to say “Im sorry but I cannot wear Converse as they are too narrow and hurt my feet?

The bride didn’t think it was rude and has told OP it doesn’t have tobe Converse after all*

Well I only read the Original post before I replied and going by that she just didn't like the shoes and in that case yes It's rude imo. Having discovered that she had to actually buy the shoes herself and apparently hurt her feet I've changed my mind.

LeighaJ · 08/03/2018 12:45

Converse with guessing formal dresses...how tacky. 😞

myusernamewastakenbyme · 08/03/2018 12:45

Id hate this too....i wouldnt feel dressed up unless i was in heels.....a girl i was at college with wore trainers with her wedding dress....it looked ridiculous.

daysofpearlyspencer · 08/03/2018 12:49

A freind years ago was very 'punky' and boho, I was disappointed when she came down the aisle in a traditional dress - then realised that she had her custom dyed DM's on, it was brilliant. So her.

That sounds really cool. I actually love the converse with dresses look, my daughter always does that

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 08/03/2018 12:50

Short bridesmaid dresses and converse? Is she deliberately trying to make you all look dreadful so she stands out? Grin

TheLambshankRedemption · 08/03/2018 12:57

Converse were responsible for my plantar fasciitis. They look like a comfy shoe but they cripple me if I spend a day in them so if you are prone, it is worth thinking about that beforehand. I also struggled to find orthopaedic inserts that would fit in them along with my foot (I needed more support than just an insole type which may be OK).

Mine went to the charity shop.

hellsbellsmelons · 08/03/2018 12:59

These are GORGEOUS!
LOL!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 08/03/2018 12:59

They're hideously uncomfy as well as frumpy.

Seafoodeatit · 08/03/2018 13:00

YANBU but prepare for the bride to think otherwise. I've known a few people that got married in them, seemed more like a sticking it the ideals of a traditional wedding then a comfort choice. I'm another finds them painful after half an hour or so, no good for flat & wide hobbit feet

greendale17 · 08/03/2018 13:04

I hate Converse as well. They look alright but are horribly uncomfortable.

^This.

LLO7 · 08/03/2018 13:05

We wore 'blinged up' converse for my sisters wedding. I hated them but I didn't say a word because my sister loved them and that's what mattered! It's one day, just suck it up, it's not worth hurting/upsetting her or stressing her out over it!

Bridechilla · 08/03/2018 13:09

YABU. In your opinion they're terrible.

There's nothing wrong with changing shoes at the reception, it's the equivalent of back up flats for heels.

Madmarchpear · 08/03/2018 13:12

At best she's trying to project a zany personality and at worst it's an attempt to frump you all up so she looks better. It's grim and a bit naff but can't be avoided.
