Both high end and small/ local and Why?

I'll start- number one at the Balmoral in Edinburgh. Treated ourselves due to celebrating new house and job and it was simply amazing. We did the taster menu and it was beautiful from start to finish, tried loads of food I wouldn't normally try and the service was top notch (was expensive!). Small and local to me, Bistro Franc in Liverpool, does a Sunday wine and dine offer and every time we've been is spot on in terms of the food and really good value. Me and DP are big foodies and usually have a good read of TripAdvisor before we go.

L’Enclume in Cumbria and Martin Wishart (a close second) a close second.

We at a The Sampling (in the Lakes) recently and it was ok, but not great. It has recently lost it star though.

Brainwashed · 27/02/2018 20:50

Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles for our silver wedding anniversary.

Pimmsypimms · 27/02/2018 20:51

Agree with HamishBamish, L’Enclume is absolutely amazing 😍

onlyconnect · 27/02/2018 20:52

Nathan Outlaw's seafood in Rock is the best high end food I've had. It's now moved to Port Isaac.
Also Tom Aitken's in Chelsea was pretty amazing about ten years ago but I think it's gone now.

RazzleDazzle3 · 27/02/2018 20:53

Dinner by Heston at mandarin oriental. Good fun food, but had brilliant company. Really good memories.

FleetwoodSmack · 27/02/2018 20:56

Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons in Oxfordshire at the expensive gastronomy end of things. On a less deluxe level, the Gurnard’s Head pub near Zennor in Cornwall, Prashad in Bradford, The Sportsman in Whitstable, and Bocca di Lupo in Soho is reliably excellent. We’re vegetarian.

ImListening · 27/02/2018 20:56

Le Manoir & waterside inn.

Worst - the fat duck

Rosieposy4 · 27/02/2018 20:56

La Gavroche, but am going back 30 years, totally amazing meal

lastqueenofscotland · 27/02/2018 21:00

Chez Bruce
Small Michelin starred spot in south west London totally off the tourist track and insanely good value.

Henrysmycat · 27/02/2018 21:01

Noooo! Loved the Fat Duck, it was 2007 and his menu was a complete mindfuck. Le manoir this summer was terrible. Tired and the staff didn’t know half of the food, they were serving. Beautiful place tho.
I loved Heston’s pub, Hind’s Head and a healthy cafe in Surrey, Elaine’s or Elanes.

WTFIsThisVirus · 27/02/2018 21:04

Rules, in London. It's the oldest restaurant in London. Amazing, classic British cooking.

peepholepringle · 27/02/2018 21:04

The Waterside Inn is hands down the best place I've ever eaten. Everything was just amazing.

alltalknobaby · 27/02/2018 21:06

Le Manoir 😋

user1486076969 · 27/02/2018 21:06

The Waterside Inn

Enuffsenuffsenuff · 27/02/2018 21:07

Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles or the Three Chimneys on Skye

Pumperthepumper · 27/02/2018 21:08

Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles too! Desperate to go back.

GemmaB78 · 27/02/2018 21:08

Gidleigh Park in Dartmouth when Michael Caines was the Head Chef (2014) . The tasting menu (with matched wine) was phenomenal.

SharkSave · 27/02/2018 21:08

Paris House in Woburn. Tasting menu with wine pairings. Out of this world.

Smaller would be St Helena in Bedford. Lovely memories of my first 'posh' restaurant.

Hand and flowers was delicious too, great pub food

Rosieandtwinkle · 27/02/2018 21:08

Morston Hall in North Norfolk 😊

GemmaB78 · 27/02/2018 21:09

Dartmoor, not Dartmouth

SharkSave · 27/02/2018 21:10

Oh and Petrus in London. £35 cheap lunch menu was excellent value, way underpriced!

JonSnowsCloak · 27/02/2018 21:10

The menu at the Waterside looks divine - may have to have a trip down South! There's not many Michelin places near to us but tried the Chester Grosvenor- really really good but didn't quite match up to the Balmoral. DP has a big birthday soon so we're trying out Moor Hall which has just got it's first star- hoping it's good!

An Indian restaurant in Southampton, the chef was a regional competition winner and it was easily the best I had in the UK. Unfortunately it was around 10 years ago so don't have a clue what it was called..

readyforapummelling · 27/02/2018 21:12

Luke's Eating House in Chester.

Best Tomahawk steak EVER!!!

Pikehau · 27/02/2018 21:13

French Laundry in Napa valley in 2009. When it was about number 5 in the world.

Love chez Bruce - used to be walking distance to me.
